Got charged for a different menu item I didn't order that was priced higher than what I got (what I ordered was $11 on the menu and my bill said $16.99, no big deal, should be an easy fix). When I showed them my bill and the mistake they didn't seem to believe me. I even showed them the menu and the price it should have been and they said the menu was wrong. The manager tried to gaslight me into believing I ordered the one that was 16.99, but there is a clear difference on the menu description because the more expensive comes with a lot more toppings, my dish I ate did not have all those add ons. Why is it on the menu if it is wrong? Makes me think they are up charging people wrongly. Either that, or the stubborn manager just didn't want to admit he was wrong. Really unprofessional experience. I have come in here countless times over the years and was really disappointed to be treated like that after all the money I've given this place. In all my years of going to restaurants I don't think I've ever quite experienced something like this. I guess if I ever come here again I'll take a picture of my meal incase they try to upcharge me for something I didn't order. (I wont be back regardless) read more

Had dinner there last night in the bar. I only give the review two stars because as usual the food was good, fast, plentiful, and the beer was cold and the servers and staff were attentive and professional. I removed three stars because of the company in the bar that the restaurant manager ignored. I'm no shrinking violet, I was soldier for 22 years and served in combat. I use salty language. My wife works for the VA, around combat veterans. She's a counselor. She's been known to use salty language. Both of us know what the the appropriate setting is though, and when it isn't. There were two couples in the bar when we walked in. The manager obviously knew them. They are regulars. One of the couples was a little embarrassed by the other couple. The other couple was the one I can't believe they let sit in the restaurant. They were drunker than anything I've seen in public in years. At 8 PM. In the course of our dinner they used the N word repeatedly. Stated that "those people" were nothing more than silver back gorilla's and monkeys. They talked about having oral sex, and used very descriptive pejorative terms for both the male and female body parts. They talked about defecating all over one another and how to prevent it by insertion of various objects. Numerous times the drunk woman tried to engage us in conversation and we ignored her. She told her friends, I hope they're just passing through, wouldn't want them to think Hoosiers were drunk and crazy... The other couple kept telling them to leave us alone. We were more than happy to continue ignoring them. Frankly, I don't care what they want to do at home, but in a public setting, the restaurant owner should have told them they needed to leave or calm down. More scary was the fact they went outside and drove home. After they left, the woman from the other couple offered us an apology and said she had never seen them like that. I looked at her and said there was no excuse for the way they acted, drunk or sober. She said I know, usually when we talk about those "other" people, we are sure of who is around and that they won't be offended. I just stared at her. I guess it's OK to be a despicable human being when you're around other despicable human beings. But around others, we should pretend to be decent folk. When they left the manager smiled and said see you next week. As we left I told the manager we wouldn't be back. I told him what happened, exactly what was said. I know they can't control who comes into their restaurant, and they can't be the morality police. But they can ensure that guests don't imbibe too much and insult other diners. That manager failed miserably to ensure the atmosphere was a family atmosphere. If I could find a corporate office number I'd call it and report it. But I can't. So I'll post publicly. Apparently whoever owns this restaurant doesn't want anyone contacting their corporate office. I understand why. Called today to ask who the owners were and find out how to get in touch with them. The Manager refused to provide the info. Same manager I spoke with last night. Apparently they don't care very much about an inclusive atmosphere for their patrons. read more

First let me say I noticed the cleaning and sanitizing right off the bat when I walked in Customer service was phenomenal not just to me but to other customers also Every one is wearing masks and socially distanced. Now to the food. I ordered 4 tacos carne asada . I swear I'm not a pig ‍ i just thought they be small and I was hungry. Holy cow when the tacos came I was impressed Awesome portion sizes and 2 were enough for me. Meat was tender and tasty not dry or hard at all. Grateful I get to take the rest home to Chicago. This place all in all felt very welcoming and the staff are on point from food, cleaning, Covid precautions and you can see their smiles in their eyes. My wife and I tried this place in Sellersburg solely on the notion that we wanted Mexican food, and I can tell you unhesitatingly that we were happy we did. The location itself is nothing to write home about, but the food was very, very good. We've been back twice since our first visit, ordered different dishes, and have not been disappointed. We both love Mexican food and have had the spectrum of restaurants and food trucks from "really good" to "nah, won't go back", and this place falls under the "Really good!" side of things. We have been frequenting El Nopal since their opening in Sellersburg many years ago. Originally El Nopal was plenty of food for a good price. After many visits we were kind of burned out on the menu offerings. We found ourselves visiting less and less. Additionally as time went by menu prices steadily increased to the point we felt we could get better meals elsewhere for the same or less money. Today we visited for lunch for the first time in months. Unfortunately we found the same old same old. I'm not slamming El Nopal, it's fine as long as you know going in that nothing changes other than the prices. Yes, once again we found in the last few months most all our favorite items had increased in price. I realize restaurants have to raise prices occasionally, but there comes a time in my mind, that the food and portions offered just aren't worth the price charged. My wife and I often discuss our check total (from all restaurants we visit) and how it compares to that particular restaurants competitors. El Nopal is pretty consistent, so if you've been to one of their other locations, you can be assured of vitually the same experience. The food is typical, Americanized Mexican fare. El Nopal dishes typically avoid vegetables and there is a heavy emphasis on rice and beans. I've had several very good dishes here, including the Mole enchiladas, quesadilla roja, and chile relleno among them. The chips are fresh and the salsa is alright. They typically have good drink specials; particularly the margaritas. I probably wouldn't seek it out, but if you're in the area, El Nopal is pretty good! read more

Sadly, service has really gone downhill recently. During our last 2 visits we had the same waiter who only checked on us once for refills, when it was time for our check. I would be a lot more understanding if they were really busy but, it was 3:00pm on a Saturday.....and our waiter could easily be seen standing in the back, chatting it up with his co-workers. My job has me in Sellersburg for training and I've joined colleagues at El Nopal a few times. I find it adequate, but not something I'd seek out on my own. Their table "salsas" come in two varieties: flavorless tomato sauce and very mild. Fortunately they keep El Yucateco hot sauce on each table, which spices the salsas up nicely. The tortilla chips seem fresh enough, but the tortillas themselves are mass-produced and nothing special. The steak fajitas are okay. The meat was not very well seasoned. While I haven't tried their tacos, I have seen them and the hard shells are laughable; they are pretty much the boxed shells you'd expect to see at Taco Bell or something. The beans and rice are both up to scratch, so that's a plus. I have found one dish at El Nopal that I recommend: the spinach and mushroom quesadilla (#8 on the lunch specials and I think it is called the quesadilla de espinacas elsewhere on the menu). They do not skimp on the mushrooms or spinach and the tortilla is cooked to a nice golden color. In addition to some truly gigantic portions of fountain drinks, they carry bottled coke imported from Mexico and possibly some Jarritos, though I wouldn't swear to it. I don't think they have any aguas frescas. They also carry beer, but since I have only been on lunch breaks, I have not had the opportunity to imbibe. read more

Always getting something wrong. Got the Fried Burrito to go today. Big mistake, got all the way home, opened my lunch to see they did not bother to actually fry the burrito. Really? Drove back to have El Nopal replace the order. Got back home and realized I did not get a replacement, they took the 30 minute old burrito, threw it in the deep fryer and gave it back to me. All the way back again, I guess the third time is a charm. It only took one hour, three trips, and $10 dollars in gas to get it right. This is an excellent location for good mexican food. The staff is always welcoming, and the seating area is warm and inviting. Prices are great and you always get plenty of food.
