New fave place to study. Just enough outlets and very cute calm environment and they have WiFi. I've only tried their iced coffees and buttermilk mini cookies and they are delicious. I have tried their Tres Leches and Cafe De Olla iced coffee. The tres leches tastes a bit more like cajeta. And the café de olla cold brew is super yummy even a little sweeter than most cold brews. The buttermilk cookies are 50 cents and so addicting. Try the vanilla chocolate chips and the hazel butter cookie. I see on their menu they offer breakfast and lunch as well so I need to return to try. Their cakes also look delicious and so many options. came here as i read reviews that there are vegan options; there are not. they do have soy chorizo, but the breakfast burritos are premade and you cannot remove the cheddar cheese or eggs. i was told that only the flan was vegan, sadly the staff doesn't know what vegan means. if their "traditional flan" is in fact "traditional", that means that it was made with eggs, condensed milk, and (evaporated) milk. maybe their other locations have more options. iced cafe de olla was just ok. read more

I've had amazing food at the Whittier one but with that one closed I went in on a Saturday morning. I ordered a Cold Cafe de Olla and some mini conchas. The concha's were much harder than usual and the server charged me for a hot Cafe de Olla and I had to tell him it was supposed to be cold. The other server gave me the drink and I was better off getting cinnamon water. The coffee was extremely watered down. I attached a picture as you can tell by the color alone. read more

Every time I come into this place it feels like home. It is clean and that is really important to me. Although the sitting area is on the small side it is ample space. Outside tables are located on the Rosemead side. I love the cafe Oaxaca hot latte!! I'm all smiles here! It's made from perfection. You can taste the tiny bits of chocolate. The only thing I would caution when ordering this drink is if you take your time drinking it then the drink starts to thicken. At the end of your drink you will taste a thick paste or masa taste. I take my time drinking my coffee. Which is why I end up tasting that thick masa towards the very end. The pastries are all so good. There is a good problem when walking inside here. It is that you will have many options to choose from. Well I like having that kind of problem. The workers are very nice. I never encountered any attitudes. They have always been friendly. I come here when I get the chance to spoil myself. I usually get the café de olla but today I decided to venture out and try the tres leches latte. I was a little skeptical, thinking it would be overly sweet but I was wrong. Im glad I tried this latte and and pleasantly surprised by the great flavor and intricacy if the drink. Service and ambiance vs flys in the pastry cabinet! First time visiting i have a big sweet tooth spent almost $50 on pastries and one large caramel coffee after staff bagged my items i decided to get a crema danish warmed up to have there with my coffee. When I went back to that pastry cabinet that I had already taken four pastries from and removed my pastry, I realized there was a fly inside the case, so promptly took the pastry in my hand, and went back to the counter to notify the two young ladies working. The manager politely refunded my charge for the pastry inside this case $8, however, did not even go to the pastry case and remove the fly or even check the case or remove the items no action was taken there is two entry doors only one has a fan above it. I believe in any restaurant you should have a fan over all of the doors, especially a bakery. I have no way of knowing whether the fly came from outside, or it was hatched in the pastries, because they were old and we all know where flies come from larva and such. read more

I have a love and hate relationship with La Monarca, I enjoy their coffe and bread. Their tacos are pretty good and can order the trio with different fillings for each taco which is a plus because sometimes you can't decide on just one meat... their service has been great every time I've visited. My dislike is that I can't come here with my son's and husband because the portions are not the most filling for them.... for as much as we spend when we visit they end up still being hungry, guess they just have a bigger appetite... read more

