    Chicharron cup
    Amanda J.

I saw this spot on ElderEats IG. Looked yummy and it was up the street! I went on a Wednesday at 2:30p. I learned they closed at 3p but enough time for us to eat. The food was ! The chicharron and guacamole cup was sooooo goood! Came with plenty, definitely enough to share. The machete was good too! I didn't get a chance to try the pizza/Italian food. I didn't see anyone getting it either. But ElderEats made it look good! Be aware they automatically put tip on your bill. I found out after the fact.....

The friendly greeting and service is the first thing that struck me when I stopped into this Southside restaurant. I ordered the Chicharron (Norteno) with guacamole. It comes in a plastic cup and the cup contains way more chicharrones than it looks like it does. For the most part, the meat was a bit on the fatty side, but they were very fresh... and the guacamole was very good! The price point was about $12 (+tax), which at first I didn't think it was worth, but after discovering much more meat than I expected, it was a fair price. I would absolutely stop in again if I find myself in the area again.

It looks like ground up jerky

Foods overpriced for the quality of the food you actually get I get the service like a five out of 10 not really good. The Barbacoa really dry and didn't have that much flavor. There's other places that I have better food for less of the price and have better scores for food inspections.

1000/10! Drove from Austin just to try these! And DID NOT disappoint. Customer service was AMAZING & quick! Will most definitely be coming back more often.

The food was so good and big portions I could not even finish half before getting full , the service was amazing our waitress was so nice and kept coming to check if we were good very sweet girl, the ambience was nice and chill we enjoyed this breakfast and will be back. We had the chilaquiles plate and added sirloin and egg the other plate is huevo rancheros.

    Crumbs of chicharrón

This place is popular and busy! The wait staff are zooming around busily and although they are friendly, the place is understaffed so we only saw our waitress when she took our order, didn't check on us to refill drinks etc. I brought my mom specifically for the chicharrón because we had seen it on social media and wanted the meaty whole wands of chicharrón and we were disappointed because they served us a cup full of crumbs with the excuse that they had run out. The machete was delicious and worth the trip but can't believe they served such a poor quality product. I wasn't going to fuss, settling for less than we expected, but just prior to leaving we saw that fresh chicharrones were being served. The manager agreed to make it right and offered a fresh item at no charge but we chose to have it removed from our bill instead. Word to the wise: don't accept crumbs... better is bound to come along if you wait.

Let me tell you!!! The chicharone with guac cup is THE BEST! I don't care what anybody says. I am a chicharone/cracklin snob...I don't like everybody's chicharone/cracklins. I'm originally from Louisiana...and chicharones and cracklins are the same thing except for the spice that we cajuns love. The carnitas tacos were so good y'all! They were seasoned perfectly. When I tell you I DEVOURED them tacos. My daughter had the enchilladas...she finished the whole plate off. My hubby had the torta but he had already dug in by the time I could try to get a pic. He loved it! The service was excellent. We got a waitress that didn't speak English which didn't work well for our little Spanish. So she went to get a young man to help get our order...He even sold us on the Horchata which was also very good. Our waitress came back multiple times to make sure our food was good and we didn't need anything else. Check them out y'all!

    Tacos mañaneros mix

Good food. Real good food. The place is very.... local. Everyone was friendly & accommidating. I would suggest looking over the menu before you go if you don't speak much Spanish. Even with our very poor attempts at the language, they were very kind & patient as we struggled through with what we could. They appreciated the effort. We were there for breakfast & wanted to try a variety, so we got the tacos vapor mix & the tacos mañaneros mix. The tacos vapor are corn tortillas & steamed, the mañaneros are flour tortillas h just warmed in foil. We were both given barbacoa, papas con chorizo (potato w/spiced sausage), pollo (chicken), frijoles con chorizo (beans & sausage), & adobada (spicy pork). The spicy fillings were flavorful, but would only be considered too spicy for the most delicate of palettes. Favorite for the flour was the barbacoa- so so good. No wonder they sell it by the pound! Will be returning for that alone. But the pollo was also very tasty, especially with the green salsa. For the vapor tacos, the adobada was a real winner. It was very similar to eating a good pork tamal, which they do sell by the dozen, as well. Salsas were both good & complimented the dishes well. Everything we had was yummy, it was presented quickly, & service was very attentive. We will definitely be back for lunch.

Food is always great here, but for this review, I have yet to receive my order which made me want to make this review. As you can see on my receipt, I placed my drive thru order at 9:55 am with only one car in front of me. It is now 10:11 as I'm typing this. You can check the time on my screen next to the receipt. Over 15 min for three tacos and a $3 tea!!!

