I thought the decor and ambience was nice. The food was amazing and authentic. Decided to try a variety of things. The chips and salsa were tasty, but salsa could be a bit hotter for my palate. I had a chicken tamale which was super moist since it was rolled in Banana leaves. I had a fish taco which had excellent flavoring and a good Baja sauce. I had a habanero and cheese puss which had a kick of heat which I desired. The plantains were good, just a bit sweet for my taste buds. I'm glad to see that this place has five stars. As everyone mentioned, it is El Salvadorian, and it is different than your standard Mexican/Tex-Mex fair. So if you go, go with an open mind. It is, in my opinion, delicious. The pupusas are something you really do need to try. Cheese. Meat. Put some spicy stuff on top. Deliciosa. I've never been to El Salvador, but I have spent a significant amount of time in Mexico, Belize, and Costa Rica, and I've gotta say, this plays feels amazingly authentic. Does authentic automatically equate to good? I don't know, but I enjoy it. If you're in the Sherman area and you're looking for something different, check out La Placita. Broaden your horizons. I'm normally not one to write reviews, but after trying out this restaurant and speaking with the owner, I had to rave about this. Since this was a Salvadorian restaurant, the first thing I had to try was their pupusas. I've tried quite a few from different restaurants, but honestly none can compete with the ones here at La Placita. The taste was perfect and although I could have been more than happy with eating just pupusas, I had to try some of the other items on their menu. Next, I tried their "carne guisada". The meat was so tender and the combination of vegetables included in the dish really gave it a flavorful taste. I'm a really big fan of tacos, so of course I had to try these as well, and to no surprise these were just as delicious. I washed everything down with one of my favorite drinks, horchata. Again, I've had quite a few from different restaurants, but their was something different about this. The taste was so good, I finished it in no time and ordered another. Overall, I was very impressed and amazed at the quality of food at La Placita. After speaking with the owner, I completely understood why everything was so amazing. He really cares about the quality of the food, and ensures that the taste is one with the authenticity of the Salvadorian style. I'm definitely coming back to this restaurant when I'm in the area, and I have no problem recommending this place to anyone wanting to try something new at very pocket friendly prices. The best pupusa's I've ever had came a few years ago in Belize. Ever since, I've been searching Dallas for something to compare. It was not until my Sherman buddy brought me to this joint that I've found anything close. This place is the real deal. The ambiance is excellent, with Salvadorian treats lined on the walls, accompanied with South American countries' flags. Once I set a foot in the door, I knew I was going to love this place. And just as the decor was authentic, the food was on point. The fried plantains had a nice crunch and sweetness too them, without being too soggy. Definitely the best I've had in the states. I also ordered a spinach and cheese pupusa and a mixed (meat, cheese, bean) pupusa. Both rivaled those pupusas I had in Belize. I also ate a fajita beef gordita. I've driven by this place many times and to honest I was a little hesitate. Do not let the fact that it is a converted gas station scare you!! Service was great here. There were only one two staff members that spoke English. To me that wad great because I know it was authentic. Everyone was nice and service was quick. They brought out each plate as it was ready so that it was hot and fresh. My daughter had a plain cheese quesdilla. Im not sure what type of cheese (white) it was but very good. I had papusa and something that started with a G. Papusa are AMAZING!! I had the Papusa Revolta--tortilla type bread stuffed with beans, cheese, and a finely ground pork paste. The things with a G were good but not my favorite. The soft tortilla is very thick and i do not like that. There is some kind if cream on them that I learned was very tasty after I scooped it off. The shredded chicken wad better then the shredded beef. My friend had tamales with rice and refried beans. The rice he said was very good and when I tasted his beans I would bet they are made fresh from scratch. The tamales were huge! They were only 1.49 a piece and so worth it. This was the first time I had seen tamales with potatoes in them but he said they were very good. As we left I bought a large piece of cake (fed all 3 of us and had left overs) for less then $2. Not sure the name but they said it had carmle candy in it. It was possibly the best carmel I have ever had! I will be going back for more and it was less then $2. As mentioned this place isn't Mexican, it's Salvadorean so you won't see the typical Tex-Mex entrees you'll find at say On the Border. They do have tacos, tamales, etc for the non-adventurous types. The menu is fantastic and you won't believe you're getting such great food at such a low price. We stopped for dinner on the way through Sherman, and were really impressed. The service was great, and the food was freshly made, tasty, and very reasonable. We had guacamole, fried plantains, and papusas. All were excellent. A former gas station, it looks a bit rough on the outside, but the inside is very clean and comfortable. You have to walk through a bit of the kitchen to get to the restroom, and the entire place was extremely clean. It's a great value, and a welcome change from the typical Tex-Mex fare at most restaurants. I can't have wheat or dairy, and they had lots of choices that I was able to enjoy. read more

Great little El Salvadoran restaurant off Houston near WNJ hospital. Looks like it used to be an old filling station at one time. All food was very fresh. Pupusas, sweet tamales, and guacamole are my favorites. Dining room is decorated very nice and authentic. They offer baked goods to take with you. Looks like they have a food trailer to do special events with. Would've been a 5-Star if the service would've been more attentive and friendly. It is not tex-mex or even mexican food it is Salvadorian. Which has element of those others but not the same and very good. We tried many items even grab a desert bread. All was great. I'm such a fan of their pupusas that I have a standing weekly lunch date with a co-worker. You order your food at the counter and the drinks are self-serve from a refrigerated case unless you get one of the house-made juices at the counter. The mango is my favorite of the rotating flavors. In the case at the back they have bottled sodas like Mexican Coke, orange Fanta (my fave), and a crazy good banana soda or you could pick from more traditional iced teas and canned sodas. If it's your first visit the menu has pictures to show what you're getting so you can just point if you don't speak Spanish! I don't speak Spanish, but I always feel comfortable ordering in English so don't let that stop you either. Don't miss the dessert case with the chocolate cake topped with flan! The desserts are packed in to-go containers. Trust me, you won't have room for a dessert after your meal so get something for later. My standard order is 2-3 pupusas topped with the cabbage and spicy sauce and it fills me up. La Placita is in a converted gas/service station which I think really adds to the charm! It's part restaurant, part market. The owner, Walter, is really friendly and appreciative of his customers. Simply put, this is the best Salvadoran restaurant in DFW, and it is not even close. The curtido (cabbage slaw) is absolutely perfect. You will not find better. Bring your quarters and let the kids get a bubble gum ball and cheesy toy from the old school candy dispensers.
