Beautiful bar and great drinks. The bar itself is just gorgeous and has lovely decor and ambiance. The service was great, and the drinks were very well crafted and $19 each which isn't bad for the area. They also had live entertainment and our singer/piano player was beautiful and talented. Definitely worth a stop if you're in NY!

One of my pet peeves is when a celebrity tries to get into the hospitality/restaurant space just because. I don't know, maybe I'm just a born hater, but it irks me... Just because you can act doesn't mean you should open a bar. Just because you play basketball doesn't mean you should open a steakhouse. I guess I always feel like it's a PR move or to just try and make some extra cash. Where is the soul? All this to say when I heard Baz Luhrmann, the director of the Great Gatsby and Elvis, was opening a cocktail bar in the East Village, I was ready to hate it. I was especially ready to hate when I saw an article that Madonna "endorsed" it... who cares what Madonna thinks of a cocktail bar in 2025? However, right when I walked into Monsieur, I had to eat every last word. It was so tasteful without being pretentious, and that is such a fine line. Dim lighting, old rustic wooden stools and tables, glass chandeliers, tall candles lining the walls, the bar backed with stained glass window panes, etc. It was giving goth/medieval vibes, but not in a try hard way. I'm obsessed. I guess he is working on a Joan of Arc movie, so it all adds up. Cocktails were $19, which is sadly right in line with market price for a good cocktail in Manhattan. I was ready to see $25+. I got a couple Vespers because getting a Vesper makes me feel BEAST. Like James Bond. These bad boys were STIFF. I was rocked walking out of there. We also got some fries because there is nothing like a couple of cocktails and fries, and these fries were phenomenal. They were a thinner cut and extra crispy, so no complaints here. Plus it's hard to mess up fries. Shoutout to Baz. So much soul in here. Sorry for not believing off rip, but you made me a believer. BAZZY BAZ!! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

We were walking around the neighborhood and this spot caught our eye. It's got a gorgeous brick facade and these really cool old century lamps with fake fire. We had some time so decided to spot in and I'm so glad we did. They have been open for less than 2 months but it's definitely already popular among the locals and should definitely be packed with even more people soon. The ambiance here is perfect. It's medieval meets Harry Potter. They have these cozy booths that make for an intimate/private dinner. We sat at the bar and grabbed a drink. I got the "maid". It was an excellent cocktail - refreshing and perfectly balanced. Their cocktail menu looked really good and had some great options. We also got the croquettes and they were a yummy snack. Our bartender, Austin, was awesome. Really friendly and helpful. He made the whole experience even more fun.

Very medieval and curated space. Lots of eclectic things in every corner. The drinks were okay but the space is pretty cool to checkout.

Monsieur opened up about a month ago and I was able to try it this evening. I showed up around 5:30PM on a Tuesday and the place was already half full. They open up at 5PM. I did not have a reservation and was a party of one. The host was very gracious and said I could grab a table, they just needed it back in an hour. I would have sat at the bar but it was already full. The tables are very close together here so be prepared to make friends with your neighboring tables. The menu is small, one page for signature drinks and one page for small bites. The last page is dedicated to wine, beer and mocktails. Though the food selection is small, there are options for vegetarians and vegans here, which is much appreciated. I had the grilled cheese with béchamel and black truffle, served with mini cornichons. It was very good and filling. I had the Honey Ginger drink which tasted like a refreshing juice and did not make me tipsy (thankfully). For those who remember the old dive bar (The Boiler Room) that once stood in this spot, you won't recognize the space at all. It's totally gutted and beautified. The Boiler Room has now moved a few blocks away. The decor is medieval in its nature with a theme of monkeys throughout. It's truly a stunning interior, with so many small details noted throughout. There are 3 bathrooms and they are so pretty (while the bathrooms are located in the same spot as the old Boiler Room bathrooms, they are 1000x more gorgeous and clean). Service was a bit inconsistent and at times, missed the mark for me. While I was seated promptly, I waited a while for a server to acknowledge me, despite them passing by my table many times. Whereas the table on my left was asked about every 8 minutes if everything was good and if they needed anything. I noted some tables had water while others did not. I am not sure if water has to be requested or not. I was not brought nor offered water but the table to my right was immediately brought cups and a water bottle. The interactions with the servers though were friendly when I was able to engage with them. The host, as mentioned before, was very kind. I am not sure why the service fell short in a place that seems totally on the ball with everything else. There may or may not be a coat check. I was not offered to check my coat, but I noticed the host bringing coats back to another room. You could make Reservations online if you choose to do (I believe they use the Seven Rooms platform). I can totally see this place being impossible to get into on a weekend. Overall, I would come back mainly for the decor. It's an enjoyable spot to sit in and hang out solo or with friends. The noise level was not super loud but also the bar was not entirely full when I was there. Despite service falling short of expectations for me, I'll give them 5 stars and would go back to see if things are different when you're more than a party of one. Also, their menu states a no photos policy. I snuck some in because how can you not want to document this pretty place?

