This restaurant literally saved me from starvation caused by a nearby food hall where they didn't have much selection for food when I was hangry (hungry and angry to be precise!!) Upon quick search online, this restaurant was only a stone's throw from the very food hall. And placing my order online was quite easy although since it was through a 3rd party app, for the restaurant to recognize my order took a minute (I called them after 10-15 minutes after I had placed my order and they fortunately had it in their system where they had already been working on it.) By the time I walked up to it, everything (two fish tacos, refried bean and elotes) were all nicely bagged and ready to go. Inside: Quite the ambience. What was most intriguing were the swing seats at the garage door that opens up at the street side (looking over Tejon Street. See photo I uploaded.) They are perfect place for kids to sit (although they might be (at the same time) dangerous if they are not careful as they can easily fall from them.) Spaciousness with lots of wooden feel. The lightings and tables/chairs all match to be harmonious. Employees/service: Friendlily greeted me upon approaching the kitchen entrance. One of them immediately handed me the food so there was absolutely no wait. Food: Quite good. Pescado tacos (2), refried beans (looked soupy at first and yet I realized that it was the perfect runny-ness when I took a bite and elotes with lots of flavors. All of them are good portions and the price points were at par. Whereas many will agree with me that this is not the most authentic Mexican place, decent/solid service, fun ambience and good/solid food are three main elements that make me say that I was quite happy that I got some food from Zocalo to satisfy my hangry-ness. read more

This was such a fun spot, with amazing happy hour specials. We sat in a swing (more comfortable than I had anticipated) and enjoyed their chips and salsa, queso, and guacamole, along with a tasty guava margarita. They had $3 tacos, so I ordered two quesabirria and one chicken pipian (chicken and mole.) both exceeded expectations. I would have stopped by again, if I didn't have such a short visit. Poke nachos and the enchilada platter. The nachos were better than Waikiki (tuna sashimi was under the fried wontons as well). The fried wonton wrappers are thin and cooked just right. We were not full. Enchiladas were awesome, one of each cheese, chicken and beef. With red and green. Mom and dad would have loved it here. Spanish rice tasted like MomS. Nice place, TERRIBLE service. We were the first ones through the door and still waited about 35 minutes just to have our order taken. Then, after waiting another hour for our food, we repeatedly had to chase down waitstaff just to get basic things like lemon, salsa, tortillas, and refills. Surprisingly great. Elote is incredible, Molé chicken enchiladas were sweet and flavorful, and chips were perfect. Tortilla soup was hot and tasty. Salsa was on the bland side, but this place was next to Springhill Suites hotel and very convenient. We saved the salsa in fridge and ate it the next day. It tasted better after marinating. I don't usually leave reviews, but this experience was frustrating enough that I felt it was worth sharing. After we were seated, I noticed my drinking glass was visibly dirty. We waited over 25 minutes before finally flagging down a staff member to ask for a clean glass, place our food order, and order drinks. Instead of helping us, they ignored our request and eventually asked another server to assist us. What made the situation more frustrating was that the restaurant wasn't busy. The tables around us had already received their food, yet we still hadn't even been able to place our order. Later, we noticed our assigned server had been sitting and chatting with other staff members during that time. I'm not someone who likes to complain, but my family flew in to visit for the week, and this was one of the restaurants I was genuinely looking forward to. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing and left a poor impression of what should have been an enjoyable meal. read more

Four of us went here to eat dinner. The paper menus were worn out to the point you couldn't read them. The food quality has really gone downhill. I had enchiladas and they were much smaller than previously. Same with the fajita platter. Then I paid the check in cash and when I got home I noticed I was charged a credit card fee. The food is the only good thing I had to say about this restaurant. The service was decent, however there was no check in during our meal so we had no water. Even when we tried to call someone over, they seemed to have bat an eye. I also got their guava mimosa (do not recommend). Took our granddaughters to Zocalo for lunch and on the way, one granddaughter told me Mexican food was not her favorite. But they both enjoyed the tacos and had them customized to their liking. Our wait person, Grace, was very accommodating and even the owner/chef Sergio stopped by our table to chat. Great ambiance and the swings were a hit with the kids, too.
