Our family ordered the shrimp quesadillas, plain quesadillas, chicken verde enchiladas, and the chicken flauta plate. The quesadillas were really good with that yummy queso blanco that made them extra tasty. The chicken verde was a little different since the chicken seemed cooked in red sauce and then topped with salsa verde, but it was still good. The margaritas weren't very strong, but the food overall was delicious. It would be helpful to have a sign when you first walk in letting guests know to seat themselves, because that part was a little confusing. Called order in and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes for pick up...arrived in 15 minutes and sat in drive thru line for 20 minutes longer and line never moved ...so went inside and asked about it and paid (big mistake) and then proceeded to wait another 18-20 minutes before getting food...when my wife asked a question to the girl in the pink shirt about why did the order take so long...she replied "well what did you want me to do"...instead of an explanation of some sort! No apologies or anything! Sad Sad...especially when we frequent the place...hate to say it but not anymore! Met an old friend for a late lunch, first time visiting this restaurant although I've passed it many times on the way to the beach. Inside, it's very pretty, small with about 20 tables and booths. There's a tiny bar in the corner. The floors are tile and the walls are blue with a lot of nautical and beach decor. On this Wednesday after noon it was fairly busy, with lots of families and workers eating and drinking. We were seated immediately and given menus - the menu is huge, and contains lots of breakfast selections as well as favorite Mexican lunch/dinner items. We ordered a beef taco salad and a cheese enchilada plate along with sodas to drink. We munched on complimentary tortilla chips and salsa (fiery) while we waited for our food. The meals came out quickly, large portions and tasty beans/rice. The taco salad had a crisp shell with more beans/beef than lettuce, but guac and sour cream plus cheese. The enchiladas were good, not quite hot enough to melt all the cheese inside the tortillas but they had a good flavor. Service was very friendly and efficient. Total for two entrees, two sodas was $34.16 before tip. By the way they charge a 3% upcharge for using plastic, so be aware. read more

As we draw towards the close of another year, from season to season, Fall (Autumn) to Winter; and now that the weather is finally cooling in South Texas, I find it appropriate to review what has become one of my favorite beachy Mexican restaurants: La Palma. It is literally on the corner where you turn to go to one of my favorite beaches on North Padre Island, Whitecap Beach. As such, it has been my go-to destination for epic Mexican brunches before or after heading there over the course of this Summer. It has great food! Really some of the best à la carte Mexican brunch in town (this is still technically "Corpus"). From what I can tell, most of the traditional Tex-Mex dishes look higher quality as well. Since most of my trips here are around mid-mornings, the crowd at those times is usually big mix of both tourists and "Islanders" (folks who live here). It's lively and a great place to "people watch". Never a dull moment. The service has always been great, IMO. Even when they are super busy. Nothing I can find to complain about there. Worth noting is that they will accommodate without any sense of awkwardness (no beans, rice or tortillas - no big deal!). In short, if you're ever in the area or on the way to the beach, consider stopping by here. I doubt you'll be disappointed. read more

I couldn't tell if it was open or not. As I swung the door open, there was mariachi coming from the tv, beautiful brightly colored walls and just a few customers seated. It's a very clean establishment inside. My server was very friendly, offering me a half off margarita or draft beer as the special today. Chips were white corn and the thin ones, which I prefer. The salsa was too spicy for me, but that's just preference and I'm in Texas after all. I ordered a pastor burrito and a side of charro beans. It's been years since I've had a pastor burrito and I was not disappointed. Elated is more like it! I was traveling solo, so I was in and out rather quickly. WE FINALLY FOUND A PLACE WITH BREAKFAST TACOS ON THE ISLAND. It's real close to a cluster of hotels and you must pick up or pay a visit.The tortillas are fresh and the eggs were well cooked. The red salsa was my favorite. I've noticed an island tax around here. Just that some items are pricier on the island. In my mind the island tax keeps these restaurants open year round. While visiting the area, we found this place on yelp and saw the had good reviews. We ordered the taco salad, chimichanga, and a chicken nuggets with fries for the kids. The food was spot on! The steak in both the taco salad and chimichanga was well marinated and tasted amazing. The veggies were fresh, the horchata was yummy, and the chips and salsa were awesome. The salsa did have a spicy kick, but it was perfect and you can tell was home made. The issue here was the service. Even though they were all staffed and the place was a bit small, you can tell they were disorganized and the service was very slow. We stopped in for breakfast and loved the food and friendly service. My wife enjoyed an omelet with hash browns and some of the tastiest refried beans we've ever had! I thoroughly enjoyed and demolished two chorizo and egg tacos and the plethora of sauces...3 squeeze bottles of spiciness and one cup of a hot concoction....yes I tried all of them and I was looking for more tacos to put them on.
