So last evening around 8:10pm I and 2 friends walked in as we noticed their hour sign out front to be open until 10pm. We were seated and drink orders taken then almost immediately were asked what we wanted because they closed at 9 and their kitchen was closing NOW! Hesitantly we asked if we should just not order or what, but the waitress said no, I just need to put in your order... the salsa came with chips then and it looked like the absolute bottom of the barrel salsa and was pretty gross looking although it had a salsa taste and at this point we were contemplating just paying for our beverages and leaving, but we have been here many many times and always had great food & service so since I had already seen the order being put in thought we would just see it through. My friends plate was sizzling hot chicken something and my other friend said his chicken cowboy enchiladas were good, but my beef cb enchiladas tasted like the meat was scrapped from again the bottom of the cutting board dried small poop! Rice is what it is, but the beans after sitting on my plate with some of the "cheese" sauce running into them was looking like melted nasty something after you microwave un-fresh un-real food the way it was glistening in an oozy kind of way. I searched Yelp and Google for decent Tex-Mex/Mexican near the Stockyards, but initially overlooked this place because it was 3 1/2 stars and there were several 4-star places around. However, since one of those had an enormous line, and another was closed, I ended up here. I'm glad I did! The chile relleno with brisket was outstanding. The made-at-the-table guacamole was fantastic. And the margaritas were... really not that bad (a little on the sweet side, but not nearly as sweet and syrupy as most places). This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Fort Worth. I have never had a bad meal. The service is great and they have a great selection of Tex-Mex dishes. My favorite is the beef fajitas Enchiladas which are cheese enchiladas topped with beef fajitas meat plus a side of rice and beans. I see people getting a large shrimp cocktail in a big glass that looks yummy. You can go down the street to a tourist destination and wait an hour to be seated or come here where locals know the food is good, affordable, and quicker. read more

Great Mexican food! Friends who live in Fort Worth brought me to LPM for a casual dinner. The menu is expansive and it looks like they specialize in seafood but I was in the mood for some chicken enchiladas verdes and was not disappointed. The sauce was rich and just a little spicier than I am used to but absolutely fantastic! Two enchiladas with rice and beans was more than filling and tasty from start to finish. Excellent food at reasonable prices. For starters we had the Signature Queso....it comes out with a dallop of guacamole, sour cream, and beef which, when mixed in, comes out terrific. Both my date and I ordered the Mexican platter: two beef enchiladas, one cheese taco, a hard taco, and beans and rice. The beef used in the enchiladas was shredded, not ground, which made it so much better. The cheese taco had so much cheese in it that every bite left me with a long string of cheese hanging out of my mouth. The taco was so so and so were the side dishes. This time we started with the seafood cocktail. TOP NOTCH, everything was fresh and clean and we enjoyed it with some really good top shelf margaritas. Next I ordered the whole catfish as did my dining partner. The table got really quiet as we dug into some the best fish I've had in a long time. First time eating here and I was pleasantly surprised by my overall experience. The inside is very aesthetically pleasing (to me) and our server was very nice and patient. Although, the service started to get a little slow when there were only three families inside the restaurant... but, we didn't mind it and it gave us more time to chat. My Son and I had lunch here. The food was great. My son ordered an Arnold Palmer. Half Tea and Half Lemonade. We spent 50 dollars plus the tip. He asked the Manager for an Arnold Palmer to go and the Manager charged him. The Waitress didn't do a good job either. She didn't check on us. Very disappointed. My coworker told me how great this place was and even suggested the Cowboy Enchiladas. I opted for those but substituted chicken for the beef. There's a very good chance that the beef would have made all the difference but the chicken was dry chunks of flavorless chicken. It had plenty of seasoning on it judging by the color but I guess they cooked the flavor right out of it. I can't review the location as we did carry out. Ironically the seafood is no bueno at this restaurant. I understand this establishment is located in north Texas hours away from any coast. However, the prices will have you daydreaming of Mexican men fishing off the gulf and rushing it via planes to the chef in the kitchen while you so impatiently wait at your table snacking on the chips and salsa. Unfortunately the experience is far from that. I ordered the seafood enchiladas and the crab and shrimp tasted as if they were bought at the local Fiesta frozen artificial section during their lent specials. My wife ordered the "filete empanizado" and I could swear the chef must of ran out salt, pepper and all seasonings shortly before we arrived. Bottom line, the food is not terrible but for the price you are better off visiting other fine establishments, or you can simply order chicken or beef instead of the seafood. read more

Pleasant experience dining in for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Only noticed three items on the kid's menu but they had no complaints and mostly enjoyed what they ordered. Great sauce on the Camarones-a-la-Mexicana, spicy and tomato-y as it should be. Enchiladas del Mar also had a good sauce, great filling, tasty enchiladas. PERFECTLY cooked vegetables on our plates, just wish they had some seasoning; yes the flavor and texture of the vegetables comes through beautifully, but some simple seasoning while these cook would enhance that enormously, but that, of course, is just my opinion. Supposedly their shrimp cocktail is amazing.. well the shrimp was not cleaned and certainly not fresh. Also the prices they have in the drink menu are not correct.. which is false advertisement and illegal. According to the menu the mayaritas are 6.76 they charged us 15 dls per margarita? And they barely had any alcohol My husband had the carne asada. This is one of the better tex-mex establishments I have had the pleasure to eat at. I love their cheese enchiladas and their beef brisket crispy tacos. My girlfriend loves their Caldo Maya seafood soup. The wait staff is always friendly, but the older woman that hosts is curt and unfriendly. The manager is wonderful, and used to work at the Sunset location which is also very good. I highly recommend La Playa Maya to anyone looking for good quality and fresh food. read more

Eat here about once a week because it is close to us, the food of pretty good without being overpriced, and the servers know us. OK salsa, but really good guacamole (table side, you can tweak the ingredients to make it more/less spicy for instance). The Cowboy Tacos are great, decent enchiladas, chile relleno is good, and love the brisket tostados. Overall, a good frequent haunt with fairly good margaritas, and good mix of price-food-service. The only good thing I found at this restaurant was the margarita and water that I drank. I ordered the fish tacos and my husband ordered enchiladas. His beef enchilada tasted fishy, the rice had no flavor and my fish must have been catfish or something. By the time I got near the end of my second taco the fish went weird and had a taste I am unable to describe. The server continually passed us by and went to other tables. I'm not sure if it was because we were White and not Hispanic. It was clear that I was finished eating and it took her a long time to come and asked if we were done. Then it took longer to get the check. The restaurant was not that busy, so I was confused at why she was helping others more than us. Our server was fairly nice. I had pretty high expectations going into La Playa Maya since I've heard such great things about it. The food was mediocre at best. My boyfriend's ceviche didn't taste as fresh as the other restaurant we go to, and my cheese enchiladas tasted a little chewy, which I've never experienced before. However, I must say that the server that we had was very nice. My advice - go to El Rancho Grande which is nearby.
