We were really disappointed with our experience at 1864, especially considering our bill was $169. It took over 30 minutes just to receive a simple vodka soda. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve from there. I ordered the meatballs, and they had to be sent back twice. The first time they came out cold. The second time they came back mushy that they were inedible. After the second attempt, I asked to have the meatballs removed from the bill since I never received an acceptable dish. Instead of trying to make it right, the bartender told me they would not remove them from the check. Everyone can have an off night, but what really left a bad impression was the lack of customer service and unwillingness to correct the problem. The service is simply appalling. The servers so obviously do not care about their patrons. First trip we had booked a booth for a birthday party of 8 people. They did not reserve a booth and did nothing to recognize the occasion. We then had to wait over an hour for food. The appetizers were good - tartare and yellowtail - but the entrees were absolutely dreadful. (How do you screw up a hamburger?) We gave them another shot last night and waited 15 minutes to even get approached for a drink, and no one came over. Service was fast but it was a Thursday night and we were at the bar so the place was not busy. I've been before and wanted the bread and butter again so that's all we had and a couple cocktails. The atmosphere is fun and classy feeling. The cocktails are well crafted and we enjoyed what we had. Only off-putting thing was we asked to pay partially with a company card which was limited to only $39 and our check was $42 I gave a $20 bill with the card and asked the bartender to charge $39 and take the rest out of cash and I would tip in cash. Well he gave us the receipt but not my change. So I guess he decided he deserved a 40% tip for our two drinks and bread. In town for our Yellowstone adventure. Bozeman was where we started and stayed the first night. So a discovery of the Bozeman downtown and its local watering holes was in order. This place looked pretty interesting so we gave it a shot. The interior is definitely dark and designed to give the 1800s vibe. Apparently this used to be the Red Light district - so they have the reddish interior and photos of women working the streets from that era as an homage. Cocktails are great, and presented in style. Mine was an Old Fashioned, my go to when testing out a new bar. It did not disappoint. Got a couple of food bites to go with it. It was pretty early in the evening, so the place was not busy and we had our teenage girls with us. The server we got was amazing, and took time to explain some history, let my wife taste a couple of wines before picking the one she wants, and cracking some jokes, enough to make the teenagers uncomfortable and get their eyes away from their phones for a minute. read more

This was such an unfortunate night, and 2 stars are appropriate since it was only the kitchen that saved this experience. To start, we waited on a Wednesday night for a couple minutes to be sat in a nearly empty restaurant. We ended up sitting at the bar (hoping the service would be best with an attentive bar tender), and began evaluating the menu. This dinner was a business meal with a client. My client ordered the chicken, and I had settled on the steak tartare. I was anticipating to purchase a bottle of wine and located exactly the wine that would pair amazingly, it was a gamay from the Willamette Valley. The waiter told me as I ordered that the steak tartare was small and would be a poor meal choice. After taking his advice, I still desired the gamay and settle for the Rabbit Roulade dish. The server then informed me that he believed that dish was sold out. He returned to tell me that the kitchen was out of that dish, and they had been for some time. Now I was left searching the menu struggling to find an option. I landed on the sweet potato gnocchi. I ordered the Gamay, and the server seemed to have no idea what that wine was. I handed them the menu and pointed it out. The server and bartender stepped away for a couple minutes as they stood at the end of the bar frantically looking in the wine cabinet. They returned to tell me they were also out of the wine I ordered. They then tried to sell me some other wines, but I decided I would rather just do cocktails since that was the only gamay on the menu and there were no burgundy/Beaujolais options. The food came out, and thankfully it was good and had great flavor. This was the only redeeming quality. I immediately asked for an order of cornbread since the sauce was good and demanded a bread to properly clean the plate. I slowed down my eating to enjoy the meal but also to allow the cornbread to come out. It took 25-30min before the server came back, and when I asked about it they went to check. They returned to inform me that the kitchen had made a cornbread but it didn't turn out good, so they were "re-firing" another. At about 40 minutes after the order the cornbread had arrived. My client had finished his meal, an I had finished all but a pool of sauce on my plate. Sadly, due to the time my plate sat idle and the sauce cooled, the sauce separated and split into a mix of butter and oil. This rendered the delivered bread useless for the intended reason for the order. The cornbread tasted okay, but with my meal or within twenty minutes would have been much better. The server and bartender did not check on us besides the aforementioned encounters. Again, the food was good. Based on the times and my own experience as a server, the cornbread I believe was never entered into the computer. The times did not match up for how fast the supposed second order came out in a restaurant with five other patrons in it. Between being out of food, out of wine, and the cornbread fiasco it was not a good business meal or look for an out of state visitor. I tried to be gracious, but again, from my experience as a server left me thinking a drink ($6 beer) or the cornbread may be waived given then totality of the circumstances.... Nothing happened. I was charged for all items and spent $101. I am a 25-30% tipper normally. Tonight I left $10... 10%. That was only because the food flavor was good, and the kitchen deserved that whole tip. If this was a date night, I would have not tipped at all. My 10% tip will be a 0% tip going forward for this establishment, as I will not return again. Order this food takeout, and hope they have what you want or move on. That's my opinion, because service is not good either. I found myself apologizing to my client, and that is an awful place to be. My client even commented, "I'm shocked you tipped and were that kind". When I explained the reason was for food quality he quipped, "yeah but that tip won't go to the kitchen like it should." That is not the conversation I want with a client after a business dinner! read more

