The food is flavorful & more authentic tasting than most places around. Staff is very friendly. Their tacos & burritos are great!

Perfect place to get carryout on a lazy Friday night! Food is always great and service is quick. I usually order tacos but this time, I wanted to try something different, so I ordered the steak dinner plate. The dish is very filling and tasty. It comes with tortilla, rice, fried beans, sauteed onions and grilled jalapeño. Steak was okay, they could have added a little bit of seasoning. But overall, it's still good for the price. The next time we get something at Taco City, I would probably just stick with my taco orders.

Finally took the opportunity to check out the newest place in Sellersburg to offer Mexican cuisine. Located in the old Quizno's on the main drag, just off of I-65, Taco City celebrates the culture from your first step in. Colorful, hand-carved silhouettes adorn each chair back, and brightly painted walls feature artwork of iconic scenes from Mexico. Ample seating options are available as they have extended dining area into the neighboring suite. We arrived for a late lunch do the crowd had dispersed so I was s little put off by the lack of attention from the server. She assumed we had been there before and made excuses for each of our requests. However, the food made up for the poor service. Chips and salsa are provided free of charge. The salsa was mild and pretty smooth. I prefer more chunks of onions and a bit more kick to my salsa, it was still good. Hubby had the duo of American steak tacos topped with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. I had the Mexican tacos with ground beef, cilantro and onions. Both were seasoned well and were very tasty. Taco City offers Coke products but does not have any tea or coffee. I hope the community and surrounding area will support this local small business. Getting the server issue will be important to their success. Taco City is open Sunday thru Thursday 10 AM to 9 PM and Friday and Saturday 10 AM - 10 PM.

Just had the new breakfast! Supreme omelets were great. Bacon was not that salty but good. Grits needed salt but they were very creamy. We added butter. Toast was a little burned. The strawberry french toast was Everything!!! It had that sweet icing over it...you didnt even need syrup. I will be back! 4 of us ate and ate a bunch of food! Walked out full and happy. I will love when they get chorizo and eggs for breakfast! They are trying out the "american breakfast" first before they bring in the chorizo and eggs authentic mexican breakfast. We took our left overs home and had them for dinner. So forget that "other" more expensive place down the street and go to Taco City!! Friday-Sunday 7:30am - 10:30am

This little Mexican Restaurant opened in a building previously occupied by Quiznos. Small shop with both eat in and take out. Just a few tables available, so eat in seating is limited. Standard Mexican fare offering tacos, burritos, nachos, enchiladas, fajitas and dinners. Tacos are $2 to $2.25 depending on style ordered. Burritos $7, Nachos $7 and Three Enchiladas run $5.99 to $6.99 depending on type ordered. Fajitas cost $9.99. Dinner Plates cost $10 to $11. No beer or alcohol, and drinks are in bottles only $2. Tortas and Pambazos (both sandwiches) are $7. So this was my first visit and I needed to study the menu prior to ordering take out. While I was deciding, I observed a server making fresh guacamole for table service. I thought I've got to have some of that. More later on the guacamole. I ordered 3 Tacos, one carnitas, one chorizo and one Campechanos (mixed steak and chorizo). The carnitas was just ok, fairly tasteless. The chorizo was very tasty but extremely salty. The Campechanos was the best. The steak was tender and the saltiness of the chorizo was somewhat subdued mixed with the steak. I ordered an order of the Guacamole to go. Unfortunately my guacamole ($3.50) was not the same guacamole I watched the server make fresh by hand. The guacamole I was given looked like something sold in the supermarket. It was thin and runny. The taste was ok, but nothing like what I was anticipating after watching the server make an order for table service. I was very let down when I got home and opened my guacamole. I wouldn't order it to go again. If your looking for decent food at a good price, this place will fill the bill. However there is better Mexican food in Southern Indiana. I'll probably stop in again and try something different.

The atmosphere is fun and lighthearted, like a backyard gathering. There's plenty of outdoor patio seating on nice nights. The chips were fresh and tasty, the salsa was lovely, with a warming medium heat to it. I highly recommend the Spicy Pina'Rita (get the Grande!). The fact my server brought me a lemon water also without me having to ask was much appreciated. The elotes was perfect. Don't skip the lime. ‍ It is an incredible balance of sweet and heat, served at the perfect temperature. The street tacos were also good. The barbacoa was my favourite because it was the most juicy and flavorful. The flavor of the carnitas was so subtle it was almost entirely eclipsed by the onions. If I had any critique it would be to go easier on the cebollas or longer on marinating the pork. The carne asada was good, but I will probably not get it again simply because the barbacoa was really the stand out for me. The rice was light and fluffy, and the black beans were almost sweet at first with a nice earthy finish. Every staff member I encountered was super friendly and welcoming and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here.

I wish I could join the chorus of 4 and 5 star reviews. Looking for a restaurant with atmosphere?…read more You won't find it here. My first warning was the decrepit sign over the door in a dilapidated strip center. But, as the saying goes, "don't judge a book by its cover." The food was good. Not great. My usual order is fajitas, this time a chicken, steak, and chicken combo. The plate was served sizzling. Served with 3 small tortillas and the usual fixin's. El Mexicano doesn't serve any beans other than refried, so, no option for black beans, pinto or borracho. The shrimp in the dish were perfect, the chicken was dried out and there were about 6 little strips of steak. The grilled onions and peppers were very good. My wife's shrimp dish was very salty. She prefers the interpretation of Shrimp Mexicana at others Mexican restaurants. And for good measure, because we asked for some lime to squeeze on the shrimp and they tacked on $2 to the bill. But what really resulted in my barely average review was the cleanliness of El Mexicano; or rather, the lack of it. You'll notice a yellow bucket that hangs on the wall in the dining room, yes, in full sight of diners. I witnessed a server drop something on the floor, grab a cloth from the bucket and clean the floor. Then, she returned the cleaning cloth to the bucket. Moments later, another server used the same cloth to clean tables! The health department would have a hissy fit if they saw this. Worse, when I mentioned this to the manager, he was indifferent. I know he understood me, he just didn't care. If the manager is so indifferent to such an obvious health hazard, I can't fathom what goes on in the kitchen. El Mexicano is a "one and done" for us.

So, we simply had to stop in. It's interesting to note there's a large sign on the street, but no signage on the actual building. We were seated promptly and drinks were ordered. Chips and salsa were served. Thick, crisp chips and a hearty salsa. Not spicy, but good flavor. My wife ordered a taco salad. A substantial shell, stuffed with rice, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, chicken and topped with cheese and avocado. She brought half of it home. I ordered two flour tacos, one with chicken, one with steak. The tortillas were a bit of a disappointment. They were thick and barely heated. But the tortillas were stuffed. Chicken or beef, lettuce, tomato, and some grilled onions. Tasty. The only "fail" was the side of guacamole. To my taste, it was bland, lacking garlic, lime, any real seasoning.
