Decided to try this place out today. I'm a huge fan of Indian cuisine but I'm a little more of a wuss on the spicy side. Got the buffet that had curry chicken, butter chicken, Peneer masala and a few other dishes. It was so delicious and very mild spicy wise which was perfect for me. A first rate Indian restaurant. They call themselves Nepali. And the entrepreneurs may easily be Nepali. In the US, calling yourself a Nepali restaurant means taking a standard North Indian menu and adding momo and some Chinese dishes. In Nepal, they eat a lot more than momo. Mountainous regions in poor countries often use forms of protein that Americans don't particularly care for. (Fill in the blanks yourself on this one.) Doing that in the U.S. would be commercial suicide. At one time, Mount Everest had goat intestine on the menu. Goat intestine is relatively un-shocking given other items that Nepalis hunt or butcher and eat. The goat intestines did not sell well and had to be removed from the menu. So mostly what you get here is a plain old North Indian restaurant. Fortunately, Mount Everest is a very good plain old North Indian restaurant. * * * The headline story here is spice. A. Lots of it. B. Not your standard Anglo-Indian curry house spice mixes. I ordered my eggplant with a heat of 4. A heat of 5 is their !!NUCLEAR!! option. 4 is their "Commands Respect- Listen to Me Baby" level. Mount Everest's 4 is most other Indians restaurants 38. Steam came out of ears. Steam came out of eyes. I was amazed my metal container was able to hold that dish. I set a Grayson County speed record for most Naan consumed in the shortest amount of time ... As vast amounts of naan were stuffed into my flaming mouth to lower the temperature. * * * I LOVED IT. I WOULD DO THAT AGAIN IN A NEW YORK MINUTE. * * * If molten lava isn't your thing Ordering your food with a heat of 0 or 1 Will give you a nice lovely very mild dish. Mount Everest caters to all tastes. * * * The spicing here is unusual. This particularly shows up in the salty lassis. I couldn't tell you what the flavor combo was. But it was intriguing and wonderful. That is another dish I would order in a New York minute. * * * Speaking of non-New-York topics, Mount Everest does its best to fit into a Texas-Oklahoma aesthetic. There is a pool table. For all I know, Texoma is full of Indian restaurants with pool tables. But that was the first time, I had ever seen such a thing. They have country-western style decoration, and guitars on the walls to help set a mood. They serve cold beer. I am not used to Texas Ice Houses that also serve Tikka Masala and Aloo Chana. But this is a concept I could definitely learn to like. * * * Overall, this is a first rate establishment. And if you want enough inner fire to be able to climb the Himalayas without wearing a parka, Order any dish with a heat of 5. The snow will melt on either side of you as you pass. read more

The food here is genuinely remarkable. Rae was an absolute ball of sunshine very welcoming and attentive to our party throughout our whole experience. When we informed her a member of our party has a dairy allergy she informed the chef and he personally came out to point out which dishes would be safe for him. Unfortunately we couldn't get the roti but staff did an amazing job accommodating to his allergy and offered to make a vegan friendly version of their naan which was amazing!!! My party came early enough to enjoy their lunch buffet (opening - 2pm) with an amazing variety of some of their more popular dishes. We were informed that the dishes on the table were on the more mild side but they were all so flavorful and I was offered some extra chili on the side to add as much as I please. We also ordered the samosas which were divine. The sauces on the side were flavored perfectly and the curry, which was safe, had the perfect spice level you could smell the aromatics the moment it was placed at the table and it was just the perfect blend and ratios. My son and I came here for our "date night" and both left saying it was one of the best meals we have ever had! We first ordered the Chicken Momos and the Garlic Naan. Excellent food. We had veggie samosas, potato chaat, mashed eggplant (baingan bhurtha), malai kofta (veggie balls in a tomato based curry sauce) and the lamb chops. We'd asked for everything to be mild, but the eggplant was quite spicy. It was still very tasty, and probably my favorite. The lamb chops were grilled and rubbed in a savory spice mixture. I have never left a bad review for Mt. Everest, and usually have fantastic food, but today we ordered Tikka Masala, Vindaloo and Veggie Biriyani (Garlic Naan of course). The Masala and Vindaloo were both (unusually) sweet with no spice. The vindaloo had 0.0 stars of heat (none) and when you add that to sweet, makes me think there was a mistake with the ingredients. OMG! For most of my life, I never thought about eating Indian food and thought it would be too spicy or too much of a strange taste so I never would even attempt it. So, one day I happened upon this restaurant after recently moving to Sherman. Then I realized it was Indian food I thought "Oh, no" but thought I'd try it. I had the chicken Vindaloo which comes with rice. I can't tell you how fresh and great this tasted. That was about 5 weeks ago, and I've been back at least once a week. I've expanded my selections a little and everything I've ever ordered or eaten here is the freshest and greatest. They don't usually have very many people eating at the restaurant (I think they do mostly to-go orders) either way it's probably the best or one of the best restaurants in Sherman. read more

Delicious food!! I've had a craving for some yummy Indian food since moving to Sherman. And this place met my needs! They have an all you can eat lunch buffet filled with authentic Indian foods. I'm so glad Yelp led us all the way to Mt Everest! Fantastic service and lush sauces more than make up for the interior design. Don't let the exterior fool you either, this is authentic Himalayan food. Veggie samosa were piping hot, and alloo naan was warm and dense inside and a crispy outside, chicken momo steamed were perfectly al dente outside with an empanada like inside and a refreshing sauce that we never did quite figure out all the ingredients. Sure was tasty trying to guess the flavors though. Lamb madras, chicken korma, and butter chicken were all perfectly spiced and came with rice that could be eaten as a meal by itself. The overall layout of the restaurant is ok. Just kinda not a neat, clean look. Service was ok. Not impressed. The flavor of the food was really solid. But the heat in the food was really hot. We asked for medium and definitely was too hot for us. Should have gone with low or no heat maybe. We tried to put out the fire with the water we ordered, but it was completely awful and undrinkable. We told the waitress and she agreed it is bad but that seems acceptable for some reason. It has potential but the lack of cleanliness in the lobby makes us wonder about the cleanliness in the kitchen I suppose. There are so many options for food and variations of the dishes I feel the really good stuff might get lost in there somewhere. The place was empty on a Sunday, we saw maybe 2 others in the hour we were there. I feel like If they can decide if they are buffet or full service restaurant (and not both) and rework their menu to focus on their strengths, and solve the water issue and cleanliness stuff they will be solid, long term restaurant. By these things can also sink them if they don't figure it out. We came because of the rating on yelp, but after trying it we don't feel 5 stars is accurate representation. But we wish them the best.
