Last week I came here with my daughter who is a pharmacist and her meal was gross. Today 4/6/21 I came with my friend and the refried beans were rancid. First the lime margarita on the rocks was wayyy too sweet, it took 4 extra limes took make it drinkable! The rice was so bland and was almost all white ,no tomato base. Trip to La Mex I typically don't like going out and especially somewhere that doesn't offer the best experience. Therefore, I will be honest about my experience there. As we entered the restaurant, our first impression was the dim, hazy, yellow lights and the rhythmic Mexican music. The familiarity of Spanish music gave me a sense of welcoming and cozy feeling. The effort in authentic Mexican decor was well done with the colorful paintings and flowers across the walls. without being too much. We were escorted to our tables by a nice lady. She reminded me of my art teacher, by her amiableness. As far as the size of the restaurant, it wasn't small per se but it was definitely not big either. This is not a traditional Mexican place, not only because of the lighting but of other factors as well. Approaching the service, the waiter was very nice when escorting us to our tables and was very useful in helping us choose what order after we told her it was our first time. I was surprised with the variety you could choose from.It definitely took me and my mom to choose from the menu. We ultimately ended up choosing a plate of enchiladas for my mother and a salad for myself. For me, the salad was not that great and the enchiladas were nothing special, somewhat bland as they lacked flavor. I wasn't satisfied with the lack of flavor. The rice accompanied with both of our plates were not very good. My salad just tasted very much like your average salad. As for my mom, who came with me ordered enchiladas and I tried it too but they were not that good. The cheese filling was okay. I had high expectations for it because Enchiladas are my favorite. So, despite having a traditional dish in their menu, it really didn't taste like the rich Mexican food I'm used to. In general, it seemed like the dishes were really simple. I couldn't feel the effort the place had in regards to the ingredients they used. I was curious to try the other menu but was not looking forward to trying out more dishes that would be made with much effort. The ambience was good and the food was average so I'll give it a three out of five stars. I would go back to that restaurant if I was extremely hungry but don't think it'll be a regular place. I will start eating in on a regular basis. Especially with my rather large family. We usually get loud when we're all together and this restaurant is rather quiet and reserved. Saying that, I think the restaurant is perfect for those who are looking for a relaxing place to eat a filling meal. I respect that they're introducing a variety of dishes but they need to make more flavorful dishes. I would've liked it if the salad had felt fresher and more seasoned. Took my sister out here to celebrate her birthday along with her 3 sons and we had a blast. We all ordered huge platters of carne asada which were all really good. I told the waitress it was my sister's birthday and she was nice enough to throw a little impromptu with a small dessert with a lit candle and we all sang the "happy birthday" song. I used to go to La Mex years ago and loved it. I am disappointed to say I recently returned for a lunch date with my hubby and was quite underwhelmed. The tortilla chips brought to our table tasted like generic store bought chips & most were broken in tiny pieces. Not freshly made. The salsa tastes like store bought with little flavor. Disappointing. I didn't receive the enchiladas that I ordered but was so hungry I ate them anyway. This used to be a fun spot for my sisters, mom & I to meet for a night out. We sat in the patio area which is very nice and surrounded by plants to block the traffic sounds. We ordered enchiladas, tacos and margaritas which were excellent! They seemed to be struggling with table service. We sat for 20 minutes before we were able to flag down an employee to help us. It seemed like a different server had each table. Once the employee clearing tables (not our waiter) saw how we were not being helped, he kept stopping by our table to see if we needed anything the rest of the evening. We went here for my great nieces birthday party. There were twelve of use, it was a week day. We got there at 6:15. They weren't that crowded. It took over an hour for them to get our drink orders. They didn't correctly get our appetizer order. Drink orders were incorrect. It took over an hour for us to get our food. They forgot my burrito. My friends cheese burger and fries were ice cold and he had to send it back. Now the good side, this was my first time and I must say the Burrito was great. Everybody's food was good once they got it correctly. Service was horrible, drink orders were sent back several times. Food was great once it was correct. Came for a friend's birthday but was extremely disappointed. I arrived before my friends and asked for a table but they sat others first before asking if I actually wanted to be sat. They did not bring menus for over 10 minutes and then we shared menus because they did not bring enough. Couldn't get our waitresses attention and she seemed extremely annoyed when we each ordered another margarita. When we asked for separate checks our waitress laughed at us and said no. I thought she was joking but she was serious and came back refusing to bring separate checks. After asking again she walked by and gave the birthday girl a dirty look like we'd overstayed our welcome. I'm not sure if Stephanie was having a bad day but it's not okay to take out on your customers. My husband and I enjoyed ourselves at this restaurant the food was pretty good however I didn't like the salsa and chips they serve but my husband did. The waiter was very nice and helpful to explain to her that this was the first time so we were trying to get comfortable with what is good here on the menu and she was very helpful. They often mess up my order as I was a vegetarian and they often gave me chicken enchiladas when I ordered cheese...now I am vegan though and wish there were more vegan options. The food does not seem super authentic but I do appreciate the great flavors and the American options. Just because it's not necessarily authentic doesn't mean it isn't delicious! Haven't been there in quite a while. Waiter was inattentive, unfriendly, messed up orders, really attentive to surrounding customers tables. Rude when we asked him to correct his mistakes with orders. As a result we did not tip well because we we were not properly served all evening. He actually came out to parking lot as my son and I left with my 83 year old mother and called us out regarding our issues with Gonzalo. He sarcastically thanked us and told us to say it to his face next time. We did and then he followed us out and was unprofessional. Will not be returning.
