In town for our Yellowstone adventure. Bozeman was where we started and stayed the first night. So a discovery of the Bozeman downtown and its local watering holes was in order. This place looked pretty interesting so we gave it a shot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is definitely dark and designed to give the 1800s vibe. Apparently this used to be the Red Light district - so they have the reddish interior and photos of women working the streets from that era as an homage.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Cocktails are great, and presented in style. Mine was an Old Fashioned, my go to when testing out a new bar. It did not disappoint. Got a couple of food bites to go with it. It was pretty early in the evening, so the place was not busy and we had our teenage girls with us. The server we got was amazing, and took time to explain some history, let my wife taste a couple of wines before picking the one she wants, and cracking some jokes, enough to make the teenagers uncomfortable and get their eyes away from their phones for a minute.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a cool atmosphere - dark, loungey vibes with really cool decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was good, drinks were ok (not my fav cocktails) but they had a good variety, and the food was excellent. Short ribs and Caesar were amazing! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Despite the lounge atmosphere, this place was family friendly for dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

This was such an unfortunate night, and 2 stars are appropriate since it was only the kitchen that saved this experience. To start, we waited on a Wednesday night for a couple minutes to be sat in a nearly empty restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We ended up sitting at the bar (hoping the service would be best with an attentive bar tender), and began evaluating the menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This dinner was a business meal with a client. My client ordered the chicken, and I had settled on the steak tartare. I was anticipating to purchase a bottle of wine and located exactly the wine that would pair amazingly, it was a gamay from the Willamette Valley. The waiter told me as I ordered that the steak tartare was small and would be a poor meal choice. After taking his advice, I still desired the gamay and settle for the Rabbit Roulade dish. The server then informed me that he believed that dish was sold out. He returned to tell me that the kitchen was out of that dish, and they had been for some time. Now I was left searching the menu struggling to find an option. I landed on the sweet potato gnocchi. I ordered the Gamay, and the server seemed to have no idea what that wine was. I handed them the menu and pointed it out. The server and bartender stepped away for a couple minutes as they stood at the end of the bar frantically looking in the wine cabinet. They returned to tell me they were also out of the wine I ordered. They then tried to sell me some other wines, but I decided I would rather just do cocktails since that was the only gamay on the menu and there were no burgundy/Beaujolais options. The food came out, and thankfully it was good and had great flavor. This was the only redeeming quality. I immediately asked for an order of cornbread since the sauce was good and demanded a bread to properly clean the plate. I slowed down my eating to enjoy the meal but also to allow the cornbread to come out. It took 25-30min before the server came back, and when I asked about it they went to check. They returned to inform me that the kitchen had made a cornbread but it didn't turn out good, so they were "re-firing" another. At about 40 minutes after the order the cornbread had arrived. My client had finished his meal, an I had finished all but a pool of sauce on my plate. Sadly, due to the time my plate sat idle and the sauce cooled, the sauce separated and split into a mix of butter and oil. This rendered the delivered bread useless for the intended reason for the order. The cornbread tasted okay, but with my meal or within twenty minutes would have been much better. The server and bartender did not check on us besides the aforementioned encounters. Again, the food was good. Based on the times and my own experience as a server, the cornbread I believe was never entered into the computer. The times did not match up for how fast the supposed second order came out in a restaurant with five other patrons in it. Between being out of food, out of wine, and the cornbread fiasco it was not a good business meal or look for an out of state visitor. I tried to be gracious, but again, from my experience as a server left me thinking a drink ($6 beer) or the cornbread may be waived given then totality of the circumstances.... Nothing happened. I was charged for all items and spent $101. I am a 25-30% tipper normally. Tonight I left $10... 10%. That was only because the food flavor was good, and the kitchen deserved that whole tip. If this was a date night, I would have not tipped at all. My 10% tip will be a 0% tip going forward for this establishment, as I will not return again. Order this food takeout, and hope they have what you want or move on. That's my opinion, because service is not good either. I found myself apologizing to my client, and that is an awful place to be. My client even commented, "I'm shocked you tipped and were that kind". When I explained the reason was for food quality he quipped, "yeah but that tip won't go to the kitchen like it should." That is not the conversation I want with a client after a business dinner!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Looking for a bar on a Sat night that isn't full of college students? This is your spot for the 30s+.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The drink menu is LOADED with anything one needs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The bar downstairs is a vibe and the music is poppin![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Darker decor with warm ambient lighting and old school bar vibe decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]About 1/3 full on a Saturday night. Good mix of folks. Easy to talk even with the music going.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of space for large groups.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking on the Main Street is no issue! Service was good too.

Really enjoyed my dinner at 1864! I was able to snag a seat at the bar and started with an Old Fashioned and the Yellowtail crudo. Definitely had some kick to it. The service was wonderful and attentive. Mushroom tortellini for the main? Yes please! I make my own pasta and I could tell that these were fresh made. So good! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cool ambiance downstairs in the basement. Very speak easy vibes...[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Started with an appetizer, the meatballs were good and the sauce was tasty. Good portion, enough to share. For the main course, I was leaning towards the smash burger special, but went with the bison steak....bad choice. The meat was tough and chewy, not what I was expecting. I'm not one to usually send back food, it arrived more in the well done range. The vibe at the place was great and lead bartender made the place enjoyable pouring old fashion's.

