Ten Stars Negative. What happened in Lalos has never happened to me in four decades of eating out. There was a male host/server when I walked in. It was my Fathers birthday. We always eat at Mexican restaurants. It was our 3rd attempt to eat at Lalos because they were closed previous two visits, even though the hours on Google said open. I have lived in shasta since 2015 and never had the chance to eat at Lalos. Casa Ramos Restaurant, yes! Lalos? Not yet. Had I seen the reviews that so many people made about the manager, (Lalo), and who I came to learn was his son, Dante, I never would have even driven past this restaurant, but instead, taken side streets I know this sounds harsh, yet I am Christian who practices the scriptures of loving and blessing your enemies. So hopefully this review will help Lalo and Dante be happier and Kinder, to their customers. This is what happened: As soon as I walked in the door, Dante said "hi, we are closed". It was 7:45pm, and the internet said 9. I replied "I've tried to come in two other times, and the website says your open till 9?" "I don't care what the website says." Dante replied, instantly showing a superiority in his attitude, and rudeness, and there was customers sitting right there! I said, "may I speak with a manager?" (My mood had went from celebration/my dads birthday, to shocked) "You can leave the building or I'm calling the police." Dante replied. Wow.. I couldn't believe it. I said "if you're going to treat people this way someday you'll learn a lesson because of karma and what goes around comes around." I began to walk out and he followed me out. Insulting me in front of customers, calling me a P**sy, telling me to get a job, even after I was a good 75 - 100 feet down on the sidewalk, he was still standing in the front door, insulting me I was so shocked, and that response I gave was the best I could do in the face of his mutilating attitude. I never respond with anger or insults, but I did when I was a young adult. Yet, now im not so young, and display a good mood, with a wise temperament ; especially when I am dining out. Pray for Lalo and Dante. I don't think this place should stay open for business, to continue spreading Bad energy to people who are just looking to have some nice dining and good Mexican food, (which apparently their food is horrible, according to the reviews). DONT trust the 5-star reviews. Those reviews are probably false reviews made by employees and people they've asked to leave a good review. I called the restaurant a couple days later, and told the story to a female server who was very very sweet. And explained who the male server was, that's when I was told who it was, Lalos son, Dante. I had wanted to tell Lalo this story, but after reading so many other reviews about Lalo himself, talking with him wouldn't make a difference. They won't be happy treating people this way, And won't be greeted into the Kingdom of God if they don't shape up. God Forgives, but people need to practice kindness and love. Sometimes people need to lose what they have ,(I.e. such as their restaurant goes out of business), to grow, and reach compassion within themselves. Don't eat at Lalos. Ever again. read more

Went to Lalos friday January 23 for dinner. Friendly service. Food was horrible. Teriyaki steak was tough and tasteless. Chips Yates of old oil. Salsa was pretty good but very small portions. House margaritas are nothing special at 6$. I think they're trying to do too much. Mexican, American and Seafood may be too much for the kitchen staff. Call Chef Ramsey! There were very few patrons for a Friday night. We should have taken note of that. read more

