I've been by this place a bunch of times but never had the time to walk inside until today. And now that I've tried it, I can say I will definitely be back. Their frozen fruit/other bars alone are incredible. There are so many fun and interesting flavors, and they look handmade with real pieces of fruit or other ingredients inside. My partner for the elotes which were creamy and spicy but delicious. I had the horchata which doesn't look like much in the photo but it was amazing. It was sweet, cinnamony, and creamy. They added a little bit of ice to make it perfectly chilled and refreshing. I would absolutely get the horchata again, but I would love to try the frozen bars as well. It's difficult to park here and ordering can be challenging with the number of options available, but the deliciousness of the product speaks for itself. The staff is helpful to help you narrow down your options, but there is no need to ask them what the best flavor is because they'll tell you that they're all good (which is probably true, I haven't tried a flavor I didn't like yet). In addition to the creamy delicious ice cream options that come in enormous portion sizes (I think a 2 scoop should really be considered 6 servings), the yogurt with fresh fruit that they have is really fantastic. I wish I'd discovered this many years ago as an alternative to the standard parfait that you find everywhere else. I liked this location a lot. It was cool to see a Mexican ice cream shop, next to a Mexican convenience store, next to a Mexican restaurant all in the same parking lot. They're open until 10pm on the weekdays. Not sure about weekends. It was close to 9pm and my s/o always demands ice cream after a meal like he's my 8 year old child. Nonetheless, it satisfied the craving and very affordable pricing for two cream cones. I am a huge fan of their mangonadas, their mamey and guava ice cream. My husband and I were looking for frozen yogurt, and we came across La Michoacana. When we walked in, we were greeted by bright, warm colors. There were no menus available. There were three screens above the service area that were blank, so I'm guessing this is where the menus normally are. After checking out the flavors, I got two scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone. I got the chocolate chip and the mint chocolate chip ice cream flavors. These were the biggest ice cream scoops I have ever seen. They easily gave me six regular scoops of ice cream. The flavors were very rich and sweet, exactly what I was looking for. You get a value for your money. The parking lot is a pain to try and navigate. There is not enough parking for all of the businesses. When we left, we were blocked in by someone double parking to use the convenience store. The food and service are pretty good, and La Michocana comes highly recommended. read more

Actually, this is a small chain store through running throughout Illinois. I always enjoy their popsicles and specialty dessert. Try out the corn with the mayonnaise and spice since that is fantastic tasting. Enjoy some chips with cheese as well. It's worth your time to pay this place a visit and go with a friend. I try to avoid this place at Des Plaines, they have good Ice cream, however, this place has a very bad customer service. on 5/28/23 I had to waited 35 minutes just to get an Ice cream, the people who works there are rude maybe they don't get paid enough that's why they don't a good customers service. On top that of that, this place charge you extra if you used your debit card. From now on I will be going to Oberweis ice cream in Park Ridge, good ice cream and excellent customer service. We are so glad we stopped by on our way back from dinner. We stopped in at 8:30pm and there were about 5 customers ahead of us. With a couple workers and most orders made fresh, you can expect to wait in line as we did for about 20 minutes. Hubby got the yogurt ($3.99) mixed with fresh fruit pieces and sprinkled with a mixture of granola, raisins and coconut flakes. This is so good, I would definitely get it again. Next time, I will ask for more yogurt as I felt the ratio of yogurt to fruit favored the fruit. My youngest got a couple scoops of mango ice cream ($1.99). That has to be the most delicious, freshest mango ice cream I've ever had. My oldest got bubble gum flavored paleta de agua ($1.89). I had the mango paleta de agua with the tamarind stick ($1.89). 4/5 for my experience during my first-visit-ever to a La Michoacana. The group I was with came in here specifically for ice cream at about 8:30pm on a Friday night. The place was hopping. So, so many ice cream and popsicle flavors to choose from. Not only do they taste great, but they all look fabulous as well. Kudos to those who get the deserts to look so pretty. Definitely a feast for the eyes! They cater to the lactose intolerant customer and have dairy-free options, too. I chose a scoop of butter pecan and a scoop of mint chocolate chip served in a waffle bowl. Scoops are very generous. It was quite a lot of goodness for less than $4. I loved the butter pecan, but the mint had a strange artificial aftertaste that wasn't quite jiving with me (or maybe I've been tasting artificial mint my whole life and La Michoacana is the real deal?) I'll definitely try a different flavor at my next visit. I'm curious to visit other La Michocana locations in the area. The parking lot of Mannheim's is pretty crummy. If the neighboring businesses are busy, good luck finding parking. read more