Would give half a star if possible. Sat at the bar and wait staff was completely inattentive after taking our drink order despite there being a total of 4 parties and 4 bartenders. Cocktail tasted like rubbing alcohol for $16. Meatballs were dry and came with stale toast sans any sauce. The crudo was actually pretty good. We had ordered the short rib entree as well but after waiting a half hour after our appetizer plates were cleared we decided to ask for the check. Will not be back and glad all we wasted on the experience was a gift card.

Food: the steak tartare is a MUST, this dish is what brings this place to 4+ stars, if I stopped there this would be a 5 star review. The meats of the day or whatever is called was a solid 1/5 stars - veryyyyy dry duck thigh and mashed potato that tasted like a terrible aloo masala ... who wants that in Montana (and don't get me wrong, I LOVE Indian). We also had the lamb neck pappardelle and that was decent. Service: very slow, took 25+ minutes to get our dish. Ambiance: great if you are here for a slow dinner and u order carefully - you will have a great time. If you are here for an exceptional service maybe lower your expectations or go elsewhere.

This feels like a gem to me. It was an oasis from the chaos of the Main Street noise. With good ambiance, a solid old fashioned and a pretty decent meal. I would return here for the atmosphere alone. A really well curated dark bar. It has the vibe of a speakeasy and a pub. Muted colors, dim lights, quiet booths around the perimeter of the room, tables throughout and a bar with a wide assortment of drinks. It was quiet enough that you could have a conversation with the person across from you, but not so much that you felt like you would be heard by everyone in the room. The old fashioned was well made. They used a local whisky which complimented the traditional flavors of the old fashioned very well. It was smooth, slightly sweet with a strong aroma of orange. The presentation was simple, but the product was delightful. We got the Birria Grilled Cheese. The presentation was nice, and the product was quite well done. The birria had good flavor, the sandwich was well constructed and didn't fall apart at all. The fries were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. A nice take on the use of Birria. Next time I may ask for a little extra cheese, but that's due to my own personal preference. Our server was friendly and attentive. She guided us well in our experience. This isn't a club. If you want that, stay on the main level and go to one of the clubs or bars up there. But I really enjoyed this experience and would return again in the future.

You just have to go! I love the level of care in the food preparation and presentation at 1864. Every dish and drink I've tried has been absolute perfection. A few of my favorites are the greens & beans, the chocolate martini, and literally all of the pasta dishes. And the ambiance... *chef's kiss* I love it. This is hands down one of my favorite places in Bozeman.

Service was great - all the bartenders dress "on brand" and able to make suggestions while ensuring our drinks stayed as full as we wanted them too (but also totally good with us just being low key) Pro tip: They allegedly have the best grilled cheese and tomato soup in Bozeman, so guess I'll have to go back for that. One downside? They need to change their name! I can NEVER remember it and neither can my friends. Makes it less memorable in a spot that would otherwise be high on the list!

I hate to compare but it's crazy how different two places can be in the same hotel. The service here was abysmal. We came at the end of someone's set and it wasn't that crowded in the bar but almost every single table was dirty, with empty glasses on them. There seemed to be one bartender and another person helping. That person literally just stood there talking to people instead of cleaning up the tables. The bartender was pretty rude too and didn't seem to be into working here at all. The only clean table was by the door and it kept getting opened while the next band set up so we just moved to a table with dirty glassware on it. The drinks were pretty lackluster (especially compared to the awesome ones upstairs). I don't think it was that the menu was inferior to the other, I just think the bartender didn't care. Both my drinks were watered down and icy. Pretty sad for the price to be honest. It got pretty crowded for the second set being played so we decided to leave to let other people sit. I wasn't interested in having another icy sad drink.

The wait is not that long.. we came here as walk in's 2x on our 1week stay that started in Bozeman, went down to Yellowstone, then to Idaho for UTV riding and then to Jackson Hole WY to go see the Teton National Park. It was nice to walk around the local shops while we waited and then afterwards to work off those delicious carbs. Thin crust pizzas clean, fresh, not heavy and seasonal ingredients. The crust is soooo good. Chewy and some char. We had: Montana Burger Royale My teen son dreams about this. Yes its 27.00 and he said its the BEST burger he's ever had. I would have to agree (and we live in Austin TX where there's great cow) -the burger meat melted in your mouth -the egg dripping as you break the yolk was perfection. The bacon so juicy, the brioche bun (that was the winning touch) We shared: Hot Honey Pizza- so good 9/10 Spicy Burrata- also great. 8/10 Mac n cheese- that was the only miss. Way under seasoned and the white sauce seemed to get sucked up by the pasta so the dish was super dry. 3/10 Frites and Fondue- fries were great. Thick cut with finely shaved pecorino. Could have used a heaping more of the shaved cheese. -the fondue was ok, seemed still under seasoned or just not creamy enough?
