I've been here a handful of times. Visit 1: carne guisada plate ordered through the drive-thru, delicious and love convenience. Visit 2: dined in and ordered carne asada plate, delicious. Visit 3: got breakfast thru the drive thru, chilaquiles with egg mixed in, no salsa ranchera They made the corn tortilla chips very soggy and there were ONIONS which I do not like and which was not disclosed, only ate a quarter or the top layer of the plate. Visit 4: was sick with vomiting so got tortilla soup. Chicken was cooked but not tenderized. I liked the one from Cancun's better. Visit 5: brought hubby here. He commented that carne guisada was overcooked, I tasted and agreed. I put this place to the true test by ordering menudo... and they failed. Menudo tasted like they didn't wash tripas after parboiling them. Each bite was initially good follow up by an uncomfortable, dirty aftertaste. My verdict: not bad, just mid. I have never been there early enough to catch the breakfast which I hear is spectacular but for lunch and dinner was exceptionally good. This is a typical old town Mexican restaurant. Probably excellent food depending what you order but overall I classify it as good. Was there for breakfast. Lots of breakfast choices and a few non-typical ones like SPAM and eggs. This is probably one of the few Mexican restaurants where you can get nopales as a side dish. You can order either flour tortillas or in house-made corn tortillas or the store bought kind of corn tortillas. Service is fast and no nonsense. Careful of the table red hot sauce as it may able to burn off all infection in your body as it's super spicy! Place is busy and popular and relatively clean looking. They have some aguas frescas and Mexican sweet bread as well. Overall a solid place but like most traditional Mexican restaurants, you aren't there for the coffee. It's a watered down brown beverage that is hot but relatively tasteless. Early birds hoping to get on the road can get that breakfast starting at 6am! read more

Been around in Corpus for a while, last time I was here was close to 10 years ago. It's open late, cheap, and non pretentious. This is a "hole in the wall" type of place. It was good, not great. I had flautas con pollo (chicken taquitos) and my girlfriend had the special of the day- cheese enchiladas with rice & beans (subbed the taco for a tostada with beans). I also had a margarita, which at first was just okay, but as I drank it more, I fully appreciated it (and I left with a little Buzz, which was nice). I opted for the nachos supreme with beef fajita. I felt like for the portion, the price was great! They were very generous with the sour cream and guacamole, which is clutch. We decided to try this legacy restaurant on a quiet humid Sunday night. The restaurant has several locations throughout the city but this one seemed rated the best. The parking lot was crowded and small, lots of traffic on Airline Rd. We parked and went in to a huge crowd waiting by the door and cashier, not a very good use of space as people were waiting to pay and others waiting to be seated. We sat down near the waitress station and looked at the extensive menu. Breakfast is served all day plus they have seafood, salads and numerous Mexican favorites. We gave our drink orders and also ordered a guacamole as an appetizer. This restaurant is quite small and rather cramped; the dining areas are split by a partition going down the center. The interior is showing its age with peeling walls and booths, damaged linoleum floors and tiny serving area. It was clean, however. We ordered mixed fajitas, enchiladas, taco salad and carne guisada. The appetizer of guacamole was fine, fresh but quite bland. The entrees were ok, but nothing stood out as above average. Plates are generous, refried and charro beans are good as were the flour tortillas. Service was also very friendly and efficient. Nothing special to report and I don't know that we'll be back. Total cost for one appetizer, four entrees and four teas was $73.76 before tip. read more

Menu was quite large and a bit overwhelming as there are numerous combos to choose from (not necessarily a bad thing) We were pleased to find the salsa flavorful and the chips fresh. We tried both the chicken and steak fajitas and the dishes were huge- enough for two standard eaters. The homemade tortillas were not quite as good as my grandmother's (our standard comparison), but good nonetheless. Five stars because prices are very reasonable, and food was exactly what you'd expect. Nothing fancy, just solid cuisine. When I went to the usually rude cashier to pay, I had to ask for an itemized check (which they normally won't give) When I looked at it, I noticed that they did in fact charge me for the onions.