Note: there are actually two different La Michoacana's in Chicago and greater Chicago area. There is a La Michoacana with a logo that has a girl and says "Es Natural" on it (this location), and a La Michoacana with that doesn't have this logo (like Prospect Heights location). The ones with the "Es Natural" logos are significantly better and give bigger portion sizes compared to the others. There are very few of these "Es Natural" ice cream shops in the North West Suburbs but a ton in South Chicago. I hear they originated in the Pilsen area and I'm surprised they have yet to gain popularity in the suburbs. But i'm sure they'll get there. I'm familiar with the more busier location in Mount Prospect and yesterday was my first time here. This location is more spacious with more seating. They serve some high QUALITY ice cream with a large QUANTITY. It's very rare you hear an ice cream shop with both, it's either really good ice cream but expensive, or really bad ice cream but cheap. I love the Oreo ice cream here, it is filled with chunks of oreos. The double scoop cone is $4.30 and they will load you up on it. The service is excellent and they let you sample as many flavors as you'd like. I'm a huge fan of this place. read more

Love this place. This is a Mexican ice cream, popsicle and snack shop on a somewhat overlooked corner of Mannheim north of Rosemont. My wife got a habit going here. We have some of their popsicles in our freezer at all times it seems. I love their fresh fruit popsicles and make a point of trying a new flavor every time I come. So far, I am in love with watermelon, mango, strawberry, and strawberry-kiwi flavors. Can't miss with any of them. I tried tamarind last time - a little weak on flavor but not bad. Besides the popsicles, they have ice cream by the scoop, as well as specialty items like the "walking taco" flaming hot Cheetos or chips with cheese and other toppings on them. They also have those puffed wheat wagon wheels by the bagful. My kids are hooked on those. Usually, we are the only non-Hispanic customers when we come. If you arrive in the evening, be ready to wait because the line can be long. Can't imagine what it will be like when it gets warmer in summer. The best ice cream I have ever had. I've been here once and I recall ordering in Spanish (I wasn't as fluent as the waitresses and waiters there). The spicy Mexican ice cream was very spicy and very scrumptious. Then one opened nearby where I live, where 7-11 and Maine East are. I've been to that one twice and I tried to find that restaurant on here but couldn't find it so I'm writing my review for that restaurant over here. The waiters and waitresses there are really nice, especially this old lady who has one of the greatest smile. I just went there today and I loved the ice cream and milkshake I ordered. i tried to order for my friend and i and it felt like an uphill battle. we wanted to pay together, one elote, one hot cheeto elote, and horchata, as stated by the menu, and they could barely understand me. i understand this place is more culturally hispanic as i am hispanic myself, but i feel that there should at least be one english-speaking employee in all businesses considering we are a mainly english speaking country. once i went to check out, they made the two elotes separate orders, which i clearly stated i was paying for both and the horchata. not only that, but i did not get my horchata because at the last minute, a translating customer told me they were out of horchata. i then walked to my table out of frustration with both eltoes, and one of them clearly spilled, i asked for a new one due to half being gone, and they told me id have to pay. you'd think i'd get some generosity considering the inconvenience of this all. moral of the story, i never got my horchata. read more

After taking the kids to Mini-golf we wanted to cool down with some Ice Cream. I searched Yelp and found La Michoacana nearby. There are a few in Chicago but never had a chance to try.
