As a Joliet staple it pains me to write this review for the Big Chill but the people of Joliet need to know. Ambiance....none. The place looks like it could use a good cleaning and renovation. The area in the back where there are tables is filthy. They had boxes stacked everywhere with dust on them. They didn't have any pop in the coolers besides diet Mountain Dew. As I sat there waiting for my pizza, from the corner of my eye I thought I saw something run across the floor. When I actually looked down it was the biggest cockroach I've ever seen!!!! I grabbed my pizza and left, tossing it in the garbage once I got home. Needless to say, I won't be back. I'm sure anyone that steps foot into that place won't doubt that there are roaches there. read more

There are clearly some things I liked and some I didn't. The food was good. We got the burger and Italian beef they were tasty. They didn't toast the burger buns. I wish they did. They gave Us plenty of fries with our food. Some opportunities are it didn't feel very welcoming. It felt like we were sitting in their living room. It smelled like someone was smoking upstairs or in the back. The table was dirty with crumbs. The ketchup had grime around the base of the lid. I wish I had gotten my food to go. read more

This place was absolutely awful. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and it was an utter dissapointment. I tried their hot dog, (Chicago style), BLT with their fries. Firstly, they use diced tomato paste with diced tomato plus its cold on the hot dog and BLT which is a major no! On top of that, the hot dog was drenched in toppings! Fries are overcooked, their food leaves an awful after taste in your mouth and it's settled really horribly after eating. This place is a neighborhood staple but it feels like just from being inside and looking at the condition that this place has unfortunately seen better days. read more

This restaurant is near where I live and is very convenient when I'm hungry and don't want to drive far. I usually order cheese fries when I go. My only complaint is that the cheese is always cold and the fries seem to be cooked in old grease. I'm Hoping this review will help improve that. read more

I've passed the big chill about a million times, and hadn't stopped in to check them out. I mean years and years now! I finally broke that cycle and stopped in. I checked out the menu, and they have pizza, Italian beef, sausage sandwiches, hot dogs, ice cream etc. On this particular day I was craving a chili dog. The lady that was working informed me of a special of two dogs and fries for 5 bucks so that's what I went for. It only made sense to get this. (no I didn't eat a of this. I was also feeding my honey!) The chili dog was awesome!! The chili they use is F***ing great!! The regular hot dog was good as well. What I liked about these hot dogs is that they don't steam them in water like everyone else. I can't tell yet how they cook their hotdogs, but they either fry or char grill them. This is a nice change from the norm!! My boyfriend went to the big chill two days later and ordered a sausage pizza, and I liked it! I'm too glad I stopped in and checked this place out! I loved the autographs that were on the wall inside of the restaurant! Fergie from the Black eyed peas has enjoyed some big chill!! Absolutely delicious. Great place to chill the crew. Classic American diner feel with a splash of local history and memorabilia. Great specials like a piping hot 16 inch 'za with bread sticks for $20. Yup, that's all right no typos. TWENTY DOLLARS!!! Surprised they're still in business with these absolute steals of daily deals. You definitely get your big bang for your small buck at big chill. Our pizza just came out as I'm typing and WOW. I was all set to love this place for really good, homemade Italian pizza and pasta. I enjoyed a delicious calzone for an early dinner and thought nothing of it until I woke up the next day with swollen eyes and lips. Either the calzone or the au jus/marinara they served with it was loaded with MSG, which I'm extremely allergic to. 24 hours later I started experiencing a severe migraine that lasted for 36 hours until the last of the MSG was out of my system. Not a fun time. I'm really disappointed because it seemed like The Big Chill was going to be a real winner for tasty, inexpensive food close to USF. If you are allergic to MSG, beware. read more

Went to the Big Chill for dinner. It is a local hot spot. However it is NOT your typical fast food restaurant. In a non-descript building (and name), it specializes in Italian food. My 13 yr old son and I both had the Italian Beef special. We got it with hot giardaners and fries. It was EXCELLENT. At first I wasn't impressed with the bun. You see, I'm used to really soft buns for beef sandwiches. As I ate the beef, the bun I got today held all the juices in (instead of all over my hands). This is the best pizza in the Joliet area and beyond. I had no idea that it would be as good as it. The place is small and it's name makes you think it's only ice cream. But trust that the rest of the menu is well worth it. The only down fall is that they close at 8pm and are not open on Sundays. We come to Joliet on an annual basis for the PSP Paintball event in June. We always stop here for lunch as they have the best Italian beef sandwiches! Their bread rivals the poboy bread from New Orleans, which I should know because that's where I'm from. They grill the bread with garlic butter, then pile it high with the beef. Add to the the peppers and onions, and then the sport peppers! So awesome! Spilt an order of fries and you are stuffed! They only reason I didn't give this place a 5 star is because the ac doesn't work that great and the bathrooms are tiny and not so great. read more

Interesting and inviting from the outside, the charm wore off when stepping inside. I ordered and paid for a turtle sundae. While preparing it, the counter guy informed me that they were of of pecans and if peanuts would do (ugh). I was a sport and went along - but shouldn't have. Not only were the peanuts stale, the ice cream wasn't really ice cream. It was some sort of frozen milky something. I didn't make a fuss, tossed the sundae (who does this?) and left.
