What a gem. A vegan and gluten free gem. So many delicious baked options you will want to have one of everything. My good friends recommended this place and I needed some dessert for a gathering later - all vegan folk! They have a ton - conchas, turnovers, danishes, muffins, cookies, etc etc. I got a couple of items, a vegan chocolate babka roll, and an apple tart. Affordable for a treat and the service was helpful when my brain exploded - the bakers in the back gave me a warm greeting too! I saw they have tamales, so I got one of each to share: beans with green sauce, beans with red sauce, vegan cheese with jalapeños, and jackfruit with red sauce. Tiramisu was not good. It tastes like artificial pecan flavor. It's nothing like Tiramisu.The cookies were not good. They were gluten free. The cookie was dense and heavy. The flavor was not recognizable.I've been gluten free for many years and I threw these in the trash. I also tried the apple pie. The filling was already sweet .The thick sugar on top was excessive. I never should have gone here! I think to myself, yet my regrets are fleeting as I bite into the crisp flakey crust of the vegan gluten free guava (MF'ING GUAVA!!!) empanada. The crust juxtaposed a beautiful garnet colored smooth perfectly sweetened and flavored jelly of guava. These never make it home and to say I'm addicted is an understatement! The first step is to admit you have a problem, and each time I enter this place my spending here has only increased! My addiction started innocently enough as I drove by this place countless times. Then it escalated to well let's try one of their treats on my first encounter and I ended up buying two things the cornerstone culprit of my addiction the gf guava empanada and a concha. The next visit 2 gf guava empanadas and 2 of the savory empanadas! Now the third visit another gf guava empanada, a jackfruit tamale, and a slice of the gf gransito tres leches cake as I'm now plotting a birthday cake! I am in tears I can't stop and I'm weeping with joy at my what now seems weekly habit of acquiring a gf guava empanadas at one of the best brick and mortar vegan bakeries! The gentleman running the front is great with answering my questions and there's way too much to try out here as they have a pillowy soft brioche bread )that I'm avoiding eye contact with) and even challah bread loafs! Don't let the small parking lot or slightly older, nondescript exterior of the building convince you that the desserts are anything short of indulgent and high quality, though. This shop has no frills, so the baked goods truly speak for themselves. They have everything from conchas to tiramisu. We have ordered a few cakes, which were all so flavorful and aesthetically pleasing. I have had this on my list of places to try for a long time, but only just got the opportunity to stop by. Being plant-based and finding fully vegan food isn't too difficult in LA, but vegan bakeries aren't as common, so I'm glad I found Toluca Bakery, which is entirely vegan. An adorable older couple bake and sell everything. It's worth noting that while I was trying to narrow down which items I wanted to try, a few different customers came in and all of them voluntarily (and very enthusiastically, I might add) voiced their opinions about the food-I don't necessarily need anyone to sell me on baked goods (my headstone might read "never turned down the opportunity to enjoy good food" haha), but it was obvious that they have a happy customer base with full bellies:) I've now joined the ranks! I didn't realize that the woman who baked everything is a native Spanish speaker until a customer I was talking to about the empanadas and conchitas started talking to the baker (and owner of the bakery?) in Spanish. It was then that I realized why they had so many Latin-American options. They also have a large selection of gluten-free options. If you are gluten-free, they keep those in separate spaces which, in my opinion, is how that should be handled. If you have a true allergy, you may want to inquire about how they prepare those options. My guess is that they understand and cater to gluten allergy/sensitive customers simply based on the fact that they are in their own cases. They have a huge assortment of options. Some of these include: tiramisu, empanadas, croissants, danishes, conchitas, cupcakes, cheesecakes, muffins, and so many others. I'd be shocked to find anyone who would have trouble finding something they liked due to the incredible variety of options. I tried the tiramisu, and compared to standard non-vegan tiramisu I'd had before I was plant-based, personally think it is as good as some of the best I've had. It was rich, creamy, densely flavorful.... I'm so full but if I'd gotten two I'd be greedily eating that one too! I also bought what I think is an apple cheesecake..? I can't remember-I had a bit of "decision paralysis" and asked about so many things but I think that's what this is. It is (or, was, rather-before I gobbled it down) in a pie shape, about 4" in diameter, with the cutest classic crust... It's so good I wish I could use expletives right now. Five stars. Creamy cheesecake with a robust apple flavor, decadent and rich with a flaky crust, topped with thinly sliced and slightly crunchy apple slices, and sprinkled with cinnamon... oh man I might need to change into baggy sweatpants today. Can someone come take my keys away from me so I don't drive back over there??? The other three items I chose to try today (try not to judge, I'm not particularly skilled at choosing only one item when there are so many delicious options)- a cinnamon roll, a croissant, and a vanilla cupcake. The only item I would give three out of five stars to is the croissant, because it is more "bready" and heavy, and not as flaky as I prefer. The only other fully vegan bakery I have been to in this area is Chaumont vegan bakery, which has the best vegan croissants I've had and are hard to beat. That being said, I love the cinnamon roll despite the fact that it had raisins and I don't personally like that in mine. The cinnamon roll was soft and flaky but a little too dense for me-Therefore, I would give that one four out of five stars. The cupcake was dense in a good way, but fluffy and perfectly moist (sorry to those who don't like that word)-It was fantastic. I personally no longer go to businesses that are only "vegan friendly," due to the fact that those spaces do not always fully understand what plant-based means, and sometimes include items/ingredients that are not plant-based or prep on the same surface (which can leave odors or flavors from meats/dairy). This is definitely a "hole in the wall" type of small business. I am a big proponent of supporting small businesses and love these types of businesses since they sometimes are better than their "fancier" counterparts. In my personal opinion, I am giving this business five stars, based on the customer service, large selection, and the fact that three out of the five items I chose exceeded my expectations. I also really enjoyed chatting with their customers and the lovely bakers. This is one of those places that I'm almost angry I found-How am I supposed to maintain any semblance of a good figure with places like this???? I'll absolutely return for more:) read more