Came here after walking around Lake Siskiyou, and luck would have it they recently closed for the evening. They were kind enough to let us order our food to go. Good props for the helpfulness. The vegetarian burrito was not your typical bean and cheese with lettuce. It had real veggies. The carne asada needed some more seasoning. Same said about the beans. Taco Bell would've been 100 percent better than this place, and a lot less expensive. I had a Tostada that consisted of a bag of shredded lettuce with a few pieces of shredded chicken on top. My granddaughter could've made that tasteless expensive joke of a dish. My husband had steak tacos, told them to hold the cabbage. WHO PUTS CABBAGE ON TACOS??? I've been in town for a few days now. And after the less than enjoyable meal the other day, I decided to give Lalos restaurant a try . I was warmly greeted by Donte. He was actually complementing my van. Our conversation was so heart welcoming, I decided to return to the restaurant for dinner. I asked Donte, the waiter, for a recommendation and he suggested # 9, Steak Picao. I ordered his suggestion and before I knew it, a hot dinner was being served. What can I say the service was quick and the food is delicious. I am pleasantly surprised and pleased! I think the local got this place all to themselves. It's worth the walk a few block down the street from the center of town. Pros: Great service and great hot food serviced quickly. Nice ambiance and great music Cons: Haven't experienced any ! I'm sorry I have to be so harsh with this place but me and family had a horrible experience. It started with me and my girlfriend coming into the restaurant to ask the waitresses if they could accommodate a large group as we were celebrating my brothers birthday and it was 10 of us (I know it may seem slightly irresponsible although they all live together and only my girl and I were the outsiders but have tested negative and showed no symptoms of the virus, although after lalo's I can't be to sure) and so they said they could seat all of us and would prepare the tables, they instructed us to go through the side gate, also they were very accommodating and nice, to which I went back to my family and instructed them to do so. As we were coming in the side entrance this older Hispanic man which I now believe to be Lalo or the owner immediately told us to stop and wait outside as he rushed to slam the gate in our faces, all while pushing my niece to the floor and not apologizing for being so rude. I was taken back at his attitude as the waitresses were so welcoming and he started going on about us having to wait outside and he couldn't sit us, then followed by we didn't have to eat there if we didn't want to, implying there are better locations for us to go to, and he would be having a dinner rush shortly. If you can call 3 couples a dinner rush you're pathetic. But the waitresses told him the situation and he walked away all while playing nice with the other guests and not apologizing or being seen any time after we were sat. The waitresses were amazing, sweet, and kind and we only stayed for them truthfully. The food was average, honestly nothing special and slightly unflavored for a $30 steak, with inaccurate descriptions on how the prawns would arrive. (battered and fried, probably to cover the low quality taste). The waitresses went above and beyond with making sure we were doing well without being to pushy, a perfect balance rarely seen. After we left they were very kind and wished us well as we left. Management needs some serious customer relations training and I'm appalled at how someone can run a business like that but makes sense why no one was really there. Hope you have a good time if you come to Shasta, and if you want to be pushed and bullied around while having the door slammed in your face then give this place a try! THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY EXISTENCE. As soon as I sat down the waiter acted as if he despised his job and there were a "whites only" sign outside. At the point when I ordered my food, I politely told the server that I would like to have exactly what my mother requested. Very simple. We also were deciding on an appetizer. Then the waiter bursted out and said "will that be all" If I were blind folded and stumbled upon this place I would have thought I was in a McDonald's drive-through the way he rushed me with my order. The food showed up within minutes and I contemplated internally that this must be a joke, my 10 year old niece can prepare a better entree than this. PACKED SHREDDED CHEESE AND CANNED REFRIED BEANS ACCOMPANIED WITH MICROWAVED RICE FROM A BAG. I thought to myself "okay I'll force myself to eat this if I order sautéed veggies" Our server disappeared for 10 minutes after we received our entrees. Which prompted us to grab the attention of another waiter (who was obliging) if we can have veggies with our happy meal--I mean meal. An additional 10 minutes pass by and we were being overlooked by and by. I strolled into the entryway of the lobby and politely requested the sautéed veggies for the disturbing (disgusting) enchilada that was given to me. Our server was so outraged, he said "Nobody calls my food disgusting, you have to get out or I'm CALLING THE POLICE" I was SHOCKED that he deemed it necessary to take it that far! Of course his male ego was so fragile to such an extent that it must of been attached with the eatery. The older gentleman (who appeared to be his dad) encouraged this behavior as if dumb and dumber retired and opened up a restaurant in Mount Shasta. I wish I had read the yelp reviews before I entering this place!! The reviews were atrocious. Eat at this restaurant at your own risk, I have never observed such hostility and down right egregious behavior from a waiter and owner. Disgusting behavior to compliment the disgusting food. I was visiting from the Bay Area and I thought to stop by to get a prawn burrito. They were hostile because I asked for hot sauce. Told me white people here eat mostly and they say white people will not eat there if it's hot. So I asked if they would fix a good prawn burrito with there hottest sauce and they said they would but it would cost a lot of money. Once I was reading the menu , I thought about how unpleasant the Welcome was being a Mexican restaurant and so I stated makes me want to say , if It ain't hot I don't want to eat here. If you expect excellent, or even decent, as in decency! customer service, this is NOT the restaurant! I had stopped by Lalo's in Mt. Shasta, for an order of Nacho's. I had recalled my last visit here, & the disappointing meal I had with a friend, but thought to give Lalo's another chance. My great mistake! The host/server/owner/all? was abrupt & very rigid, when I requested the Nachos be made with Beans, Cheese, & Jalapenos. One would think, a no-brainer,, but not here! As the representative of Lalo's remained sadly, a jerk, going on & on about how he was already 'breaking the rules' in offering me the "Child's Nachos! We were passing through and spending one night in town and found this place in our walk. We enjoyed the outdoor patio and their strawberry margarita. We are vegan so we ordered a veggie burrito and a black bean burrito. The veggie burrito was delicious! Their guacamole is just okay though. Overall though we enjoyed our meal. read more

I've been eating here for years. I've consistently been impressed with the quality of their food and ingredients. Now that I no longer live here, I always make it a point to eat here when I visit. My husband, two little ones and I came here on our way through Shasta. After already being to two other restaurants in the area that said they were closing early, we got to Lalo's an hour before their posted closing time. The server was so incredibly obtuse it was insane. He said they were closed (fine, whatever, it's not like we were demanding to be served). All I said was, "oh, a lot of restaurants in the area haven't updated their hours on Yelp yet" he goes on to tell us that they are not staffed enough to handle all of "you people" from out of town. He also goes on to tell the patrons who were eating there, "I don't have to give them a reason why we are closing early" and "I have $600 worth of tips in my pocket and I wish I didn't have it and just stayed home". I wouldn't go to Lalo's if you are visiting the area from out of town. My 13 year old son and I went there tonight. Lalo came out to schmooze with some local people at the table next to us (he had ignored us) and said they shouldn't sit where we were because he said it was going to rain Big heavy drops like down in Mexico. I think he was trying for authentic ambiance or something. I said: "oh yes, what part of Mexico are you from?" I was curious where the cuisine was inspired from. He said: "you wouldn't know it's not somewhere you Tourists would know!" I didn't reply. When we went to leave he said my son's hair looked like Donald Trumps! My son was very embarrassed and asked me why he said that? I think Lalo is a relic and unfriendly to "outsiders". Very friendly. Mix of Mexican and American menu. Had the vegetarian tostado. It was one shell with enough veggies to cover 3-4 shells. Would have preferred it spread out but the veggies were yummy and also had black beans on it. Hubby had the shredded beef enchilada/beef burrito combo and really liked it.