    Bean and jalapeño tamale
    Stephanie P.

These are bean and jalapeño tamales just purchased this morning. We also purchased pork which I did not get a photo of. We had company in from out of town; a town where good barbacoa and tamales are hard to find. So disappointed to offer these to my family. All masa and hardly any filling. Also, the masa was firm and dry; not tender. My parents just ordered their Christmas tamales from you guys here at La Unica a few days ago; I hope y'all get it together before then and make these with love next time.

Absolutely delicious!…read more I've been to EDA once before and have been craving their empanadas ever since! Much like last time, there seemed to be only one person running the shop, the place was sparkling clean (including the restrooms), and there was ample seating in the dining area. The music was a little too loud, especially so in the bathroom, but otherwise the café was so nice. The menu is chock-full of delicious sounding dishes and boba drinks, but I opted for two of their ready to go empanadas. I had the Beef & Cheese, and the Chicken Salteña Empanadas. Both were super yummy and neither the beef nor chicken was dry inside. The fillings were savory, the Beef & Cheese amazingly creamy, and the Chicken Salteña a good blend of spices. The raisins in the Salteña did throw me off for a moment as I didn't think they worked all too well with the rest of the texture of the filling, but it didn't detract too much from the empanada. The dipping sauce that they came with was so tasty and flavorful as well! I was only able to finish half of each empanada because they were so big, but the server was kind enough to give me extra sauce with my to-go box. It added another layer of tastiness to the experience! EDA is a little out of the way for me so I'm not able to go as much as I'd like, but I know I'll be stopping in to snag an empanada or a boba tea when I'm in the area. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try!

The Royal Pasty serves up baked empanadas, not fried. The empanadas are large and stuffed with a variety of different fillings. There's a long list of about ten different empanada filling options. They even have combo boxes in multiples of threes where you can save by mixing and matching empanadas! My favorite was the beef ones, the crust was flaky and soft. They have a professional empanada press where they imprint the empanada filling type on the crust with a two-letter code so you know what you're about to get into. The sauces were delicious! They offer a type of chimichurri sauce that's incredible, and a spicy version that's not too spicy at all. The empanada flavors were more imaginative than the empanada stands you typically see- a pulled pork option, bacon and eggs for a breakfast empanada, beef and cheese- there's much more than the typical ham and cheese and beef. The best option- triple cheese! Nom. This ghost kitchen is only for pickup. No dining in. My son and I both like Colombian food based on visits to a competitor that we have gone to many times closer to our house. When I mentioned this place to him, he said we should try it out soon. Today was the day. The first thing I noticed was the size of the dining room. It was roomy with several tables that were appropriately spread out. The decor is attractive with eye catching art painted on the white walls. The tables all have a splash of color on them, as well. Altogether is creates a bright and cheery atmosphere. We were very comfortable. I also noticed that the one television on the far wall was showing Univision and the music being played was in Spanish. I really like the music of a restaurant to reflect the nationality of the cuisine. Our server was an extremely helpful young man. He helped us with the menu. Unlike what is stated in other reviews, the food is described in english. Unfortunately, there are some items that don't translate. Those are the ones I needed help with. We both ended up ordering the same thing. It was lengua in a delicious tomato sauce served with french fries, avocado slices, white rice, salad, and a fried plantain patty. The amount of food on the plates was absolutely outrageous, but we managed to get pretty danged close to clean plates. The flavors were really nice. There was a huge squeeze bottle of Salsa Colombiana (I think that's what he called it) and another with Salsa tartara, the Columbian version of tartar sauce. It was amazing. It was creamy and savory without that sweet pickle taste American folk put on seafood. For drinks, I had a jugo de pina. My son had one made with passion fruit. I heard them being made fresh in the kitchen. They blended the fresh fruit with some water or milk and ice. Mine was really refreshing. It was served in those giant iced tea glasses some places use. There was a lady and her son at another table. I listened as they ordered in Spanish. They asked almost the same questions as we did, so being fluent in Spanish must not mean you would understand the Colombia specific food vocabulary. As we were paying our bill, the lady was pointing to everything on her plate asking "What is this?" in Spanish. I found that a little humorous, as the explanations when ordering were pretty good. My son and I had not problems recognizing the foods on our plate based on what we had heard. On our way home, we passed by the Bandera location. My son pointed it out to me. I don't remember ever seeing it there, but my son says he knew about it. That made me wonder why we frequented the competitor on Tezel where we like the food, but felt uncomfortable being packed in so close in the tiny dining room. In the truck, my son was already telling me what he planned to eat next time. There will definitely be a next time. I need to try their arepas and empanadas, as well as some other jugos.
