La Pepita is one of the many seafood restaurants in Puerto Morelos which was highly suggested by our boat operator on our snorkeling trip. Great service and cool al fresco vibe, you start of with a big basket of tortilla chips and a variety of salsas. I started off with a Ahi Tostada and Wifey started with a seafood soup which were both tasty. We shared a fresh Catch local Hogfish and Grilled Octopus which were absolutely delicious! After doing the snorkeling tour at the pier in Puerto Moreles, we asked our guide for a recommendation and he recommended this locals joint. It did not disappoint! The vibe is super relaxed, with all seats in the sand. My kids enjoyed chasing the iguanas and sitting on the palm tree (which strangely grows parallel with the ground) while we waited for our food. We didn't see the option on the menu but our guide told us there is a big cooler and you can just pick out your fish to get it fried up fresh for you. Sure enough, there was a huge white cooler where we could sort through the fish options and pick one the right size for our family. It came with sides like beans, guac and tortillas, and all meals come with chips plus tomato and jalapeno salsas. We also ordered ceviche and the total price was less than $40 for a family of 4. More importantly, everything was super fresh and delicious! I wish I lived nearby so I could come back again - I would be a regular if I could! read more

Food is amazing, Today I tried tha Dutch shrimp which I highly recommend: it's shrimp cover with bacon and cheese melted on top, how can you go wrong on that!!!!. After enjoying one of the best beaches in the Riveria Maya, we set out to find a nice spot for dinner. We found this little spot in Puerto Morelos called La Pepita. When we first walked in there was a swinging bar and the entire floor of the main floor seating area is completely covered in sand. What the restaurant lacked in decor, it made to for in taste. The food was absolutely scrumptious and worth every penny. We had some great ceviche and the best coconut shrimp I've ever had. Their fish was cooked to perfection. Our waiter was Walter, he was very helpful and very friendly with great service. A few extras things to note: 1. There is a Puerto Morales sign in the restaurant so you can take your pictures there while you wait for your food. 2. Puerto Morales seems to be very eco friendly. If you want a straw for your drink they will charge you 2 pesos for a biodegradable straw. So if you plan to drink more than one drink save your straw. 3. The price of your fish will vary by the size/weight you want. So if you plan on ordering the fish, you can either ask them if any other guest have ordered the fish and they will show you a size comparison or you can tell them how much you want to spend and they'll choose the size that way. 4. There are street vendors that will come by while you're eating and ask if you're interested in buying anything. If you say no, they will go away quickly. If you say yes, you can multitask and shop while you eat. 5. They have a live music option. A guitar and/ or harpist will come to your table and play for your if you want a more romantic ambience (for a fee). 6. They have an upstairs deck which is available by reservations for a big party. read more

This place does a few things well, very well. Just like restaurants in the city I live you get to know their specialties. Here, it is the ceviche, seafood cocktails and fried whole fish (boquinete.) If you order the fried fish ask them to look at some. They will take you over to a cooler, open it up and show you various sizes. Look at the eyes to make sure they are clear but at this place they go through some fish so they always are. But it's fun and then they think you know what you're doing. Mexicans always do this. Then pick one! Normally I get ceviche almost everywhere because I love it so much but here I get the mixed seafood cocktail because the sauce does not overwhelm the taste of the seafood and there are small oysters in the bottom. Delicious. They always give you Botanas before the meal and you get chips and saltines to put them on. Often it is baby shark but today was squash in a nice little seasoning. Yum! This is my go to in Puerto Morelos for three things, the ceviche, the seafood cocktail and the whole fried fish. Dos Equis ámbar for 35 pesos goes nicely with seafood here. Saw something new today on the menu, mixed seafood Chilaquiles so I may have to try that. read more

Although during the summertime it's very hot, the servers make sure we feel welcome. I was a visitor coming from Texas and they made us feel so special and the food was amazing. I was so sad I thought I would really like this placed based on the reviews but if you're a food snob like me, the food wasn't good. The coconut shrimp was decent however we spent almost $40 on the lobster and though it was huge it was over cooked, disappointing! I got the fish fillet and it was drenched in so much butter than it was getting firm like fat does when it's cold. So gross and the fish was salty. Oh my gosh! Great seafood. Lobster or fish in garlic sauce was heavenly. The shrimp a la Diablo was just spicy enough but not so hot you can't taste the shrimp. I would recommend it. Wonderful lunch - tables set in the sand - kids could -play in sand if tired of sitting at the table. Friendly service - we were there for lunch on a Sunday, so lots of local families enjoying a meal out - nice atmosphere. Started with guac, then shared whole fish, served with salad and rice. Delicioso! Also ordered sides of black bean sauce and a delicious salsa Mexicana (chopped tomatoes with onions and cilantro). Our server was very friendly and took us to the back to pick out the fish we wanted. I also ordered the garlic butter shrimp because I love to eat. Warning though, thry fo not serve just the shrimp from my understanding. I wanted the fish meal and to just add shrimp to it but I was told I had to order the shrimp meal. I love food but the extra sides was way too much for me. The restaurant is outside in sand so be prepared for that. Not a fan! But service was top notch, but food was a little weird. We ordered hardly any seafood. I ordered the fish tacos, and what came out was a mixed fish mush empanada. I was expecting a pacific coast fish taco with fried fish, cabbage slaw in a tortilla with a sweet/spicey sauce. Nope - something comparable to canned tuna fish came out. It was yuck.
