Some random person jumped in to my conversation about hot chocolate to tell me they had the best hot chocolate in town. He was right.

We went ahead and got an 8-piece box and a couple of the chocolate covered orange slices. I can't remember what all we got, I think my oldest picked all the caramels, my youngest picked a raspberry one. I picked the yuzu and the pistachio. We all seemed super happy with our selections. The chocolate covered orange slices were amazing too! We were greeted and helped right away and had lovely service. Definitely check this place out!

La Châtelaine is the kind of place you have to find--tucked away in a quiet Bozeman neighborhood,…read morefar from the bustle of Main Street. The search felt almost romantic, like wandering the side streets of Paris in pursuit of a hidden chocolatier known only to locals. The exterior was humble, even nondescript--I half-wondered if I'd stumbled upon an old hardware store. But the moment I stepped inside, I knew I'd found something extraordinary. A long glass case gleamed with rows of exquisite chocolates--delicate, jewel-like creations that would make any Parisian confiseur proud. These weren't simple chocolate bars or mass-produced sweets; each piece looked like a tiny work of art, inspired by faraway cacao origins and the timeless elegance of old-world France. Choosing just four for my sampler box felt impossible, so I surrendered and asked the server for guidance. She smiled and asked what flavors I loved most, then curated a selection that included two pieces crafted from Mexican cacao--tracing their roots to the Aztecs--and a layered chocolate so refined it could have come straight from Saint-Germain-des-Prés. To complete the indulgence, I ordered a hot chocolate--Mexican style, of course. Rich, velvety, and lightly spiced, it was perfection in a cup. Each bite of chocolate was an awakening--smooth, complex, and impossibly luxurious. By the end, I was speechless. La Châtelaine isn't just a chocolatier; it's a love letter to Paris, written in cacao. They may be hidden in Bozeman for now, but their craft deserves a world stage.

The service is simply appalling. The servers so obviously do not care about their patrons. First…read moretrip we had booked a booth for a birthday party of 8 people. They did not reserve a booth and did nothing to recognize the occasion. We then had to wait over an hour for food. The appetizers were good - tartare and yellowtail - but the entrees were absolutely dreadful. (How do you screw up a hamburger?) We gave them another shot last night and waited 15 minutes to even get approached for a drink, and no one came over. So we left and went to Stockman's (excellent!) 1864 is great venue that is entirely wasted.

Service was fast but it was a Thursday night and we were at the bar so the place was not busy. The cocktails are well crafted and we enjoyed what we had. Only off-putting thing was we asked to pay partially with a company card which was limited to only $39 and our check was $42 I gave a $20 bill with the card and asked the bartender to charge $39 and take the rest out of cash and I would tip in cash. Well he gave us the receipt but not my change. So I guess he decided he deserved a 40% tip for our two drinks and bread. As a bartender myself I was a bit speechless but wasn't about to argue over dollars it just gave a bad impression.
