Lovely decor and friendly staff make your entry into this restaurant very fun, pleasant, and inviting. We were seated in one of the five booths and our drink order taken while chips and salsa were brought. The iced tea was very good and was served with a huge slice of lemon, freshly cut. The salsa was thin, but had lots of chunks of tomato, onions, and cilantro, which I adored. After looking through the menu, we decided to share a perfectly fair margarita which was huge when it came! My husband ordered veggie fajitas, and I decided to try the red posole with chicken. The food, when it came, was both beautiful and aromatic. It tasted just as good! My husband's veggie fajitas came on a sizzling platter, full of onions, bell peppers, zucchini, and carrots. They were steaming-hot and so delicious. The platter was accompanied by a plate full of rice and beans, as well as crema, guacamole, shredded lettuce, and tomato. My posole was rich and hot and full of posole (how many) and chicken. The broth was perfectly spiced, although not hot. And a plate full of veggies and accompaniments like seasoning and peppers came with it. I asked for some chopped onion as well because I love that. I dumped all of it into the posole and let it cook slightly as I ate. My husband got flour tortillas and I got corn, which were homemade and so very good! my posole was so good, but I had to take half of it home because it came in such a large bowl. (I like that they gave me a reusable plastic container to take home instead of Styrofoam as many restaurants do.) We saw some other diners' plates. The breakfast portions are huge, as are the burritos! I look forward to coming again to try more of the delicious food here! Notes: They do add a non-cash 4% charge to the bill if you use a credit card. Currently, it appears that all the staff are family, which is nice, but they are advertising for waitresses.

If you don't like this place, you never liked authentic Mexican food. This was an almost spiritual experience.

My smothered carne asada burrito was not good Staff was very nice. I likely will not visit again, too many good Mexican restaurants.

I grew up eating tamales from Grandma Carrillo. The town grandma. The food here was different than I've ever had. It was good, hot and well presented. BUT, We asked about the green chili there and got a sample to try. My brother and I know our stuff about green chili. We've never had green chili like theirs. It wasn't green chili in our sense of the word. It was more like tons of sour cream with flavorings in it. No heat and (in my opinion) kind of blah. The Chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was very different as well. Same sort cream base. When my brother and I first asked about the chili, in all honesty the waitress had no clue what we meant by green chili. I'm thinking that their versions are related to different recipes from different parts of Mexico. If that makes sense. but.. don't get me wrong, it was very good. Nice place to eat.. but give me some more common Mexican food. There was not ONE TAMALE in the menu. No sopapillas. No vermicelli. No chili con carne. Of your looking to try a different type of Mexican food, go here because it is tasty. I can NOT say I had a bad meal..... it was just something different.

Upon quick search online, this restaurant was only a stone's throw from the very food hall. And placing my order online was quite easy although since it was through a 3rd party app, for the restaurant to recognize my order took a minute (I called them after 10-15 minutes after I had placed my order and they fortunately had it in their system where they had already been working on it.) By the time I walked up to it, everything (two fish tacos, refried bean and elotes) were all nicely bagged and ready to go. Inside: Quite the ambience. What was most intriguing were the swing seats at the garage door that opens up at the street side (looking over Tejon Street. See photo I uploaded.) They are perfect place for kids to sit (although they might be (at the same time) dangerous if they are not careful as they can easily fall from them.) Spaciousness with lots of wooden feel. The lightings and tables/chairs all match to be harmonious. Employees/service: Friendlily greeted me upon approaching the kitchen entrance. One of them immediately handed me the food so there was absolutely no wait. Food: Quite good. Pescado tacos (2), refried beans (looked soupy at first and yet I realized that it was the perfect runny-ness when I took a bite and elotes with lots of flavors. All of them are good portions and the price points were at par. Whereas many will agree with me that this is not the most authentic Mexican place, decent/solid service, fun ambience and good/solid food are three main elements that make me say that I was quite happy that I got some food from Zocalo to satisfy my hangry-ness.
