La Pie is a breath of fresh air in the sea of garden variety bistros and brasseries. It introduces culinary ideas that I haven't found elsewhere in Nice. As a native Californian, I was thrilled to find a vegetable-forward menu that highlights produce such as eggplant and sweet potato. The airy setting (small, but big enough for comfortable dining when we had an early lunch) offers new takes on deli salads that rely on fresh cheeses and lentils with well-prepared vegetables on top. In a world where produce is a sidekick for meat and fish, La Pie has new options in which flavors like miso and lemon are king. My only gripe is that sometimes the ratios are too heavy on the lentils. The dressing and vegetables get lost and there isn't enough variety in each bite. Also, I'm sure La Pie has its reasons, but they should consider staying open for dinner and weekends. They are near enough the tourist hub that they would attract business during those hours. read more
