Had gone in person to place a large order for an event. Paid in full, confirmed my order a few times to ensure everything was correct and let them know what date and time I would be there to pick it up. The day of the event, I was late to pick up my order because I forgot about the Farmer's Market traffic/parking. I went in, wasn't even remotely acknowledged (as per usual), and finally the girl that was working the counter saunters over. I let her know I was there to pick up my order. She was looking at me like she had no idea what I was talking about. I explained my order and showed her my receipt. She went over to a different area, took awhile, and then came to tell me they don't have it. I asked her what she meant they don't "have it" and she shrugged and said they don't have it. They apparently didn't make it, even though I went in person to order, pay, and even arrived after the time I said (which would have given them even more time to get it ready). I asked to speak to a Manager, but she is apparently never there. I asked how I can reach someone and she told me I can call the store. WHY WOULD I CALL THE STORE IF THE MANAGER IS NEVER THERE? How is there no way to get in contact with a manager or owner? What kind of establishment is this? The lady wasn't even remotely apologetic about the situation. She said: "I mean, I can try and make it now", which was ridiculous since I needed it packed and ready to go already. Also, they didn't have enough of what I ordered to even be able to fulfill the order. I try my absolute best to support small businesses, but the complete lack of customer service, mediocre products and overall disrespect is just too much for me to ever go back. Every time I've gone in, no one is ever acknowledged (a simple "hi" goes a long way) , they are short-staffed so everyone is running around and orders and often made wrong/forgotten (I've witnessed it), and they just don't seem interested in providing any good service. They really need to do better. I will never return. read more

I don't know why I didn't come to this bakery sooner. Was suffering from insomnia one day before work and decided to search for bakeries on my route to work and this came up. Purchased 1 ham and cheese, 1 ham, cheese and jalapeños, 1 regular croissant and 2 guava croissants. Of course all of this is to share with my coworkers. Not sure if these are baked fresh since I got there before 7am and the shelves and display cases were fully stocked. My coworkers talked about how good these pastries were. One commented that the ham and cheese was the best he'd ever had because the meat was chopped and not sliced deli meat. I didn't eat my ham and cheese croissant until the next day and I agree he was right, it was the best I'd ever had too. Some might argue that they dice the ham to give you less meat and that may be true but it was delicious. The meat is diced so fine that it's almost like the consistency of mush. I will definitely be back to try more items. It is a little pricey so I won't come very often but worth the occasional splurge. The cashier and I did have a language barrier but it all worked out in the end. Spent $26 before the tip. read more

I've been coming to this Monarca for sometime now. I love the Conchas and you can never go wrong with a café de Olla. There's always plenty of parking at walking distance and there's so much to do in the surrounding area. The staff is really kind and although I've never tried the food, the pan Dulce is amazing. Sometimes I just go to bakeries, patisseries, panaderías to try their hot black coffee which at La Monarca was fine. Thumbs up for the coffee. Lid was a little drippy but not more than some places where the plastic lids are held in place with prayer, good intentions, and surface tension. The drip eventually resolved itself as if by magic; it happens. The Wedding Cookies are good. Just don't wear dark colors when eating them. read more

I love this place! But some things that can be considered to be worked on. It would be l a great place to work but... 1. Free Wi-Fi, it connects but doesn't work. It says secured - no internet 2. I had to change my order 3 times because they didn't have 3 type of breakfast burritos I wanted, so I had to settle for Machaca. It's barely 9am! The coffee had a great flavor . Even tho it was an on the sweeter side latte and could definitely taste the Carmel , the espresso flavor came through as well . Super yum . I tried the breads as well , could have been fresher . I will just stick with the coffee and maybe some of their deserts that looked good . I felt bad for the lady at the register the day I came because she had to deal with a rowdy customer in her face accusing her of denying the use of the bathroom to his white son and allowing Mexican people to use it only . I've been coming here for years and they never disappoint. When I firs started coming I would get their blended drinks but now I'm more of an iced drink type. I love their mocha and tiramisu cakes as well as their flan. And their mollete is enough to fill you up but not leave you feeling too bloated. This little gem in Whittier is one of the best places to come enjoy some great MX coffee and some amazing pan dulce. The staff their are amazing, particularly Brenda and Brianna but all the staff are their to help. I'm actually here now and at least here 5 days a week. I ordered 2 biscuits, and for some reason labels are placed inside the packaging as opposed to the outside.. no salsa available either. Customer service was mediocre. If you don't want to be here, I don't want to be here either. I would've dismissed all that was lacking, if the young lady was friendly. I come here specifically for the coffee, which Amazon also sells (for those who enjoy this coffee and want to send as gifts or to those who live out of state). I enjoying making the trip to the store because then I get to enjoy a traditional mollete. If you haven't tried this, you are in for a treat. Every country has their version of toast and this is Mexico's version of it. A mollete sits on a bread called bolillo and it's buttered then broiled to get that crispy crunchy toast. Then you layer beans, cheese, and salsa. I like that you can add soyrizo and add it occasionally. A simple dish but absolutely great tasting. Now the real reason I come here is the coffee. Great tasting cafe de olla is so hard to come by. I love the fact that they sell it as a traveler, perfect for business meetings, brunches, and parties. If you buy the cafe de ollo in the bag make sure to have the right coffee maker type to get the best coffee experience. I have found that using chemex is easy because you can adjust the taste as you go until you find your personal preference. This cafe de olla mix is great because it only has 3 ingredients in it. It has such a great flavor that it's perfect if you are dairy free. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

We visited this bakery over the weekend, excited to grab some champurrado on a rainy Sunday afternoon. It had been a while since we'd stopped by, so we were really looking forward to enjoying our drinks with some sweet bread. Unfortunately, the experience with the hot drinks was disappointing. When we ordered, the employee did mention that the lids didn't fit perfectly, but we didn't realize just how poorly they would fit. As soon as we got to the car and placed the drinks in the cup holders, the lids popped off and the drinks spilled everywhere on my car seat, on my hands, and all over the cups themselves. Thankfully the drinks weren't piping hot, so no one got hurt, but it was definitely a mess. Because the lids didn't stay on, my daughters and I had to take a few sips right away just so the drinks wouldn't tilt over even more while we drove. Instead of enjoying them slowly like we had hoped, we ended up rushing through all three drinks to avoid further spillage. I really hope the bakery considers switching or adjusting their hot drink lids, because the quality of the drinks isn't the issue--the packaging is. We love this spot and were excited to enjoy our visit, but this made the experience much less enjoyable than it should have been. read more
