I've seen these in many places. A friend of mine brought me here to get a fruit cup. None of the fruit was ripe/sweet (strawberries, watermelon, pineapple), except for the papaya. There's way too much plastic and styrofoam being used. Many of the products under the glass are full of artificial dyes. This is not a place I would like to go back to. read more

This La Michoacana has become one of my go to spots. Their ice cream tastes fresh and you can tell they put care into the flavors. I usually go for the mango chamoy or gansito and both are solid choices. The elotes and fresas con crema are also worth trying if you're hungry for more than just dessert. I actually had no idea what I was ordering when I said "Mangonada" and when the girl asked if I wanted "Chamoy" I just said yes and ran with it. OMG. Where else would I ever be able to have this combination?!? I've never heard of it or seen it before but it is addicting!! First the cool frozen gelato mango sweetness and coolness hit your tongue, then the deep spicy chamoy and smokiness heat it up with chili and make you need another spoon to cool it off again with the mango, but more chamoy follows and the cycle is just so addicting. One of the only ice cream spots I could find open after 9pm on a Saturday night too- so they got all that late night ice cream business in the suburbs and they deserve it for using fresh fruits and flavors on their ices, gelatos, and creams. The only regret you may have is not being able to find a parking spot, needing to stand in line while watching massive banana splits walk by you, and perhaps needing to brush up on your Spanish if you have special requests that don't translate easily. I've never been to any of the La Michoacana shops, and this location was my first experience. A little online research tells me that they are all independently owned, so the menu isn't necessarily the same across the different stores. My first impression: this place is huge! There are plenty of seating options. There are also TONS of options for any frozen treat you can think of. It's very fruit-forward, so there was fresh fruit everywhere. The menu was in Spanish, but the employee we spoke with was very friendly in describing what everything was in English to us. We were really interested in the yogurt topped with fresh fruit, but we got a little overwhelmed our first visit there, so we decided to keep it simple. We perused the MANY options of paletas (located in freezers in the front and back of the store). We decided on the strawberry cream paleta, which had a cross section of a kiwi and strawberry visible on the outside. Not only was the paleta pretty to look at, but it tasted absolutely delicious! A big surprise was that there were other fruits inside the paleta. There were a few grapes and a banana. I was definitely not expecting that! I would caution parents to carefully supervise children eating a paleta to make sure they don't choke. All in all, we are definitely fans of La Michoacana Premium in Berwyn. This place is awesome! They offer so many different traditional Mexican desserts and foods, there is something for everyone! They have countless paletas and ice cream flavors as well as fresh fruit and various chip dishes. I tried their strawberry and cream paleta, Cookie Monster paleta, mangonada, yogurt and fruit, and fruit cocktail. Everything was great! The fruit was so fresh it tasted as if they had just picked it from the fields of Mexico. The seasonings they use with the fruits are so tasty and the yogurt is equally as good. My absolute favorite was the magonada with the fresh mango ice cream and the kick of the spicy red sauce. The paletas were also so fresh and flavorful. Do not order from this business on Uber Eats! If they forget an item they will not offer a refund! I ordered a fresas con crema, two yogurts and a mangoneada for myself and sisters. I bought two large green juices. They're $10 each, and almost half was pure foam. I complained to Ana, the girl who made them, and she sent me to talk to Mary, the manager. She said the foam was unavoidable. Some foam, yes, I agree, but not almost half of the juice. She made me a small green juice herself. And that one was exactly how I always get my green juices, a little bit of foam. I had to pay for that small green juice and my complaint was not resolved. Needless to say I will NOT be coming back to this place. I have been coming here for such a long time but the manager not resolving my complaint made me super mad. She saw and understood what I was saying, I showed her my green juice compared to the one she made and she agreed with me but did nothing about it. The ice cream and yogurts sold here are fantastic. They have cups filled with fruit and yogurt topped with granola, coconut, crushed nuts, or raisins. The agua de frutas is a yogurt drink with a small amount of fruit. The paletas are great too. My favorite right now is the pine nut paleta or paleta de pinones. They also have elotes with the mayo and cheese, flamin' hot chips with cheese, scoops or ice cream, mangoneadas and cueritos. During the summer there were long lines out the door. Came In with 3 customers being taken care of... no one else was in the place...more than 3 workers on staff. 2 other customers came in after us and they took care of those two people. They didn't even acknowledge our presence completely ignored us. One thing is when you go somewhere and it's so busy/packed or only one person on staff - another thing is when the place is empty and have many people on staff. Finally a lady acknowledged us AFTER the 2 people that came after us were being taken care of ... I addressed the matter and all she said was that they take care of people by the door. Why would I stay by the door entrance when the place is empty? Plus, there is no sign saying so. There was NO apology by anyone on staff nor any kind of discount. Absolutely rude, and worst customer service I've had -- not even during the height of the pandemic did this happen to us anywhere. This is what you will find in a traditional ice cream shop in Mexico but, they raised the bar with decor, and menu options that also offer street food snacks. Here's the glory and I'll translate: 1. Paletas De Agua/ Popsicles that are water based 2. Paletas De Crema/ Popsicles that are creme or milk based (they also have frozen chocolate covered fruit) 3. Nieves/ Ice Cream flavors are ridiculous they have everything from regular to premium flavors like ferrero rocher, gansito, cheesecake. Premium flavors have whole size items of what the ice cream is simulating. Creative Sundaes, Raspados (snow cones) Diablitos (snow cones with chile powders and other chile flavorings), Splits 4. Augas Frescas/ Fresh Fruit Juices in cups or the fruit shells and smoothies. 5. Mangoneadas/ Mango Lemonade is the literal translation- chamoy sauce, mango slices, lime juice, and chili powder, and decorated with a tamarind straw. 6. Yougurt & Fruit 7. Botanas/Mexican Street Snacks- Chicarron Preperado (imagine loaded nachos but pork rind based) Dorilocos (Dorito based loaded nachos), Regular Elotes (corn on the cob with butter, mayo, and cheese) but I highly recommend the Cheeto Elote, (covered in smashed flaming hot cheetos so good!) and finally Tortas (Mexican hot sandwiches). This location gets 5 stars for cleanliness, friendliness, mind blowing creative menu and flavors, and awesome screen tv's that display the menu. What I love the most is that you can have anything however you like and as much as you want for one set price. If you want your paleta dipped in chocolate w/ toppings added on top, they will do that for you. Service is on point! Words of Advice: Make sure you go to a "Premium" location because I've been to the non "Premium" locals with smaller menus and it will not equate to the full experience. She said that they never did that order without checking to see if my order was on there system.... Kept trying to say that my order was at another store and it wasn't the right store name . Hands down the best ice cream shop in Berwyn. The Mangonadas are awesome. They also have a very unique and wide range of ice cream flavors and each one is very true to its name. I'd recommend trying those as well. 1 scoop is probably equivalent to 2.5 scoops of ice cream. There's a smaller La Michoacana that opened up near 16th street, but their mango ice cream isn't quite the same and they are not as generous with their portions.