By the afternoon (around 12 pm), they are almost sold out of everything. They do not restock pastries during the day, I guess? At noon there were no more conchas, no trenzas, their bakery shelves were nearly empty. I did not want to buy a bag of dozens of cookies or empanadas without trying the single items first. Also, their breakfast burritos are a lot smaller than I expected. For the price of the burrito, I expected at least double the size. Their coffee is ok. The girl working there was to busy on the phone taking care of her personal business . I went to go get a pastry which looked like it was a day old also not much of a selection. Have you ever been kissed by a butterfly? I have. Monarch butterfly, to be precise. I am a little obsessed with dulce de leche empanada from La Monarca Bakery. It's weird because I dislike dulce de leche anything. Its ddl empanada tastes like sweet caramel butterfly kisses. The filling is not sticky and not hard. The empanada itself is the perfect vessel for its delicious filling. Dulce de leche empanada ($14.00) 16 pcs cajeta per container. I didn't check and mine only had 15 pcs :( Peppermint mini concha ($0.70): cute Christmas mini concha. It was not too sweet and surprisingly I could taste the peppermint. Recently went to the La Monarca bakery and I'm glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised by the robust flavors and the authenticity of their food. I went in not knowing anything that they offer, and quickly learned that they have many great options. When I went I thought I'd be buying one thing but I left with 4-5 things. Wether you're in the mood for sweets like cakes/pastries, or something a little less sweet like croissant. They also have real food options like tacos, that's what I had, so good , but they have a couple other options as well, you can see in the picture I posted. The cafe de olla here is amazing. Definitely an alternative to Starbucks. This coffee shop offers a variety of Mexican style bake goods and pastries. Everything about this coffee shop is unique. Always love a good coffee from monarca. My fave is the cafe de olla, or the abuelita hot chocolate frap. They are open during Covid, with proper mask and social distancing implemented. Currently they have Valentine's Day treats like special donuts, cupcake sets, cookie sets, and coffee sets. If you're a fan of Mexican style coffee then you must stop in and try. Have you been searching for the Mexican or Hispanic version of 85c well I found it! I always wanted one! Dulce de leches, Conchas and other Mexican deliciousness. I had the Tres leches latte and Oatchata latte both were great. As well as their pastries and hand made freshness you can taste. I found this shop on Instagram and I happened to call this location and the who also the one in Whittier. When I called to place my order Jackie who answered the phone was super patient and really nice while answering all my questions since it was going to my first time ordering. When my daughter picked up the 2 orders (12) mini conchas per box and brought it home It was packed so nice and organized. They are delicious nothing compared to other conchas. My family stopped by today, March 19, 2023 and purchased some chocolate conchas, champurrado, coffee, and two slices of cake. The conchas were delicious and my kids devoured them. Champurrado was a lot less thick than any we have ever tried. It almost tasted watered down. The coffee I ordered was delicious and flavorful. Unfortunately, the slices of tres leches and chocolate cake that we tried were both very dry and overall not great. I'm truly disappointed in the service that I was provided, especially when I love the product so much. I ordered a curbside pickup in the morning and arrived slightly after the time indicated. I called as I should and was advised they were very busy, but would be out on 5-10 minutes. They also let me know that if I wanted to step in myself and get my order I could. Defeating the purpose of curbside pickup? Maybe. Because I had my baby with me, I let them know I'd wait. 10+ minutes later...still no call, so I called them. The same women as earlier greeted me and she recognized my voice. She let me know she had time now (not the best choice in words) and would take me my order. When she took me my items, she stated she was sorry, but they were very busy. Never "I'm sorry for the wait." Again, my dissatisfaction is not with the product. Granted I ordered multiple items summing up to almost $60. Items for mothers I love and for my own family. I understand that it's a busy time, but I would expect 1- better customer care and 2-with the changing times and new curbside feature, better attention to that aspect of the business. Will I come back, yes...the bread is amazing! You can't go wrong with fresh, warm conchas and the cafe de olla is bomb. Got some goodies from here, and they were ok. Most of the stuff was a bit dry, but I loved the dusting of cinnamon and sugar. They reminded me of the biscohitos you get in New Mexico. My favorites were the items with guayaba. Banuelos were crisp and perfectly dusted. read more

I have been giving this location several chances to improve on their customer service since it is the only store of theirs that is always clean. In the past six months my orders have either been modified or incorrect. It is really annoying however, I understand that sometimes you just don't have the ingredients available to make the food you are selling. But yesterday was quite off putting as I placed an order on 11/17 fot pick up by 4pm and when I arrived the order was not ready. I ordered a to go carafe of coffee and they were just starting to brew the coffee. I continued to wait but ultimately canceled the order and asked for a refund because I did not have additional time to wait. It is bad time management, customer service and over poor store management if you can't meet the pick up times. Pick up times are not a suggested time. read more

The staff here are so nice. Tony greeted us the moment we walked in, and Judith was so sweet and patient. She let us sample all the cakes and even some cookies too! No where else lets you do that! It was amazingly generous and we appreciated it so much. My favorite was the dulce de leche, so I got a slice of that. Mom liked the Mexican Mocha and got that. We went in around 5 or 6 and it was pretty empty. Very clean and pleasant eating area. The cakes were moist and flavorful. I've also tried their mole sandwich in the past at another location and loved it. They'll refill your reusable water bottles too if you ask! This is by far my favorite location because it's close to home, is next door to the great Uno Teahouse, and is a few minutes from an Ulta Beauty store. So it's near all my favorite things.
