This place shocked me in more of the ways than one. I assumed this was a fast food in and out super quick "Mexican restaurant ", but I was right and wrong at the same time. You do walk in order with the kiosk, and wait for your food, like a fast food restaurant. But the food and the amount was by far more than I ever anticipated for a chain and fast food restaurant. The meat with my fajitas was tender and very flavorful. The fajitas were loaded with chicken, steak, bell peppers, and onions. I recently stumbled upon this place after seeing a reel about the new sweet corn icecream and decided to get takeout. I got the California burrito bowl with tofu and the sweet corn icecream. The burrito bowl was so delicious! Loved the balance of the flavors. I also asked for the peach habanero salsa on the side and omg, it was really spicy but in a good way. The peach and habanero work really well together. The icecream was too cute to eat. It literally looked like a real corn on the cob. The attention to detail on the icecream is impeccable. Very quick service and ordering was super quick on the self-service kiosks! Lunch and dinner comes with rice and beans. I ordered the nachos which tasted so amazing, with fresh guacamole and pico de gallo! La Mexicana Grill is the real deal! We live in the area and decided to walk over today to grab lunch to-go. When you walk in, there are a few tables lined up to dine it and then the kitchen. There is a piece of plexiglass up protecting the employees and the delicious food they're cooking up. Everyone is wearing masks too, of course, but I appreciated this additional safety precaution. The menu is hanging above where you order and is easy to read. There area lot of options including tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and even burrito bowls that look very similar to Chipotle! I decided to go with something I know and love, a quesadilla. To spice it up from the ol' tortilla and cheese, I added steak and fajita vegetables. We grabbed some chips & salsa to take home with us too! The food was ready in about 5 minutes, and despite the cold and windy weather, everything was still hot (and packaged nicely) by the time we made it home. My quesadilla was so dang yummy! The steak was cooked and seasoned nicely and wasn't soggy like they can sometimes be when you get them to go. They provided sour cream, guacamole, and verde salsa along with it. Our chips and salsa came with a large portion of salsa that we ended up popping in our fridge and I'm sure we'll use it up this week. The chips weren't the best I've had, but I almost always have tortilla chips on handy, so it was no biggie. Can't wait to come back! La Mexicana has a good thing goin. read more

We went with the surf and turf burrito and the steak taco dinner. Portions were good and food was very fresh and delicious. The verde salsa was great and had a slight kick. The only thing I didn't like was the rice- it tasted strongly like plain white rice and had zero flavor. I will definitely order from La Mexicana again the next time I'm craving tacos!! read more

We walked in with a party of 5 and ordered many tacos. Also, thanks to Yelp, I checked in and received a free order of chips, guacamole, and salsa. Our order was precise, and tacos tasted delicious. The tacos came with a light red salsa that tasted great if you're a spice lover like I am, and the green salsa was milder. I ordered two al pastor tacos, one carnitas, and one steak taco. All of the tacos were delicious with tender meat that was flavorful. This is definitely a spot we will be visiting the next time we're in Wrigleyville for a Cubs game. Lastly the service was great as the lady who took our order was pleasant and the cooks got our order done quickly on a busy taco Tuesday. Let me start with 3 complaints about my world. 1) Most Mexican food restaurants in our rotation send us stale chips. 2) Or we're sent way too few chips. 3) My 8 yr old daughter is boring. My theory is that most restaurants are saving their fresh chips for their in-restaurant diners. They also give them basket after basket. Why the disservice to the delivery orders? I'm not sure. Out of sight, out of mind? Regardless, I feel like most of our mexican take out orders suffer from a bunch of stale chips and there's barely any of them. Order "salsa plus chips" and "guacamole plus chips". Good luck getting 2 orders of chips. So it is of incredible surprise that our delivery order of La Mexicana Grill came with so many chips! We've got chips for days. Fresh. Tasty. Huge props to this place. Next, I'm constantly on the lookout for a good chimichanga. I know I know. Not the healthiest option on the menu. But it's been a rough week. And they have a fantastic one here. Let's get to my boring kid. All she'll eat at a Mexican restaurant is quesadillas. And she often barely touches them. But she had a single bite of my steak chimichanga, and now she's obsessed. So thank you La Mexicana Grill for opening her eyes to something else on the menu that can get her attention. Im honestly taken aback by my last experience here. This was my go to Mexican take out place until recently when I was delivered food that was covered in mold. Truthfully I can't even begin to comprehend how this was even sent to me looking the way it did, clearly covered in green mold. It was such a negative experience that it now makes me question the sanitation and food safety practices of the whole restaurant.
