Very disappointing experience today. A bird became caught by its foot in the string lights hanging above the restaurant tables by the pool and was left hanging there struggling and causing a commotion. Multiple patrons asked restaurant employees several times to please help, but staff refused, saying they were too busy with their tables and would call someone else to come get the bird. It was horrible to watch an animal suffering while the staff showed so little urgency or concern. We understand birds may frequently be around an outdoor restaurant, but when you hang string lights in an open-air environment surrounded by nature, situations like this can happen. The bird obviously doesn't understand the danger. Regardless of the bird itself, the attitude and lack of compassion from the staff were enough for me. I will never return to this restaurant and would highly encourage others to avoid this location, even if you are staying at the hotel. read more

This is a great place to hang out by the pool and bar. It's so nice to have chaise loungers, couches etc near the pool bar and really good food all at your fingertips. I had the chef salad attractively arranged and abundantly filled with greens, pickled onions, purple sweet potatoes, boiled eggs and avocados among the fresh items on my plate. The bartender was very accommodating and quick to get what ever we needed. It was perfection! A great way to get some sunshine, pool time and a Mai Tai. I don't always have high hopes for a restaurant in a hotel (this is in The Modern), but love it when the food turns out to be good, as it did here. I had a late supper and a late breakfast here, and both were filling and tasty. The ambiance is simple and practical (no tablecloths, etc.), with lots of outdoor seating available (and significant indoor seating for breakfast). The staff were charming and helpful. For supper, I had the loco moco. The gravy was rich and savory, and the burger was excellent (though it was closer to medium-well than the medium ordered). It was filling and perfect for the end of a long day. Paired well with Aloha Blonde. For breakfast, I got the Hawaiian omelette. Massively stuffed with delicious, greasy roasted pork, plus onions and cheese (I opted against the mushrooms). Though I loved it, I couldn't finish it. The hash browns were perfect -- crispy and not at all dry. And they have Starbucks coffee. Pro-tip: Don't leave your food unattended. This review only reflects the service and food, NOT the ambiance of The Grove. Loco Moco - 3.5/5 The brown gravy was how loco moco gravy is suppose to taste. Nice and hearty, with beefiness to the flavor to complement the hamburger patty. The rice was cooked right, not too soft, not undercooked or hard. The hamburger patty was ordered medium, but came back well done (see pic). This made the patty a little hard and dry. But overall, the gravy and rice made up for the overdone burger patty. I haven't tried any other food items on the menu. That said, the loco moco wasn't bad. I would definitively order it again in the future, but to make sure the patty is cooked medium. read more

The Grove Restaurant and Bar is located within the Hilton Grand Vacation Club Modern Hotel. They have a solid breakfast menu and happy hour. It's really hit or miss depending on what you order and when ordering. Best breakfast item is the French toast or anything from the sweet section, the worst is probably the breakfast burrito-no flavor, really bland, disappointing. During our stay we had several breakfasts, a couple of happy hour items another day, and drinks during happy hour by the pool on a separate occasion. The happy hour pork nachos were divine and would definitely have those again. The beet burrata salad was off the regular menu, it's incredibly filling with lots of good stuff packed including pistachios, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, and roasted beets. read more

This used to be Cinnamons. It's located in the Ilikai. We had a dinner and a breakfast here. Dinner was average - probably 3 stars. I ordered the cheddar burger. I'd give it 2 stars. It needed some help starting with the quality of the beef. My daughter had the Kauai Shrimp Scampi. She described it as dry and with very little flavor. One star. My other daughter had a salad which had avocado which was not ripe. 3 stars. Breakfast was better than dinner - 4 stars. I ordered Da Benny Benedict which was good. I would've give it 5 stars but the meat was a bit tough. Perhaps that's how this smoked kiawe pork is typically. Let me know. My daughter ordered a side of fried rice and the avocado toast. Both were decent. 3.5 stars. They need to upgrade the bread for the toast. It seemed like white bread. I rounded up with my review because I'm optimistic and hope that they will get better with age. The Grove is a restaurant nestled in The Modern - Hilton Vacation Resort We arrived 9pm on a Friday night and the first thing I wanted to eat was a Loco Moco. So I ordered that and some garlic truffle fries for my wife and the total came out to about $40 Defined pricey for what you get but I'd say it was food for me. Service was adequate as the servers agreed to have my food to-go so I could take it up to my room to enjoy with my wife. Would I recommend this place? Maybe in a pinch - but you're better off going to other local spots if you really want to enjoy your food. read more

