I went to La Mesa for lunch today, I ordered the chicken quesadilla-the appetizer-and I found a large bone in my quesadilla. It was as big as the prongs on the fork, so not a small piece. It completely ruined my appetite and I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. read more

Came in on a Monday to enjoy some drinks and conversation with friends, sat on the patio. Beautiful weather was calling us. Chips and salsa are great. The ceviche was amazing as an appetizer. I ordered the mango fish, it was good, the mango salsa tasted great, the veggies were a little done. The fajita taco salad was very good, plenty of meat very filling. No one had any complaints. I went there this past Sunday with family for dinner. It was our first visit and I was really impressed with the service. Endless chips and fresh salsa and refills on drinks. Was driving around town checking out the area and noticed this place had a packed parking lot. Decided to try it out. Sat at the bar and I didn't see a bartender for ten mins. After finally being acknowledged, I ordered a frozen strawberry and mango margarita. Pretty solid drink. Had to ask for chips and salsa. They are complimentary. Ordered the carne asada steak burrito. It was fantastic. 1 drink and burrito cost me 22 bucks. Not a bad experience after the rocky start. read more

But after I found someone, service was pretty fast. I ordered the queso because an acquaintance said it's the best in town. It was really good and so was the salsa. Salsa didn't taste homemade but it was still good. I ordered the shrimp chimichanga. I usually get a quesadilla at all Mexican restaurants but decided to go out on a limb and try something knew. Totally tasted like a quesadilla. Lol. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. The fajita vegetable mix was seasoned very well. Yum yum yum. NOW for the show stopper. The Rice and beans OMG!!!! So good. I visit every other week or so. My son usually gets the shredded chicken on the nachos and saves the rest for the following day. I usually get the Pollo Bandito which is their chicken and rice with cheese sauce. The service is always quick, and they have more than enough servers to shuttle food and margaritas. So we didn't know what to expect of the food based on the ratings but we actually really liked it! The enchiladas were really good and the drinks were good as well. The service was hit or miss depending on the two servers waiting on us so we wound up with 8 waters for 4 of us and some minor mix-ups in ordering. Off work early and headed in for a late lunch. Place was not busy at all, but took us and the folks entering behind us awhile to be seated. After being seated the service was quick and friendly. Salsa had a sweet taste that neither of us cared for. We ordered queso, which always excites me, but it was not exciting at all. Our entrees we dull and bland, even guacamole fell into the same category. Sadly, there was nothing great about our meals. The taco was subpar at best, the burrito and enchilada were dry tortillas with just ground beef in them and queso sauce on top. First off queso sauce on all that? This isn't snack shack nachos lol! The enchilada if you can call it that was just a smaller burrito if you can even call it a burrito! Service was terrible, waiter was rushing us when there were like 3 other people in the restaurant. I know it is just after reopening but when you say the meal will be ready in 35 minutes and you show up 45 minutes later and the meal hasn't even been given to the the kitchen I would say bad service. Nice people, good food but need to get their act together. I finally got my meal 70 minutes after calling it in. I would also suggest have a English speaking employees at the register. I had a strawberry margarita and some queso to start. The queso was so underwhelming that i added salsa to it just for some flavor, but all that did was water it down. As for the margarita, all i could taste was flavoring syrup. For my entree i got the carne asada which came out dry and flavorless-- two things carne asada should never be. My date barely even touched his food as well... A pretty bland meal that came out to be almost 60 bucks. I will say our server was sweet and that is the only reason i didn't give 2 stars. read more
