How I discovered Taco City: I took the exit off I-65 heading for Cracker Barrel, went past it and needed to turn around. So I pulled in this parking lot to turn around and realized it was a Mexican restaurant, which sounded much better than Cracker Barrel anyway. A very nice discovery! The dining room is bright, clean, and cheerfully decorated. It is also much larger inside than it appears from the outside. The menu is much larger than I had expected. So many choices, ranging from authentic options like tongue to vegetarian options. I ordered a cheese enchilada dinner with sides of guacamole and bean dip. I loved the guacamole, it had a good texture and was a little spicy, definitely some jalapeño. Beans and rice were excellent. The rice had good flavor. My enchiladas were tasty. Servings are very generous. Prices are reasonable. I'll be happy to stop here for lunch or dinner when I am traveling between Indianapolis and Louisville read more

We don't get to Sellersburg often, and we passed this Taco City on the way home and decided to stop for lunch. You enter into a typical, colorful dining area and we were treated and seated promptly. We ordered a couple of Coronas. I tried a Familiar, a dark Corona. Full bodied, great flavor. I'll have to look for it at Total Wines. Our chips and salsa came quickly. We really liked the salsa and asked if it was made in house. Nope. It's Julio's from the jar. They do make a mild, medium and hot house salsa. The hot, a combo of jalapeño and Serrano didn't taste hot at first, but snuck up on me after a few minutes. My fajita dinner was served up as hot as I've ever had. In fact, I couldn't hold the tortillas for several minutes! A bit on the greasy side, but the chicken was served as good sized chunks. Lots of peppers & grilled onions. Interestingly, no guacamole is served with the fajita fixins. My wife ordered a shrimp dish, again, a tad greasy and slightly overdone shrimp. Her biggest complaint was the onions being over charred. Not a problem for me. I thought the grilled veggies and "grease" gave both dishes great flavor. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to return. But I would ask them to go a tad easier on the oil. read more

I would have liked more spice, but the green salsa helped with that. They use mozzarella cheese, which isn't my preferred cheese for Mexican, but it was still good. Perfect place to get carryout on a lazy Friday night! Food is always great and service is quick. I usually order tacos but this time, I wanted to try something different, so I ordered the steak dinner plate. The dish is very filling and tasty. It comes with tortilla, rice, fried beans, sauteed onions and grilled jalapeño. Steak was okay, they could have added a little bit of seasoning. But overall, it's still good for the price. Finally took the opportunity to check out the newest place in Sellersburg to offer Mexican cuisine. Located in the old Quizno's on the main drag, just off of I-65, Taco City celebrates the culture from your first step in. Colorful, hand-carved silhouettes adorn each chair back, and brightly painted walls feature artwork of iconic scenes from Mexico. Ample seating options are available as they have extended dining area into the neighboring suite. We arrived for a late lunch do the crowd had dispersed so I was s little put off by the lack of attention from the server. She assumed we had been there before and made excuses for each of our requests. However, the food made up for the poor service. Chips and salsa are provided free of charge. The salsa was mild and pretty smooth. I prefer more chunks of onions and a bit more kick to my salsa, it was still good. Hubby had the duo of American steak tacos topped with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. I had the Mexican tacos with ground beef, cilantro and onions. Both were seasoned well and were very tasty. Taco City offers Coke products but does not have any tea or coffee. I hope the community and surrounding area will support this local small business. Getting the server issue will be important to their success. Taco City is open Sunday thru Thursday 10 AM to 9 PM and Friday and Saturday 10 AM - 10 PM. read more

Just had the new breakfast! Supreme omelets were great. Bacon was not that salty but good. Grits needed salt but they were very creamy. We added butter. Toast was a little burned. The strawberry french toast was Everything!!! It had that sweet icing over it...you didnt even need syrup. I will be back! 4 of us ate and ate a bunch of food! Walked out full and happy. I will love when they get chorizo and eggs for breakfast! They are trying out the "american breakfast" first before they bring in the chorizo and eggs authentic mexican breakfast. This little Mexican Restaurant opened in a building previously occupied by Quiznos. Small shop with both eat in and take out. Just a few tables available, so eat in seating is limited. Standard Mexican fare offering tacos, burritos, nachos, enchiladas, fajitas and dinners. Tacos are $2 to $2.25 depending on style ordered. Burritos $7, Nachos $7 and Three Enchiladas run $5.99 to $6.99 depending on type ordered. Fajitas cost $9.99. Dinner Plates cost $10 to $11. No beer or alcohol, and drinks are in bottles only $2. Tortas and Pambazos (both sandwiches) are $7. So this was my first visit and I needed to study the menu prior to ordering take out. While I was deciding, I observed a server making fresh guacamole for table service. I thought I've got to have some of that. More later on the guacamole. I ordered 3 Tacos, one carnitas, one chorizo and one Campechanos (mixed steak and chorizo). The carnitas was just ok, fairly tasteless. The chorizo was very tasty but extremely salty. The Campechanos was the best. The steak was tender and the saltiness of the chorizo was somewhat subdued mixed with the steak. I ordered an order of the Guacamole to go. Unfortunately my guacamole ($3.50) was not the same guacamole I watched the server make fresh by hand. The guacamole I was given looked like something sold in the supermarket. It was thin and runny. The taste was ok, but nothing like what I was anticipating after watching the server make an order for table service. I was very let down when I got home and opened my guacamole. I wouldn't order it to go again. If your looking for decent food at a good price, this place will fill the bill. However there is better Mexican food in Southern Indiana. We have passed this place so many times and finally decided to stop in. We were so surprised. The salsa is very mild but good. The guacamole is exactly what you want- lime, garlic, and salt, so good. The chips are crispy and good. They were out of margaritas so we had a draft beer. Limited selection of tap beer but a good selection of bottled Mexican beers. My husband had 2 different tacos, we liked both of them a lot. You choose between American style- lettuce, cheese, sour cream or Mexican style- onions and cilantro. I had shrimp enchiladas, Suprema style meaning you get red sauce on one end, green sauce on the other and queso in the middle of the two. It was so delicious. The shrimp were nicely cooked and had good flavor. My husband helped finish them after his tacos. The ranchero sauce is smokey, warm, and flavorful. I stopped in for lunch. I go the enchiladas. It reminds me of the good Mexican food I'd get in Arizona. They served with chips and salsa, which was great. Love that the small town of Sellersburg has this Mexican option. We went for lunch on a Saturday and it was very busy, including a soccer team taking the entire back room. It's bigger than I expected inside. I had thought this was an order-at-the-counter type of place because I had seen photos of the menu on a wall, so I was surprised that it's actually a sit-down restaurant with waitress service. (I assume the wall menu is for take-out ordering.) Service was very friendly and prompt. Lots of drink options from the standard fountain fare to bottled Mexican sodas in several flavors. Free chips and salsa. The menu has the standard Mexican dishes most of us expect to see, but also additional options. It seems pretty authentic, including a bilingual menu. We had a chicken quesadilla and a chicken burrito. The chicken was not white chicken breast meat, so I did not care for it because I don't like dark meat chicken - not the fault of the restaurant, just my personal preference.