Stopped by Monsieur on a Friday night after a show at the Orpheum and was delighted that after a short wait outside, we were seated in a space against the back wall which gave us a good view of the entire bar. I'm a big Baz Luhrmann fan so was really excited to check this place out. The good: The decor was immaculate and I loved the vibe/style of all the staff. The ketchup served with the fries is the best ketchup I've ever had..would recommend getting the fries just to experience the ketchup! The meh: The music was good but maybe a tad too loud..on a busy night like it was, everyone there had to shout to be heard. My friend and I sitting across from each other had to repeat ourselves multiple times to hear each other and I only heard about 20% of what our 2 servers said at any given point they were checking in on us. We also just weren't impressed with the drinks which really surprised me. I ordered The Vesper and my friend had The Superstar. I was convinced they actually brought me The Lemon as liquor and lemon were the only two notes I tasted and my drink was supposed to have grapefruit. The woman next to me had an identical drink and when I asked her what she ordered, she told me it was The Lemon. I eventually told our server that I thought I might have been given the wrong drink and clarified that I wanted the Vesper. She was very sweet and brought me out a new drink that was exactly the same much to my surprise! Me and the woman next to me got a big kick out of this and winded up tasting each other's drinks and really couldn't tell the difference. Just thought the drinks were a little basic compared to other options in the area. I hope they branch out in the future and come up with some unique signature drinks. Ultimately, I would come back here again for the ambiance but would plan to stick with wine (and maybe an order of fries for that ketchup!!)

Delicious, interesting cocktails in a magnificently decorated space that makes you feel as if you've been dropped into medieval times but...chic. Service is attentive and friendly!

The interior design + atmosphere was amazing and so well done, and the entire staff was excellent. However, the menu was somewhat disappointing. The drink selection was very small and weren't named to fit the medieval theme. It's a small detail but could've made this experience 5 stars if the menu was as intentionally curated as the rest of the bar. Sunken Harbor Club is a fantastic example of a drink menu that works well with the theme of the bar. Anyway, we stayed here for hours because we loved the atmosphere so much, and we would absolutely come back. We can only hope that in the future the drink menu will be updated :)

Amazing experience! The interior design is beautiful and the vibes are spectacular. The food and are drinks were so good and it was such a nice time!

Came here last month for my birthday on a Wednesday, around 6:30pm. Such a lovely ambiance and the staff were very friendly. We were given a booth which was great. It was not very busy so had no problem with getting a whole table and being able to talk. The decor is perfect, I had such a a wonderful time and will be back! Highly recommend!!

Yes, some goth vibes and good music even if it's not really an authentic gothic bar. Cocktails are okay. Cool speakeasy for a ny night out.

It ended up being a nice spot for a casual catch-up, though with a few mixed impressions. The space itself is cute and very much feels like a neighborhood bar. One of the things we liked most was that they have games available--we ended up playing Scrabble while waiting for our friend to arrive, which made the time go by quickly and added to the relaxed vibe. Happy hour prices are solid, and the fried pickles we shared were decent. I also had a watermelon cocktail that was refreshing and perfectly fine, if not particularly memorable. Service was a bit inconsistent. The bartender wasn't very warm or welcoming to us initially, though that changed once our friend--who is a regular--arrived. Overall, it's a comfortable spot to meet friends and hang out for a few hours, especially on a weekday like Thursday. That said, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to return, but I can see why it works well as a local neighborhood hang.

The chicken cutlet and chicken dumplings were fine but I probably wouldn't order them again. The wait staff weren't super attentive nor super warm, but they were efficient when we asked for water refills, etc. There was ample standing room at the bar while we waited for our friends, but the table/booth that we sat at was super narrow, I was knocking knees with my friend all night and generally felt squished.
