A downtown staple in Leavenworth this place has been around for many years. I went to meet a friend for lunch. Upon entering we were cheerfully greeted by the hostess. Our server was prompt to the table to take our drink order.We both ordered the chicken fajita taco salad. The food was delivered quickly. The salad comes in an edible bowl. I was disappointed that there was very little chicken in it. The bottom was filled with refried beans, sautéed onions and peppers, shredded lettuce ( though not plentiful) and sour cream on top. It was very soggy on the bottom. Not extremely appetizing. After our food was delivered our server never came back to check on us. We had to flag her down to ask for water refills. Tampico's is a great gem in the middle of downtown Leavenworth. After a long trip the hotel staff recommended Tampico's across the street. It has a nice Mexican vibe and decor, the staff and I presume either the owner or manager was working the register and was very inviting. I made it just before the dinner crowd (Saturday) started to pour in ... a popular place for small groups and families from what I could see. As soon as I was seated someone came by with chips and salsa. The chips were warm, crisp and light; the salsa was good and not overly spicy. I ended up having the 2 for 1 margarita special and a chuiken dish for dinner. The chicken was freshly cooked, moist and flavorful. One of the better Mexican dinners I have had in the past year. I would absolutely recommend this place, since I have a week here for work I will be back to try another dish and see if the high quality is standard. We lived in Leavenworth about five years ago and always really enjoyed Tampico. Upon returning this evening, I was so happy to see, not much has changed! The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Everyone was hustling as it was a busy Saturday evening. The food is always freshly prepared, and I appreciate that it is not incredibly salty. I had the fajita nachos with as side of toppings, the portions are always, very generous, and it came out piping hot. Plus, you can't beat two for one margaritas for nine dollars! I hadn't been here in a long time because of a previous bad experience. Tonight I attended a friend's birthday party held here and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the chicken chimichanga, it was delicious. Portion was large so I took half of it home for lunch tomorrow. The salsa was tasty and the chips were fresh. Our waitress was a delight. First time in Leavenworth so I had to try this place per my parents recommendation. We started out with chips, guacamole and queso. I'm not a big fan of their queso but to be fair I like espinaca wayyy more as I feel it has more flavor. Guacamole was good which says a lot coming from me because I honestly don't like a lot of restaurants guac. They had 2 for 1 margaritas which were good. Decent size too! Definitely wouldn't have two of them and drive! I got the vegetarian quesadilla it was really good! Lots of fresh vegetables I thought it was a bit odd they didn't cut it but not the end of the world. My sister got the vegetarian combo with tostada and a bean burrito I believe? The salsa also seemed like it was made in house but could use a bit more heat for my taste. Service was incredibly prompt and very friendly. I never had to ask but didn't feel suffocated. There were some perks such as the two for the price of one house margarita's and endless chips and salsa, but the food ordered was sadly average if not a bit under par for us. Our go-to Mexican restaurant in the Leavenworth area. Service is friendly and food always comes out fast. Chips and salsa are good; the chips are served warm and salsa isn't overwhelmingly spicy. The menu is huge and I haven't found anything I didn't like. We've tried the tacos, various burritos and enchiladas, and flautas - all delicious. Prices are also very reasonable. What an excellent little gem of a restaurant. First of all I was greeted with a smile then led to my table. The service was more than excellent and and my server Lacy was on the ball and more than helpful. I ordered the burrito supremo and sakes for fresh jalapeños to be added into it and it was excellent. We had a group gathering reserved for a Saturday. Walked in around 6pm and the restaurant wasn't too busy. However, by the time 8:30pm rolled around, the place was packed and people were waiting in line to get in. I ordered the carne asada, which came with a huge separate place of lettuce, tomato, onions, avocado, refried (or black) beans, and flour (or corn) tortillas. The carne asada came in two large pieces. Meat was savory and easy to bite into. I usually like mine a little more charred, but I didn't mind. My coworker got enchiladas with mole. The mole was delicious and savory. I kept dipping my asada in there! They also have a two for one deal on the house margaritas. I definitely had my share of two. Salsa for the chips were okay. Visiting the Leavenworth area and we dropped by here for dinner. We waited 10min for a table but the wait staff was really great. We ordered tac9s as it was taco Tuesday as well as fajitas. Best queso around! This place must be the place to be. It was packed when I came last Wednesday. I ate at the bar. Excellent service by the bartender on duty who also had tables in another part of the restaurant. The only reason this place is getting 4 stars out of 5 is because the chicken on my alcapulco salad was pre-made. I would have loved to have a fresh piece of chicken just prepared right off the grilled. This seemed like it was already made like during prep. It was room temperature. However when the margaritas gave me a good buzz to go shopping in this cute little downtown area and only had me spend $7.50 for two drinks on my vacation, I give 4 stars! I would definitely come again just for the drinks and probably just stick to a chips/salsa/queso order to eat!
