Fresh pan dulce is rare out here but their conchas still hit, soft and warm, no cap. Yeah they're cash only, but that's part of the aura for me. this is my favorite Mexican bakery to go to. They make their cookies and pastries fresh daily at 5 PM. Last year for my birthday I pre-ordered a kind of cookie that they don't usually make and she made them on the spot who was able to pick up the next day? They were super yummy. Their service is always super sweet. the ambience of the place is a little small, it is really just a stop and go. You don't eat and stay, but that doesn't change the quality of the pastries! Only to go-no tables/chairs to eat in. First time here but definitely not last. Since I came late, they were out of almost everything except for the cookies and Rosca de Reyes. The Rosca de reyes was not on my list but since they were out of conchas, I opted to get one. So glad I did, the rosca was warm, moist and delicious. My experience at la mejor bakery was not so mejor! I've never felt so embarrassed and overwhelmed. Customer service was 0/10! Which heads up ruins your business even if the product is good.... On my break at work I saw a tik tok on this bakery so without hesitation after work I headed over there (I wish the tik tok mentioned cash only). Picking out my (3) breads I overheard a customer ask if they accept Apple Pay. The lady said cash only and he walked out. I then froze because I was unsure if I was even carrying cash! I told the lady kindly and in panic that I would be back to see if I had cash. 10 minutes later.... I came up on $1.75 quarters (I'm thinking it's enough for at least ONE bread) I didn't want to leave empty handed!! In excitement I said "look I found something for a bread" in unfriendly tone she proceeded to say it's $2. At that point if I was the worker owner or not, I would've accepted the $1.75. It's courtesy for a customer who desperately was willing to find form of payment and was short ¢.25!!! Yet.... I was so determined to find ¢.25! I spent another 10-12 min praying to find it and sure enough under my seat I found change. Sweating and overwhelmed I give the cranky lady her ¢.25 She pulls out the bread of my choice of the 3 and hands it over...NO THANK YOU NO HAVE A GOOD DAY! GUUUURL BE GRATEFUL I FOUND THE $. Working in customer service for 6+ years I would've handled this so much different. I probably would've gave the customer all 3 bread after all that struggle. Plus I wonder if she would've had to throw them away since they already were touched and placed into a bag?? But either way I'm sure they throw away bread at the end of the day. I've been going to La Mejor for about a year now. I usually pop in for a few pieces of pan frances and pan dulce and take off. Recently, I read their yelp review and noticed several people said positive things about the tres leches cake. Being a curious person and my birthday coming up I decided to give it a try. It was really good. Bonus points: it was very reasonably priced at $22 for a cake that could easily feed 5-10 people. Last year I yelped roscas on kings day and I got lucky that they had one so I rushed over and picked one up for my parents. The fact that I live basically next door to this place is DANGEROUS. The prices, the quality, the friendly employees- amazing. Came in while getting food from next door, I'm always happy to buy from family owned businesses AND I wanted some cookies. I was greeted by the cashier and asked about a few pastries, there were handwritten labels for what were in the cases, but it was just a list at the top of it and no distinction of what pastry was which. In the end I grabbed a couple peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip cookies. The peanut butter one had no peanut butter taste and was very hard, it had the texture of a stale polvoron and tasted like a sugar cookie, they had to be at least a few days old... So no thanks, not again. The chocolate chip cookie tasted and felt a bit less stale, the cookie itself wasn't terribly sweet, and the chocolate chunks added a bit of moisture and sweetness, although it seemed like the whole product was depending on the chocolate to do anything for it. The lady who was working was nice enough, but chatted very very casually, like I was familiar with her, the subject of small talk that she decided to share was me was A BEHEADING VIDEO that she was on her Facebook, and not only did she talk to me about it, she tried to show it to me!!! NOT something you should share with a new customer, and you definitely shouldn't yell to your buddy next door to come in and watch the video while I'm trying to buy my food... That all in itself made me want to not buy anything and just walk out. No thank you, never again. read more
