I'm not one to leave reviews (actually first Yelp review) , but I felt compelled to give this office the praise they deserve. I called the Friday before Easter to schedule an appointment for my 91 year old father. They were able to give me an appointment for the next Tuesday. The receptionist took into consideration my father's age and made sure he would be given extra time. As he was doing the tests, the technician was very patient and caring. It took awhile for my dad to understand what he needed to do and a few times the tests had to be redone. At one point they even had to call the doctor to come assist. Through it all, they were extremely understanding and patient. This was exactly the type of office that I was looking to take my elderly dad to. DEFRAUDING a 19-year-old. My son walked into LA Optometry in Montebello yesterday, asked what the costs would be for a contact lens exam and fitting. He was told for $75.00 he would receive a contact exam, fitting, and training. He had just taken an eye exam two months ago, so he brought his eye prescription with him. After taking the test and getting fitted for the contacts, he was charged $145.00. When asked why it had doubled, their answer to him was "we had to give you two eye exams". So basically they're committing FRAUD, telling customers one price and charging you another after the fact. Their staff should have made it very clear to my son, that he would get charged for two eye exams from the start. That they would need to retest his eyes and test a second time for contacts separately. That was never explained to him. If we had known from the start, he could have simply returned to his original Optometrist and not have gotten scammed by adults who know better. So much for helping local businesses. We'll NEVER return, and we'd strongly recommend to anyone thinking of using their business to have the price written down before you get charged double. read more

Dr. Raymundo Garza and Albert Tien haven't actually seen me in a very long time. I continue to support this business because I've been coming here for over 10 years. My recent eye exam was very thorough. My eyes were dilated and I was a out of sorts while looking for a new pair of glasses. I settled on a beautiful pair of Coach glasses. The shock came when I saw the bill and was charged $100 per lens. Plus extra charges for the coating applied to the lens. I like this practice and will continue to support them. My advice to all patients is to make sure you need all those extras before you sign the order. read more

The only reason I found this place was because my parents got fitted for their frames here. I originally was trying to get an appointment with the optometrist that had seen me before, but her office was closed for the day, so my mom recommended I try this place. And I'm glad I did. They saw me without hesitation. Very pleasant staff and doctor! The doctor was very honest about what I did and DIDN'T need...unlike my previous optometrist, who sold me on how I was in dire need of bifocals. I'm glad my vision wasn't as bad as it was originally made out to be. Anyway, I went in for a contact fitting. Honestly, nothing beats glasses (except good vision), in regards to different contact brands and comfort. They tell you to take a pair of contacts they fit you for, on a trial run first before they actually place the order for your contacts...just in case you change your mind. I'm still debating if I want them now after wearing them for a bit. I'll probably end up ordering anyway! Thank you guys for a great customer experience! read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Tien and his staff - I don't particularly like going to get my eyes checked but Dr. Tien put me at ease with his easy-going demeanor and wealth of knowledge about eye conditions. They also have a good selection of frames, some designer, but also stylish options at reasonable prices. My husband and I are now going regularly. Would recommend highly. read more

I've been going to this place for the past 3 years and was always pleased with their service and product. Now they're under new ownership and a new name called LA Optometry. I should've known that the service was going to be poor when I arrived for my yearly eye exam. The music was bumping in the office and the staff was behind the counter singing away taking about music and artist. No eye contact when I was given the new patient info form. When it was time to see the optometrist, a gentleman introduced himself as the fill-in because the new Optometrist/Owner had injured her foot and he was filling in for her (this explained the unprofessionalism at the front desk). The eye exam was a supper fast and out I went. Now it was time to order the glasses for the new prescription. This is when I found out that LA Optometry no longer stocks the frames that my VSP insurance covers 100%. All the frames they had will come with a cost (their reasoning was that VSP approved frames isn't covered by a warranty). I explained that I still have everyone of prescribed glasses that were VSP covered. It was one disappointment after another, and to top it off, I ordered transitional lenses which I didn't get. The assistant was insistent that I didn't order transitional. It was at this point that I realized the need to find a new Optometrist, no reason to argue the point that may turn out to be another disappointment. read more

My wife has a serious phobia when it comes to eyes. Can't do contacts, can't use eyedrops, can't listen to someone else talking about contacts or eyedrops, and a stray eyelash could result in something close to a panic attack. So, suffice it to say, going to the optometrist is not high on her list of things she enjoys doing. Enter Dr. Tien, who was not only extremely skilled and knowledgeable, but also unbelievably patient, sympathetic and caring. The exam probably took a lot longer than he expected when we booked our appointment, but there was never a sense of rushing or stress. It was a very good experience, and she ended up with a great pair of glasses. Strongly recommend anyone in need of an exam, a new pair of glasses or any other optometric need - especially those who like to interact with a kind and genuine human being rather than being a number in a clinic - to go see Dr. Tien. read more