Located at The Modern hotel. Giving 5 stars because the service from Maxwell was outstanding and the food was good. We had so many questions about the menu and Maxwell was so patient with us / gave great advice. We ordered off the breakfast menu as we got there right when they opened and the food was delicious! My dad said his macadamia waffle was one of the best waffles he's ever had. My avocado toast was delicious as well! First meal being in Hawaii - we came here to kill some time while we waited on our room to be ready. With the time change we sat down and ordered some food while watching MNF at 3PM. Staff was very friendly and multiple people checked on us, refilled drinks, etc. We shared the pork nachos and bao buns. We only needed a small meal to tie us over (we needed up falling asleep and missing dinner) Buns were really good - meat inside was tender and succulent, and the nachos had a solid amount of flavor and texture. I had a less-than-ideal experience at The Grove recently. Upon arriving, we were asked to take a seat, which we did. However, we then waited for over 7 minutes for service, during which time the staff seemed more focused on socializing at the bar than attending to guests. When I approached a staff member to inquire about our service--a short Asian woman with her hair in a bun--she avoided making eye contact and did not address my concerns, which was particularly frustrating. This lack of attention to customer service greatly impacted our experience negatively. What sent me over the edge was the fact the woman with a bun DEMANDED we should have a seat, and talked to us like children, instead of asking politely. Take yourself home if you're have a bad day, but if this is what you're like all the time, you're in the wrong industry. I have absolutely NO patience for bad customer service. read more

This is super close to where I live so had lunch here with a friend. I ordered a side salad with blue cheese and a flat bread pizza. I'm not sure what kind of greens they used in the salad but they tossed the salad for me in the kitchen which only made the greens soggy. Maybe if they used a crunchy type lettuce it would be ok but with the greens they used, no, hardly ate the salad. The pizza was pretty tasty and can say I liked it but the flatbread/crust was probably the frozen kind because it was perfectly round. Odd most flatbread pizzas I've had before are oblong but whatever. Service was good, a little on the expensive side but expected in this area. Aloha. I've been coming here since 2010. Our company renovated this hotel and we did all the installation of plants and pool deck and I absolutely love the chips and queso and salsa! I love the bloody mary and margaritas. I'm so sad that they got rid of all the local vodka and rum. I miss pau vodka and ocean vodka. Best servers ever! Ian is the best food runner. If you stay long enough you can catch the beautiful sunset here. They also have live music which is a plus! We shared the garlic truffle fries and spinach artichoke dip. Located inside The Modern Honolulu, this restaurant is conveniently located on the first floor adjacent to the pool. Open spacious and airy describe the interior. We went for breakfast and things are run via counter service. The menu has a good variety of offerings. We had pancakes which covered the entire plate. They were thick and fluffy. The avocado toast is well made and flavorful. The make your own omelettes are substantial and enough to share. The prices are reasonable considering the location inside of the hotel. In the afternoon, we had pool service. As someone who visits New Orleans every year, the French 75 cocktail was perfectly made. We ordered honey garlic wings and hummus with naan. On a recent pau hana walk, the two of us ventured for some great views and drinks. We ended up at the Modern Honolulu due to being over the marina. We arrived at the Grove, which sits on the pool deck. You can get here from the Modern lobby or through the Ilikai and ramp coming off the lagoon. It's pretty here with the wooden deck, large shade trees, and cozy lighting as the evening grows dark. They had a fun but short happy hour menu; we each opted for a drink and some pupu: chicken wings and fries. Prices were good. The staff here was attentive and friendly, happy to help with whatever was needed. As a beer guy, one issue: my first beer tasted very bad, maybe a badly stored keg. I asked for a replacement which was better but also off, so I think it is dirty draft lines. If a manager reads this, have your beer person check and clean the system. Next time, I'd probably go with a bottle. We're happy to have come here; we look forward to our next pau hana for sunset! read more

I did the pool side service, it's not their full menu. The flat bread pizza was more pizza than flatbread, which was fine. It wasn't too heavy but had plenty of cheese.