Got to different fruit jam cookies, tiramisu, coco lèche, Nepolian. Fruit jammed cookies (too soft) I was expecting a butter cookie consistency but what I got seem like stale butter cookies-soft, the jam was kinda tasteless (neither sweet nor fruity) and gummy. All the cake goods were stale-they all smell like a fridge and do not have their own flavors. Very disappointed. The nepolians pastries were chewy and didn't have the crunch you'd expect. The cream was bland and has fridge smell rather than caramel/vanilla. The same with the tiramisu. You can get a faint coffee flavors but other than that it was kinda grainy and smelled like the stale fridge bc it's been sitting there since for too long. Unfortunately we got 3 of those and they didn't taste that good. All in all we weren't impressed. read more

What a treat for Toluca Lake and the surrounding valley! Toluca Bakery has an enormous variety of vegan sweets, treats, and even offers savory and gluten free options. Every time I go in, they have something new. I love that you can simply walk in and buy cake and pie slices, conchas, cookies, croissants and other pastries in the window. But the coolest thing is that there are so many big cookie boxes (gluten free too) available to take (like any local bakery or grocery store bakery) to bring to a dinner party, work, etc. I highly recommend their cakes. They are fluffy dreams, particularly the tiramisu and tres leches. The guava danish also makes my top list, there's even vegan cheese inside! The hours are perfect for grabbing things before and after work. And I believe they just need a two-days heads up for cake and custom orders. This is a staple! read more

Was driving by and saw the sign so we decided to stop by. At first we thought it was closed cuz the shades were down and you couldn't see in (the sun!). But we opened the door and WHOA! You have got to be kidding me. This completely vegan bakery has been around since 2019, and I've only just NOW heard of it? What have I even been doing the last few years? My wife found Toluca Bakery on IG and wanted to take a little field trip. A 20 minute drive from Pasadena, not bad, going just for a cookie or two. Do you know what we actually left with? Danish, coffee cake, cookies, empanadas, tamales, a cupcake, and a few other sweet treats I don't even know the name of. We just kept ordering, the cases and shelves beaming their hypnotic deliciousness vibes into our brains. At one point I just looked at my wife like, "We have to stop. There's no way we can eat all this..." So, we didn't get around to the conchas, muffins, or turnovers. We declined the cakes, fruit tarts, and breads. We looked away from the cheesecakes, puerquitos, and pies. A couple more visits should do the trick, though. If you partake in the savory, ask for the hot sauce along with the empanadas and tamales. It's flavor packed with just a little heat. I think the jalapeño and cheese empanada was my favorite, and the hot sauce bumped it up to the next level. What an absolute gem. Toluca doesn't sell in stores, so you're going to have to get your ass over here. This is a no-frills spot. A big bakery with some cases in the front, but do you really need more? When the product is top-notch, bougie art or house plants everywhere are unnecessary. The woman who helped us was awesome, very knowledgeable about ingredients, giving us flawless recommendations left and right. And the prices are more than fair. Some places I'll drop nearly $10 for a single vegan pastry, but we left here with a pile of goodies, for like $45. Hot damn. Matter of fact, I just polished off some apple and cheese stuffed coffee cake and half a raspberry danish ten minutes ago with my morning latte. Absolutely sublime.
