Ok... I was raised in La Junta, Co. I grew up eating at a place called Mexico City Cafe. Totally a family run place for like 40 hrs that I know of. My father was a good chef. I grew up eating tamales from Grandma Carrillo. The town grandma. The food here was different than I've ever had. It was good, hot and well presented. BUT, We asked about the green chili there and got a sample to try. My brother and I know our stuff about green chili. We've never had green chili like theirs. It wasn't green chili in our sense of the word. It was more like tons of sour cream with flavorings in it. No heat and (in my opinion) kind of blah. The Chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was very different as well. Same sort cream base. When my brother and I first asked about the chili, in all honesty the waitress had no clue what we meant by green chili. I'm thinking that their versions are related to different recipes from different parts of Mexico. If that makes sense. but.. don't get me wrong, it was very good. Nice place to eat.. but give me some more common Mexican food. There was not ONE TAMALE in the menu. No sopapillas. No vermicelli. No chili con carne. Stopped into their restaurant on Maizeland for an early dinner, heard the food was good and wanted to try it. The staff was tentative, the restaurant was clean, and the menu had a lot of choices, but honestly, the food wasn't good and I've had better tasting Mexican food at other restaurants. Use your discretion eating here. The staff are friendly but the food is questionable. Am really disappointed cause this was our favorite local spot. BUT this unfortunately is not the first bad experience here. Last month we all got really sick after ordering take out here. We consistently are having items missing. And this time speaks for itself. I have had multiple people confirm that this indeed is mold on the tamale husk. We immediately returned all of our food and got our money back. Before even placing our order we knew this would be the last chance we could give eating here. Am really disappointed and grossed out. Edited to add: Received zero apology for this. The service was great! We were seated immediately upon entering. Our waiter had a good sense of humor too. The booths are tall so they blocked the chilly air and even though the restaurant was busy, we didn't hear a lot of the noise. Margaritas were okay, nothing spectacular but you do get to choose between the standard 20 oz or the larger 32 oz. Tried the mocajete which had a lot of meat in it. The one dish was large enough for two with lots of leftovers. Price was competitive with other Mexican restaurants in the area. Sorry no photos, we ate quickly. Will definitely return. read more

The chips came with salsa and refried beans to dip into. We tried the jalapeño margarita in a medium size and it was excellent. Nice ambiance. Menu was across the board with many things (especially fish) dishes being far overpriced. Staff were okay and the food portions were nice. The problem was that the food everyone ordered, regardless of dish, was nothing special in any way, not a lot of flavor. The quality of the food and or its preparation seemed lacking. The meat dishes had pieces of gristle and fat which should have been trimmed off. I have said it before and I will say it again (this is my first time attending), Mexico Real puts the real in Mexico. My partner and I (we are not of the same sex) loved the chips and salsa and bean dip. The jalapeño margarita was a BOOM (see attached picture). Great atmosphere and great food. We checked this place out to watch the Super Bowl and grab food. The Colorado burrito with added grilled chicken was awesome. The chips and dip were great! Lots of drink selections as well. Our server was great and took care of us even though the restraint was chaotic with the game on. We were in Colorado Springs on an errand and decided we needed to eat. Looking at reviews on the fly, we stopped for lunch and sat in the bar. The bartender greeted us, took our drink order and the chips and salsa arrived. The salsa was the right amount of spice with chunks of tomato and onion with fresh cilantro. The "small" margaritas are 20 oz and very good. I had a lunch combo of cheese enchilada and crispy chile relleno with beans. My husband had Chile Colorado with beans and rice and loved how tender his beef was as well as how it was seasoned. What a wonderful surprise. Oh boy. We thought that we would give this place a try (it's been a while-I actually thought it was under new management or something). We were grossed out by the food. The salsa was gross (had some taco seasoning in it maybe?). The white cheese was really good !!! But it came on a burrito that was so gross (again with gross seasoning-way too much). I couldn't eat it. My wife ordered a mixed drink and she couldn't drink it either. Luckily, they took it back and didn't charge us. When we heard about the new location in the former Caspian Café, we decided we had to try this restaurant. We are originally from Phoenix where great Mexican food is plentiful; our conclusion was that this is the first genuinely great Mexican food we have had in the COS area since we moved here 23+ years ago. A couple of items I like to order to test the experience is chile rellenos and tamales. Both were excellent and my wife enjoyed her chimicanga. The renovated space is very nice with large windows and lots of light. Our server, Miguel, was professional, attentive, and checked on us throughout our meal. We left amazed at such a good experience and we will be back for sure. read more
