I lived in Harrisonburg for a full four years and didn't find this goldmine until my last month in town. What a shame, because this is truly a gem of they valley. La Morena demonstrates that simplicity is key! Their tacos are incredible - just a fresh tortilla, your choice of meat, cilantro, onion, and then your choice of homemade salsa and fresh lime on the side. The best taco I've ever had. Cheap eats, with a broad selection of drinks in the supermarket, including Mexican sodas (which of course make American soft drinks look like a bad joke). The food is absolutely awesome. I wish I could go here everyday. Pupusas are something I had never had, love them. As with the Horchata (Rice Milk) which I had also never had and am now obsessed with. While there is not a lot of places to sit and eat because of it being a store and a restaurant, the food taste and value far outweighs the need to eat there every time. There is probably room for about 8 small groups (4 or less). I highly recommend to everyone!! read more

A nice little hole in the wall place to grab authentic Mexican treats. The torts blew my mind. They also have the best queso to drizzle over the giant burritos. I have never had a piece of food from here that was bad. It's pretty's greasy, but that's what makes it so good. I have never seen a convenience store / restaurant in Harrisonburg before, and this place seems to be doing it right. The food is reasonably priced, it's like most local taco trucks as far as quality. They have a salsa bar where you can pick from an assortment of condiments. They serve horchata in a bag, which was fun and it tasted home made (rather then the can mix most restaurants serve). Convenience store side had most standard stuff you would find, with a few Mexican food products thrown in. They serve beer for off premises, which is a plus since Red Front next door won't. read more

This place is awesome. Best authentic Mexican probably in a 100 mile radius. So good. Kind of a hole-in-the-wall and I'm happy I got a tip from a local. I tried as much as I could and it was all delicious. They have a salsa bar that's terrific. It's a place disguised as a convenient store but it's way more than that, no joke. GO THERE. I used to love this place, but recently the quality and customer service have spiraled down hill while prices have gone up. For example I recently ordered the chicken flautas, the tortillas were over fried to the point of being inedible and the chicken inside was now burnt to a black crisp. Ok I said this is an isolated instance, unfortunately this has become the norm as well as orders being wrong and food that was ordered on the phone not being placed in the order and a fight with the gentleman in the front over who's in the wrong. I will not be visiting here anymore due to the continued failure on the process and product. There are several other quality options for Hispanic food in the burg. read more

The pupusa needs improvement in the flavor and cheese department. It lacked flavor!!! I would be better off licking the walls at El Charro for flavor. We ordered the pork/cheese but no cheese to be found. WTF. And the "azada" tacos was dried and again lacked flavor. I tried to put more salsa to moisten the meat up. No go. Sad BC people seem to be giving it 4 or 5 stars but for which food? The burrito was huge but it was mainly shredded lettuce. I don't know if the delivery truck didn't come in or they were being stingy with their ingredient. We had a big order and the girl up front was getting annoyed and didn't have patience at all. UHM hello if there aren't customers like us you wouldn't be in business!!! Then she forgot our drinks and messed up our order. Maybe if she wrote our order down and stop pretending she has a good memory. Serious. I wouldn't return here if I was craving pupusa or some real tacos. Great little place with super authentic food for decent prices! I had the chicken burrito which is HUGE and the fresh pineapple juice which tasted amazing, refreshing, and real. I was there right over the lunch hour and we had to wait sort of long for our food- but it was totally worth it and hot off the stove/oven/whatever! Def would go again. read more

Love the food here, and now that so many online ordering options are available, this place is even more attractive. Yummy food made all on site, nothing feels artificial or heavy. I like ordering online to be able to study the menu better. Eating in is available, but I suggest getting your food to go and heading to a local brewery. Something here for everyone. read more

The worst customer service the owner is a nasty man that does not understand that the customer is right. I've been coming here for over a year and been buying food for my whole office almost every week. I will never be coming back and I suggest you do not go either. They all seem nice at first but then as you keep coming back the nastier the owner and workers become, which is so backwards especially in this line of work. You normally would treat your returning customers with respect and kindness but I guess this business does things backwards and will never receive another penny from anyone here. We went to order over $40 of food today and went and paid for it and picked it up and they forgot to put one item of food a steak burrito to be exact in our bag. So 10 mins later when i got to the office to give everyone their food I saw mine was missing. So I call La Morena back and let them know they forgot my steak burrito and they proceed to tell me they put it in there and we are lying and just trying to get free food. So I drive back to the store and pick up my steak burrito and let the owner know what had happened and he says he understands but then does nothing about it. Oh did I mention he was sitting on my burrito when I got there. So he did nothing and didn't apologize and when I told him we order from here every week and this wasn't the first time this happened and he doesn't think he is in the wrong at all. You be the judge of character but all I can say is not very nice owner and terrible customer service. read more
