La Piña Cantina is a small Mexican spot located inside the food hall at the International Marketplace. Frankly we ended up coming here because my little picky eater wanted a quesadilla, so I immediately checked Yelp and found this spot. The chicken quesadillas are massive and packed with a lot of chicken. My kid absolutely loved them, which is why we ended up coming back. However, the reason I'm not giving them a full five stars is because on one of our visits I ordered their beef tacos and got very sick after eating them. Frankly I think it was the oil in them or something similar because the meat was drenched in oil. If you are wondering, Fernanda why you ate them if they were so oily? Easy, because I was hungry and they were not cheap... but I completely regretted it afterward. So don't make the same mistake I did, and stay away from their beef tacos. Would I come back? I decided to eat here when I saw the birria tacos on their menu, but sadly I was disappointed. It started with the service, they were not friendly and obviously wanted to not be there. While I was waiting for my food, one of the employees got frustrated while working on a quesadilla and threw it angrily into the trash can and had to walk away for someone to take over. I ordered their frozen margarita which was a very small amount and also very bad. I had a couple people try it and they all said it was terrible, it just had a weird after and during taste. When I actually got the birria, the sauce it came with was like a tomato soup with some chile flavor. By itself that sauce might be good but it did not mix well with the birria. The meat was dry. Awful service our food literally took an hour and 15 minutes. The entire mall closed before we even got our food. We complained to the lady several times and she skipped past our meal on the screen and prioritized other peoples food that complained first. Then they gave us tacos instead of a burrito. In the international Market area they share a court area with other establishments. The food smells great as you walk in and check out all the vendors. Their food tastes fresh and flavorful. They offer a military discount which is very nice. You can buy a bottle of beer also or there is a full service bar (not LaPina) in the court. It's located in the Kūhiō food hall across from Kona coffee. Seating is by the street, so it's great for people watching. We've ordered almost everything on the menu, but our favorite is by far their nachos. They're huge! Definitely enough to share. We've had both their carne asada and shredded beef and both are delicious and flavorful. Their quesadillas and burritos are also great choices. Drinks are 10/10. ​We stopped by La Pina on a Thursday night with my wife and family. The overall experience was a mixed bag. The staff was friendly, which was a definite plus, but they were a little slow--especially considering there were only about four occupied tables, including ours. For my main dish, I ordered the specialty shrimp tacos. I was pretty disappointed, as they were surprisingly bland given all the delicious ingredients listed, like pineapple, fried shrimp, cabbage, and sauce. My wife had an issue with her order; her al pastor tacos did not arrive with the rest of our food and came out much later. However, it wasn't all bad! My niece ordered the birria ramen, and she said the broth was rich and very good, so there's clearly some excellent cooking happening in the kitchen. Carnitas tacos lacked flavor and had a consistency like they were cooked in a slow cooker. There was way too much soggy and partially rendered fat. The el pastor tacos were okay (barely passable) but not better than anything I've gotten from a street vendor. The margarita was odd and had a red crust on the rim that tasted like salt mixed with sweetened baby aspirin. The Calamari appetizer was okay but it was served with a cup of oil with garlic in it, and a very unimpressive tartar sauce. Overall it was just a bunch of overpriced mediocre food. My first time trying La Pina last night and I was really impressed! I tried the queso and chips first, super delicious home style chips and the queso had a hint of jalapeño flavor but was not spicy. The beef birria tacos were so GOOD, wow!!! They come in 3 and actually I shared with my boyfriend because he wasn't really hungry, and so he ate one taco. On my second one I felt it was kind of heavy and I almost couldn't finish lol. I would love to try other dishes there too. I did also get the rice and beans and didn't expect the beans to be a black bean liquidy dip kind of thing. It was hard to eat compared to regular beans but still very good. I don't like to complain, but I just went to La Piña Taqueria to order the Carne Asada and the girl (Lani) that took my order was extremely rude. When I ordered the plate, Lani immediately was upset and said, "You know what, Im going to ring this up here, but I'm so sick of you guys coming up here ordering that when we don't sell it over here" I told her that I've never been here before and asked where I should order it from, and she said, "No I'm gonna ring you up here, but I'm sick of being made to look like a dumbass, but I'm gonna ring you up even though I'm not supposed to and it's gonna get me into trouble.
