I am still convinced that La Michoacana still has one of the best tortas in OKC! It's especially good with their salsas. One is a little sweet and the other is creamy and spicy. Don't expect anything fancy. Don't expect to be wowed. Expect to pay very little money for plenty of food. If you like these expectations, you will like La Michoacana. Chips and salsa come with every order. The salsa is very plain. Doesn't have much like onions or cilantro. Not complaining because it's free. Not the best salsa out there. Let's get back to how inexpensive this place is. Tacos are only $1.95 each. On Tuesday, they are only $1.25 each, pretty insane. They are the small tacos though. I loved the one with fresh pineapple in it. Do yourself a favor and try that one. Don't overthink and question whether pineapple goes well with tacos. The answer is oddly YES. Also ask for hot sauces. None of them are really that hot to me. A bottle of Coca Cola, 5 tacos, and chips and salsa only cost a little under $15. They take cash only. Luckily I had a $20 bill left. Been here at least 5 times in the last 2 weeks. Like many mom and pops, the outside looks a bit distressed and the interior could use a revamping, but it's clean and the staff is very nice even if there's a bit of a language barrier. The food is very well crafted and vibrantly seasoned. Pastor is prepared on a trompo with fresh pineapple added on top of the plate. There's nice selection of cakes, flan and other sweets available for desert. Decidedly made its way deep into my rotation. Well worth a 5 mile drive. read more

I tried the street tacos here, and while there were issues they were still pretty good. First these had too much cilantro and not enough diced onion. Asada meat was chopped fine, not grilled to my liking, didn't taste steaky. Al pastor was better but had a problem. They offer pineapple for it, but they add it diced fresh and not grilled into the meat like it should be. Fresh pineapple was too strong and gave it an odd conflicting flavor. I'll try next time with less pineapple or maybe they will grill it to caramelize properly if I ask nicely. I do like that al pastor is cooked traditionally on a "trompo" vertical rotisserie spit. I added an extra star for that and for at least offering pineapple which many in OKC don't do. They also serve a variety of burgers that I need to try. Last issue here is sign on door says tacos are 99 cents, but it's only their al pastor. And I'm pretty sure I was charged extra for pineapple without notice. Asada were $1.50 each up to $1.75 for lengua and other meats. Oh and it's cash only. read more

This is a cash only place. Very inexpensive tacos that's worth raving about. For the tacos, it also comes with extras items like pickled carrot, jalapenos, radishes, etc. And there is also complimentary chips and salsa for the table. I got the carne asada and al pastor. They char the tortillas very well here, giving it a nice crisp texture. And you don't just get one tortilla, you get two per taco! The carne asada didn't have of chunks of steaks and it was thinly slice. You really don't need any sauces for it because the meat itself is well-seasoned. For the al pastor, it was equally delicious and flavorful. They leave the skins on the meat so there was some crunch as you bite into the taco. I also got agua de pina. It was refreshing, but wasn't great comparing to others that I've had. I was hoping that they have elote, but they don't have that here. Due to the language barriers, the service that we had was a bit frustrating at first. Our server is so sweet, but at times she was a bit slow. I was the last one to get my food since she forgot what I had ordered since there was one other person ordering almost the same thing as I did. So she went around to different tables with my plate. I had to get her attention and remind her what I've ordered. Other than that, for the price, value, and quantity of food that you get, I can't really be too picky on the service. read more

Well, I've found the new home of my favorite Al Pastor in the city. It's La Michoacana NG at NW23rd & Ann Arbor Ave. The service was excellent, and the tacos were equally as good. The Al Pastor was spot on fresh and juicy. There's a window into the kitchen where you can watch them shave the meat right off the spinning hunk of goodness. I ate 3 and probably could have downed 3 more. I had to make room for the Rajas taco. Rajas con queso is a taco filling made with fresh Poblano chile, a mild green chile typically used for chiles rellenos, rajas, and crema de poblano. I haven't run across it that many times. So I had to get one. I ate it in 3 bites. I can't remember breathing in between any of them. Yeah, they're that good. They even have a second area that is an ice cream parlor that includes flavored waters. I had a sample of the strawberry cheesecake ice cream and it was delicious. Delicious place for tacos! Came by on the weekend to try some of their street tacos. Pretty good deals on "Taco Tuesdays". I tried the barbacoa and asada. Both SUPER tasty. Love how they do their barbacoa. I've always been an asada taco person and enjoyed their asada tacos. They have a few different sauces to try. One of the sauces was EXTREMELY spicy. Made my tongue slightly numb (maybe stay away from that haha). Very ma/pa feel to the place. Growing up in Mexico, I've been searching the OKC metro for the best legit Al Pastor tacos (where they cook it and slice it off the spit). I've finally found it. The Pastor tacos were so incredibly good. The meat was juicy, thinly sliced and the pineapple on it made the tacos perfect. I've also tried their burrito and torta. Both of which were excellent. This place took me back to Mexico with its authenticity. Only draw back, it's cash only. However, Tuesday's, Wednesday's and Thursday's they have $.99 Al Pastor tacos.