Formerly Empire Optometric Center. DO NOT GO HERE. One of the machines was broken, so only one eye was measured on one of the tests. Neither the assistant nor the doctor seemed qualified. I´m still not sure who examined me: it´s not the guy in the photos on their site. They made me wait for the so-called doctor to come, it seemed like he had a job elsewhere and was doing a cash-on-the-side deal. Totally shady. They examined me for about five minutes, contrasting to a reputable place where the exam can last 20 or 25 minutes. Not thorough in any way. The prescription was off, bad from the start, my vision was never right for almost a year, with twingy pain. Finally I went to a real optometrist and now I can see 20/20 again. I had slightly imperfect vision with the glasses that my previous optometrist gave me, so I went to Empire Optometry to get a new exam. I was very impressed with Dr. Tien's patience and thoroughness. Thanks to his especially detailed exam, I ended up with a more precise prescription than I had with my previous optometrist. They did a great job in training me to put in my contacts. It was really difficult and I took a long time but they were really patient and kept giving me pointers. I would highly recommend you get your eyes checked here. There's a lot of reasonably priced frames as well. Overall, it was definitely a positive experience. I had a great experience with Dr. Tien.He is such an amazing doctor. I was referred by my friend Lily who actually works there. Dr. Tien took his time to examine my eyes. After coming in the summer with my daughter I finally came in last week to get my own eyes checked. Dr. Tien is one of my favorite Optometrist, I cannot stress enough how thorough he is and takes his time with you. After seeing other eye doctor's that rush through the exams just to get rid of you it was very refreshing to go to a doctor who doesn't do that. Dr. Tien is very professional and super friendly, I would recommend him to anyone. In my last review I gave him 4 stars because I didn't care for his selection of frames, but luckily this time I found a cute purple cat eyed frame that I absolutely loved. I look forward to coming back next year for my next exam. read more

i cant even give a star, my experience was beyond awful and I want to share my experience because they hold our personal information and it's quiet scary that the poeple they have under staff has access to this. Ive been prior , a year ago or so for a consult, the doctor was so great and his receptionist at the time were very professional and courteous. I had a great experience. I broke my glasses and wanted to replace them , so i called in to just go in and select and they can bill my insurance, ( mind you I have a busy schedule so all I wanted was to replace my glasses), so I callin to make the appointment just to go take a look at the glasses and get fitted, the receptionist, cuts me off immediately and tell me Im due for a consult anyway so to come in, I said no all I want is the glasses, and she kept insisting very rudely,until finally i was stern and said NO! I just want to come in for glasses, she said ok, there was also a question I asked because I did not receive my contacts and they billed, anyway I just wanted my copay back from services that I never received. $45 buks ONLY, and they made the biggest deal, stating that I work in insurance and I should know how this goes and that they would have the manger call me back regarding this matter. I never received a call. Went in next day, got my glasses fitted, the receptionist was still rude, the assistant was actually couteous, fitted my glassed, easy peasy, paid my copay, as Im getting ready to leave I ask the receptionsist again if the manager was in to discuss getting my 45 refund for the contacts, she was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo rude and told me no she wasnt there nor was the doctor. That they would come back at 1pm, so I asaid ok ill call. I call and she again tells me there not availbale that ythey went to lunch, so I finally just go back in again because on the phone she was so rude and would not let me talk at all, I go in and ask to see if the manger and doctore is there andshe says, again, no. So I advised I woudl wait,I asked how long it would be to wait, she states: "THERE GONE FOR THE DAY".. so I said you would l=just let me wait till you closed??? and she said ... "yeah..." I have never experienced another person treating another being in such manner no matter the circumstances, The receptionist walked through the back door as I was getting in my car staring at me like she was going to beat me up. SERIOUSLY. Honestly Im still bothered because they have my personal information and she works there... the doctor calls me to tell me , btw I have not met or talked to the doctor through this whoel process, so he finally calls and tells me to pick up my ciopay that they will not be giving me any services, that his staff complained stating I was rude and this big lie, I was shocked but I left it alone because theres no point in going back and fourth, What was done to a patient of his was humiliating and for the doctor to not investigate properly and after I told him to review the cameras to show how she went after me, omg, I didnt even get an apology. I would never receommend anyone to go here. Please go take your insurance elsewhere.. this is not a family oriented nor courteous place. read more
