We stopped by one morning after running some errands. Super cozy place they have agua frescas of many varieties and regular coffee or cafe de olla which is super delicious by the way. Service was good our server was very nice and patient while me and my family ordered we didn't feel rushed at all. After we ate we went to the bakery side of the restaurant so many choices from pan to pick from. Potato egg and cheese tacos are my favorite since going pescatarian. The flavor is good. The potatoes are a bit large. And I had the green sauce...I am sad to say this days flavor was very bland. I had to add salt and I don't usually have to in most of my tacos. I will try again because it is close to work. I try to give places 2nd chances. Horrible experience!! Don't buy any food here, mine was full of little black bugs. I purchased sweet bread and asked that it be put in a box. When I got home to Dallas, I opened the box and the inside was crawling with these insects. I had never been to this particular store before but never thought this would be an issue. Pretty average place, they are quick with the food and have dine in available. I do think the place is pretty pricey though, $2-$3 a taco is pretty expensive especially when they're not big tacos. The service was very friendly and attentive, I give it to the manager having to deal with all these rude customers. Service was good. The small menudo ($7.99) was not. Normally I love salty food but this was completely inedible. They were nice enough to not charge me for the bite I took. But I still went home with the taco de carne asada($3.25) that I got my husband. He said it was a little salty, too. But not bad. The chips and salsa weren't bad but they weren't great. I also got a pink cake after seeing a San Antonio Restaurant group on FB post about it. So when I saw it here, I figured why not. It was actually really good. Moist and without the flavor of box made cake. Not overly sweet and the pink royal icing frosting had a sweet crunch to it as I took one bite on my way home. The food is decent and good if you're in a rush and it always comes out fast when I order, But when I walked into this place today with a friend we both felt that we were getting discriminated because of our race. We paid in cash and the lady at the counter gave me this disgusted or annoyed look and then proceeded to roll her eyes at me when I kept pulling more cash out. But when another person walked in and started speaking Spanish, her mood completely changed and she spoke to them in a kind tone while smiling. Today I placed an order based on the menu that is online - basing myself on the prices shown online. There was a big difference in the price and it was an embarrassing situation to have a relative pick up the order only to have them pay $9 more than what was originally thought the total order would be. Enchilada plate was $1.66 more than what was online, the other plate was $4.39 MORE than what was online, and a torta shows $3.99? NOT! it was $6.50. So La Popular needs to update their menu & keep their employees aware that there IS an ONLINE MENU to avoid having their employees argue that there is no online menu & then change their story to say that the prices have changed & that the prices have gone up. This little gem has the best of both worlds. Great service if you sit down and eat, or stopping in for breakfast on a road trip or back to the house. You know you can try anything at a Mexican spot if their menudo is good. When I say good, I mean your grandmas menudo good. The "I'll never eat anyone's menudo but my grandma's" good. We've tried everything from menudo, to barbacoa, carne guisada (to die for), mini tacos, carne asada quesadillas (best for road trips), huevos rancheros, shrimp quesadillas. You name it, it's good. This use to be a great place for Sunday morning barbacoa. Unfortunately, I will not return the young lady who attended me either has problems reading a scale or is definitely cheating customers. I asked for a pound and a half of barbacoa and instead got something close to 3/4 of a pound divided in two containers, obviously to make it look like I had gotten my pound and a half, which also included more fat than actual meat. This isn't the first time this has happened, so that's why I decided to write the review and make sure never to return. The service and quality is horrible, sadly in this part of town there aren't many options so they believe they can mistreat customers. I only gave them 2 stars because their lemonade is good and one of the waitresses, Mary, is a sweetheart and will be sure to take care of you. This past Sunday a young man that works there messed up my order. I asked for a picadillo taco with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. They left that off. I asked for 2 bean and cheese chalupas with no "salad" and they put everything on it. When I called to speak with them Yvonne said that she would replace everything and when my husband went in there this morning to get that order She said she would give him the lettuce, tomato, and cheese for free.
