I ordered a 1/2 sheet cake with fresh strawberries for my son's birthday. My husband picked up the cake for me and the cake basically slid apart from the top and bottom layer. I figured it night be a minor problem, no big deal. By the time I had checked on the cake again the whole thing started collapsing from all the sides and all the strawberries were outside of the cake! I basically paid $50 for a cake that fell apart! My coworker was raving about this Plaza Bakery Tortas, in Soledad. So on the way to a business meeting we stopped in for a late lunch. He ordered his Torta and since I was not in the mode for the usual totaa/sandwich/burrito, I did order the Corn and cheese tamales. After about 15minutes I was getting impatient so I asked about my order. I was told it was cooking. What? Fresh cooked tamales? that's unheard of. Ok, no sooner had I sat back down, they announced my order of two tamales. I took one bite and wow, what flavor, piping hot tamales. So naturally, got to have jalapenos with my Mexfood. They suggested a roasted jalapeno. What a flavor combination! WOW. So we colored ourselves Happy and bounced down to the city of Angels. Next day we drove back under a heavy rain storm. So my coworker, and I, after a long drive home, stopped in for dinner, but they were closed at 8pm, not realizing this we walked up to the door which was obviously locked. It was now about 8:15, they noticed us and motioned us to wait. They let us in and allowed us to order two super burittos, one asada and one veggie. I am not sure if it was the food or if we were just hungry, but they were fantastic even though we sat outside in the patio as it continues to rain. FYI-The prices don't match what they have on the board. Update: after a recent incident, I no longer set foot in the store. I had previously placed an order, the day came, I tried to pick up my order at the time I informed them. After approximately 30 minutes and several staff inquiring if I was being assisted....i was finally attended! That was the last straw. The bread is good. However the priced has increased on the Tortas and they are not as good as they used to be, I remember being able to order a turkey or chicken torta and you would get a succulent torta with real roasted chicken and now all they have is the cold meats. In that case I'll just go to a deli if I want a sandwich. read more

grew up having Mexican treats from La Plaza. Now that I moved away, we only get to visit once or twice a year. Our favorite treats are the Tortas de Carne asada or Jamon. We also like the delicious cookies, conchas, and empanadas. Yummy!! read more

Had some concerns awhile baxk about the prices for their Tortas being small for what you pay,and it seems they have fixed the issue. Still somewhat pricey for them,but they are the best in town. Staff is great when you walk in. Just need to clean the smell on the outside of the business. This is my least favorite plaza bakery and I reside here in Soledad. I rather drive to Greenfield or Salinas. The bread, food , and customer service is a lot better. You would think the bread and food would taste the same but they do not. Soledad's store is over priced and the Mexican authentic flavor of the food is subpar. Oh, the salads are horrible, plus they only offer ranch dressing. You are better of driving to Greenfield. Ive eaten delicious salads with numerous dressings to choose from. Have loved this bakery forevers even before it was moved to the other side of front st and increased in building size. But, my last experience here was horrible! When I got there, I waited for someone to attend me, I saw most employees in a rush so I didn't mind waiting, but then there were three employees free just passing by and chit-chatting! So, finally after what felt like the longest, someone attended me, they fixed my bags and then I waited at the cashier to pay, and no one would attend me. I literally took a whole half hour/30mins overall in that bakery for one bread and a drink! And since no one attended me, I asked them to please bring my stuff to the cashier already, they had been sitting behind the cashier unattended. Additionally, there was a customer who came 5 minutes after I did who waited the same amount of time as I did just to buy a bag of chips! Oh, and also another customer that was in line at the cashier before me told the cashier that he was not pleased with the amount of time they took to give him a burrito. That equals 3 unsatisfied customers in a half hour! I'm a very patient person, but today I realized that my favorite bakery is turning into the worst.
