A true speakeasy, with a maximum capacity of 30 people. Cool, Spanish vibe, with a variety of cocktails, wines and liquors, as well as modern tapas bites. I enjoyed the Hard Facts cocktail with mezcal instead of tequila, which was delicious and then a dirty gin martini. For a place with Spanish influence, I wish there were more unique olive or other selections for the martinis. I enjoyed my martini. My boyfriend didn't like his two drinks, a bourbon cocktail and a beer. Seating inside is intimate with unique chairs, tables and couches and great red mood lighting. Cute vinyls, books and photos add to the vibe. Only one bathroom and there is a small self-serve coat room. Omg, what a fun time! This is a speakeasy hidden in the uptown 1 subway station! The entrance is on the street level when you come out of the station. You ring the doorbell, and then you walk down to this hidden bar, with an exit door directly to the subway station. It was pretty neat, you could actually see people walking down the stairs into the subway through translucent windows from within the bar. The red lighting and intimate space were exactly what I'd expect of a speakeasy. Our group of 15 fit comfortably in the space, but the space felt like it could fit about 30 comfortably (meaning each person has some space). The music was chill so we did not have a hard time hearing one another. The drinks and service were okay; nothing to complain about. I ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail with ginger beer for $19 (average price of drinks). But truly, what stood out for me was the ambience and experience. We were looking for a cocktail bar post dinner on Sunday and most of the bars were closing or already closed. I remember seeing this bar and I was like oh let's see if it's open, they were also going to close soon but welcomed us for a nightcap. This is a creative idea and cute spot but very overpriced all things considered. For example, charging $16 for 3 potatoes cut in half with 6 slithers of octopus is highway rubbery. (Get it?) I thought the octopus was tasty and not too rubbery but 4 slithers just isn't fair. The guacamole and chips are served with regular Tostitos from the supermarket they're not even the restaurant tortilla chips and not warmed. We also had the pesto with mozzarella. Again, nice flavor but the serving size should be more for what they charge. I'd say the best thing I had there was a chilled French wine and the Mean Caucasian drink. The staff, especially the owner/bartender Jon, was very friendly. It's a cool place to try once but given the extremely skimpy portions and price I probably wouldn't go back. It's not fair to the customer to take such a dividend on the food by charging such a price for a minuscule portion. They have about 4 tables and perhaps 6-8 seats at the bar. Cute place to impress a date and show you found a hidden spot. Go have one drink, impress your date with a cool place then go eat somewhere else for sure! This speakeasy has a very unassuming street presence with a small gold sign and doorbell indicating its location. When you ring the bell, an employee comes to the door and escorts you down a flight of stairs to the bar. It is a pretty tiny space. The bar seats around 6-8 people and there are enough tables for five or six additional parties. They have an intriguing cocktail menu with lots of unique ingredients. I tried the Secret Garden. It was bright green and had a very complex taste profile. The kale gave it some vegetal notes but it was also fruity, juicy, and full-bodied. I loved the chili salt on the rim which added a perfect amount of spice. Can't say it was my favorite cocktail, but it's definitely worth a try for something different. I tried my friend's Hard Facts as well and enjoyed it's subtle flavor. A DJ played a set while we were there. The music started off unintrusively but when we left around 10:30, it had gotten quite loud so it was hard to hold a conversation. Really cool concept of being in the subway station and so many of my friends have sent this place to me so I decided to check it out one night. The entrance was super confusing at first so that took a while. I loved that we exit right into the subway station. While sitting inside, I could also see everyone walking up the station. This place was nothing special - there are definitely better speakeasies in the city that I've had a better experience at. The drinks were okay - nothing special that would make me want to come back. As for seating, we got sat smack dab in the middle of the room. For context, there were tables and chairs lining the perimeter and the bar at the back, but we literally sat right in the middle. It was just awkward for us, especially a while later when a huge group came in and just stood all around us (they didn't have a table so they stood). Overall, this is a place that I'd definitely check out but unlikely to return to. read more

