My drink order was taken within a few minutes and my food order when my drink arrived. Ceramic plates, metal utensils, paper napkins. Staff was friendly and courteous. Complimentary chips and salsa. I ordered the Mocajete. Not sure I spelled that correctly. Lots of meats and grilled veggies. Beef, chicken, sausage and shrimp. Inside is very unique and colorful. The chips were thick and crunchy, the salsa spicy but not too spicy. I liked it, The spicing and flavor of my food was Really Good! It was a lot of food for the price. This downtown spot is indeed filled with Kahlo and Kahlo-esque decor, bright and funky in the best way. The salsas rate from "pleasantly hot" to "make your head tingle" to "am I crying?" so be wise in your consumption. Service was attentive and pleasant, and the drinks were very reasonably priced. My family got basic fare. The green and red enchiladas both looked great (the green with chicken tasted great too), and my wife's "morning in a bowl" would have fit in at a fancy brunch. However, my Molcajete was the star of the show. Sizzling and filled with delicious meats, cheese, peppers, and onions. It was a serious amount of food, and everything was kept piping hot throughout the whole meal. Dessert was pretty legit too. The churros are big and perfect. Amazing Mexcian food found here!! The waitress was very kind to provide good recommendations to us - especially to recommend the Fajita dinner platter for 2 for our table (3 total)! She was spot on with the portion size because it was A LOT of food. It came with chicken, big gulf shrimp, thin fajita steaks, a few pieces of sausage, and grilled peppers and onions. We came here specifically because they clearly labeled their items as vegetarian (this is actually a huge win for Corpus Christi where several other Mexican restaurant menus left me guessing if I could even eat there). Overall, the food was decent and I appreciated that it came with extra salsa (the salsa girlies get it). We did run into two snafus: 1. They had 2 items in the vegetarian section and the one that I ordered (enchiladas) were no longer available which left me with the quesadilla. This was a bit of a bummer because I was really looking forward the enchiladas! 2. I got a margarita flight which was listed at $13. It was delicious! However, when the bill came, it was listed at $16 which took me by surprise. The server was apologetic and was able to figure it out with management. The interior is very inviting with lots of Frida Kahlo art. It does not look like they have a bar so we had soda and water options. I went with the tacos Al carbon. Visied a friend at Selena statue and after yelpin the area thought this place sounded good. We walked there and were told to sit where we'd like..I think. Silly me had my prescription shades and forgot my regular lenses but I could tell the paintings were beautiful. The good: - Service was friendly and prompt - Food came quickly - Coffee was good The medium: - The eggs tasted fine but were not cooked up to over medium as ordered. (Too soft). The bad: - barbacoa was very cold, full of fat, and oddly seasoned. - beans were not good flavor wise, not sure what they seasoned with but I didn't like it. Lukewarm. - potatoes were unseasoned, not crispy, and just sad. - Tortillas were flavorless and not hot. - Price wasn't too bad ($20), but I ended up going somewhere else to get food I would eat and that was much better tasting, larger portions, and it was $19.