This place has a really cool vibe, granted it's very dark and underground. They definitely worked with it as well as they could. We were a large party of 12 on a busy night but the server was great, super attentive. He was helpful without being on top of us. The food was ok. Better than where we went the night before, but not fantastic. We shared the Cesar salad and the whipped feta salad as well as some of their daily bread. First off, a table is sharing family style it's typical to bring utensils for serving so everyone doesn't use their fork but they failed there. The bread was great, highly recommend! The salads were just ok, nothing to write home about. And, fairly small portions considering. I had the tortellini with mushrooms. It was edible, but not much past that. The pasta was cooked well, but the mushrooms were beyond recognition and the broth/sauce it came in was just gross. There were also a few grossly overcooked carrots randomly in the mix, which is strange for such a dish. My husband had the bison meatloaf and his meat was overcooked and super chewy, but his broccoli and potatoes were done well. For dessert we all shared the cannoli, cheesecake and baked Montana. Again, no utensils for sharing which made it hard. The cannoli was straight up disgusting. Sour, weird texture, gross. The cheesecake was ok at best and the baked Montana looked cool but was poorly constructed and hard to eat. Overall - go for the setting, not the food. read more

This feels like a gem to me. It was an oasis from the chaos of the Main Street noise. With good ambiance, a solid old fashioned and a pretty decent meal. I would return here for the atmosphere alone. A really well curated dark bar. It has the vibe of a speakeasy and a pub. Muted colors, dim lights, quiet booths around the perimeter of the room, tables throughout and a bar with a wide assortment of drinks. It was quiet enough that you could have a conversation with the person across from you, but not so much that you felt like you would be heard by everyone in the room. The old fashioned was well made. They used a local whisky which complimented the traditional flavors of the old fashioned very well. It was smooth, slightly sweet with a strong aroma of orange. The presentation was simple, but the product was delightful. We got the Birria Grilled Cheese. The presentation was nice, and the product was quite well done. The birria had good flavor, the sandwich was well constructed and didn't fall apart at all. The fries were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. A nice take on the use of Birria. Next time I may ask for a little extra cheese, but that's due to my own personal preference. Our server was friendly and attentive. She guided us well in our experience. This isn't a club. If you want that, stay on the main level and go to one of the clubs or bars up there. But I really enjoyed this experience and would return again in the future. read more

Music was playing in the background but we were able to hold a conversation without screaming at each other. We ordered drinks, the happy hour deals were in full swing and took advantage of the house wines and the very tasty crafted cocktails. Found this brand new restaurant after it's only been open a week! Tucked downstairs on Main Street, the interior is dark, moody, and romantic -- or mysterious depending on your evening. The giant bar is a beautiful center point with tables taking up the majority of the floor space. There are a few booths tucked against the wall and a really great private room if you've got a group with you. The bar menu is impressive with dozens of options. Had a classic, smooth Bighorn Manhattan and tried the unique Rum King -- boasting 10 ingredients! -- which is a boozy coffee-meets-citrus concoction that I found lovely (though admit it's not for everyone). The food is amazing. The port chop with its roasted fennel and rich sweet sauce was so tender and well cooked. The flavors paired deliciously. Tried a bite of the chicken Saltambocco as well and my first comment was "this is chicken?!" - seriously so good. Enjoyed the Baked Montana which was quite refreshing but it is sweet with a lot of components making up the dish. The funfetti and crunchy bites were a fun add-in. Our bartender/server was kind and attentive and he was very fast and efficient at making drinks and handling both orders from the bar and for the tables. Can't wait to be back to try more of the menu here. You can tell a lot of thought went into the flavor profiles and the intention of the menu. Price point might be a click high for some but matches the vibe and ambiance of this restaurant well. My husband and I wanted to go somewhere new for our wedding anniversary and this place did not disappoint. We started with the hand made Tortelloni stuffed with chicken sausage which was incredible and flavorful. For our main entrees we had the chicken saltimbocca which had rich flavors of both sweet and savory with perfectly cooked chicken. We also shared the mushroom Bucatini which was creamy and savory. The pasta was outstanding. We finished off with the cheesecake which was the perfect amount of sweet + creamy. The pears were the perfect topping. Now to the food: The baba ganosh is an absolute must, absolutely could eat it every single day! The beef tartare was good but not blow your socks off. The flat iron steak with Chimichuri was amazing but unfortunately overcooked, we ordered med rare abs it came out well done. But the crisp potatoes were great! The grits and prawns was spicy from the Italian sausage and we didn't care for the whole prawn presentation, not a fan of the prawn eyes and shells but that's me.