I had been dying to come here since they opened last year right before the city closed due to Covid. I was on the waitlist for awhile and was super happy when I finally got in on a Saturday evening. The entrance its actually on the street where you have to ring a bell to be allowed in. Once you are inside the place its small about 4 tables and 5 bar stools in total but it has a really cool vibe. The drinks were really well made and delicious. I wasn't sure if they had food so I ate before coming here. They do sell tapas and the food smelled really good from the table next to us. The exit is a different door then the one you entered through and that one leaves you inside the 28th station. Its a really cool experience. To say the past two years were bad is an understatement. Lifing got so difficult that I barely had the time to see my friends and family. A friend of mine, who is like an older sister to me, and I finally got a chance to hang out this past weekend. We got happy hour in Chelsea and were on our way home until my friend decided we will do one drink at some speakeasy. I was already three to four drinks in so I was reluctant. When we got to some trash room looking place with a label-less door, I was even more hesistant. I was ready to get my key and put them between my knuckles just in case I needed to defend the both of us until a friendly face opened the door. Believe his name was Justin. I put my keys back in my pocket and proceeded to follow him to a eerie like moment. We sat by the bar, talked to Aaron, and had a great night. We thought we were getting one drink, but the two were so friendly that I didn't realize I drank more than one. I messaged them at 11:30 am on Cinco de Mayo and got a table for the same day! We happened to be taking the 1 train from Chelsea market, so when we followed the SE exit off 28st, we saw the door with the bar's name on the side of the stairs leaving the station. It was really cool - but that's not the entrance (it is being used as an exit now, prob due to Covid). To get there from the street level, you just need to find the address of this bar (google map works wonders). After ringing the doorbell, we were led by an attendee to walk few flights down to reach the speakeasy. The space was pretty cozy, but the seats were spread out to meet Covid requirement. We chose to sit by the bar to have a more intimate experience. We ordered the Tuscan Leather and Uptown Local - the Uptown Local was very unique and definitely showcased the speakeasy's specialty. My partner thought the Tuscan Leather was good, but it wasn't anything special. They also offer food/snack, and a signature drink with their cold brew. This is definitely a speakeasy for the locals..we are lucky enough to be 4 blocks away from the speakeasy. Will def return again read more

It's about damn time... This is my type of spot and atmosphere. Slightly hidden but not, mysterious but transparent, and a fab menu with many amazing choices. I've had this place on my list but I said to myself I'd only go if I was in the area, not as a destination. Well today was the day for this place and it was the perfect day to come. Entrance was not hard to find-- on street level with good instructions on their website. Once inside, we were able to sit at the bar without a reservation. They had a coat rack for our coats which was helpful. It was unlike any other speakeasy I've ever been to-- it kind of had 60s/70s vibes as opposed to other speakeasies which hark back to Prohibition times with their decor. The uptown local is kind of like a rum based old fashioned with a whisper of pineapple. I love stirred and spirit forward beverages so this was a 10/10 for me. The el picador was subtly spicy and citrus forward. For the second round I opted for a sazerac. I saw the bartender lining up three of them on a silver platter to take to another table, so I inferred that they must be something special. I wasn't disappointed! Such a proper sazerac. Maybe the most perfect one I've had. My bf had the built for speed for his second drink and it was a little too sweet for me (had maple syrup in it) but it went down easy. I regret sitting at the bar-- there isn't much to look at and there's a thin curtain separating kitchen, so a bright fluorescent light shone through and kind of ruined the vibe. Music was at a good volume and the atmosphere was otherwise nice; we went on a Sunday on the early side and it wasn't very crowded. We booked ahead but probably could have walked in. The cocktail list is relatively short, about 8 on offer for $18 a pop. They also had a short wine list with the typical 2-3x markup, including some $700 champagne. They also had a fairly stocked bar so could make your standard drinks. I went with the Banana Daquiri, which was tasty but definitely on the sweet side. My main complaint was that there were crunchy rose petals sprinkled on top which were not tasty at all; they mixed all around so I couldn't avoid getting a mouthful with every sip. My friend had the Tuscan Leather and had no complaints but didn't rave either. Overall, I thought the experience was fine, just overpriced and overhyped. The atmosphere would be good for a date but I didn't feel the drinks were anything special. Might be more fun when it turns into a dance party in the later hours. read more
