I have been looking for Mexican sweet bread for a long time. Many bakeries have a few types here and there but Mayra's Bakery has everything I was looking for. I grew up in El Paso, Texas where we have Bowie Bakery. There will never be another Bowie Bakery but Mayra's comes close, they sell pretty much all the sweet bread I grew up loving. I recommend it 100%.

Last week I needed pan dulce and I found this place and man was it good! The customer service was great it was full but it was quick and the ladies were so nice and patient with me. The bread was so soft and moist you could tell it's freshly baked bread. Will definitely come back!

This is one of the best bakeries for pan dulce in the area. The bread is always fresh and reasonably priced. I've been to other places where the bread is stale, but not here--it's consistently soft and flavorful. The flavors are authentic, and the shop is always clean. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making every visit a pleasure. I'm so glad to have this hidden gem nearby!

We have a bakery closer to our home but they honestly always have stale items; we much preferred this place. Be advised that one of the streets nearby is currently under construction so if your gps flags you a different route, I suggest taking it.

Im so glad we have this bakery near by! Their bread is always fresh and they have a good variety of it. They have the bread behind glass counters so they attend to you and give you what you want. $20 gives you about 10-13 pieces or so, depends if you get filled or not, filled is more expensive of course. They also have cake squares, cupcakes, filled churros, and rollos de cajeta(rolled sponge cake w/ filling). My fave is the pink squared cake! So soft and delicious! They're open late too!

Always a very friendly experience here. My wife tries to stop by anytime we're in the area and it's pretty close to our house. We also have family come from out of town and they always ask us to stop here. We've tried a bunch of different pasties and they are all so fluffy and delicious. Unfortunately I did not take pictures but after my first time there, I know it won't be my last so I will update with pics at a later time. The pastries were fresh and soft. They had a huge variety to choose from and staff were very friendly and helpful. Their prices are incredibly cheap and the business was very clean and organized. read more

This is one of the best bakeries for pan dulce in the area. The bread is always fresh and reasonably priced. I've been to other places where the bread is stale, but not here--it's consistently soft and flavorful. The flavors are authentic, and the shop is always clean. I got a good selection of items for my family and they all liked it. I got a mano, marranito, 2 empanadas, 10 mini conchas, campechana. Love the variety and how they looked freshly made. Husband was on his was to the closest La Popular. Pulled up around 6pm and it was closed. We live off 78/Walzem. He looked up Mexican bakeries and saw Mayra's . He decided to take a chance. Let me tell you.... Nice selection and soft fresh dolce. We drive an extra 4 miles to come here. They need more advertisement as they are located in a subdivision type strip center and they beat the others by taste and freshness . If you're up for fresh dolce anytime of day. Take a drive here, they are open till 9pm . They are NOT like the other bakeries all over San Antonio that are out or not soft. They have all the regulars plus more! You'll be so happy you did! read more

The bread is undeniably good here. However, they don't adhere to their stated closing hours. Made a 20 minute drive and arrived at 7:30 only for the lady to refuse service to me. She wouldn't tell me why either. read more

Came in for the first time for some Mexican sweets. It was around 4 pm. It wasn't busy nor were there a lot of customers, but the few customers that there were ordered huge quantities of items. It was overwhelming with the selection so I didn't get any pictures and my kids ate the sweets in the car. I got some wedding cookies which were so delicious, churros that would've been the best churros had they been kept in a warmer, and some pink cookies. There were no labels and the owner didn't speak English well so there was a lot of pointing at the display. Customer service was great and patient. Definitely will be back for more orders and pictures. read more

I don't think I would of found this bakery if It wasn't recommended by someone. The bread is really fresh and soft, really good pan dulce! I placed an order of small conchas a day ahead to take my coworkers. Order was ready on time and everyone enjoyed them. Only thing is that no prices are posted. read more

I recently visited Mayra's bakery and was pleasantly surprised! The conchas were so incredibly soft and fresh. They tasted delicious! The empanadas were also quite tasty. The value was absolutely incredible as I was able to get several bags of pastries for less than $20. I highly recommend Mayra's! Although other comments mentioned a language barrier I found extremely easy to communicate with the employee. read more

For consistency in early morning breakfast items, I could have easily gone to Krispy Kreme, where you know exactly what you're getting when the doors open. That said, 85°C is convenient and their mango smoothies are great. Overall, it's a decent spot, but I wouldn't recommend going first thing in the morning if you're expecting a full pastry selection.

The concha is super good, better than HEB's lol it's soft and the dusting of sugar on top makes it extra sweet and has more of a crunch. The pink cake is better than most I've tried - it's SO tall and has a soft and moist crumb, the icing is sweet but thin so not overpowering. Two pan dulce and two shortbread cookies was $4.45.

Most of the steam buns are about $5.00 and are good for three bites. The bowls selection reminded me of ordering at Chipotle, but with an Asian flare. The high point was the service. We had a very attentive food runner that cared and was very nice.

As I said, everything was phenomenal. Unfortunately, there is one issue we cannot look past, although we have tried. The bagels are delicious, but they are the absolute wettest, slippery and slidey-est bagels I've ever had in my life. The meal is spent looking down and hoping my beloved or other guests don't see the schmear up to my nose. By the end, we are having to reconstruct our bagel, as it looks like roadkill on the table. It is not a user error, as we eat slowly and carefully. I even have friends who refuse to come back here because it was the messiest eating experience of their lives. It's so unbelievably messy. We have to rinse off in their bathroom before leaving. I have to take my rings off and put my hair up. It's a commitment, one we are not strong enough to make at this point. Delicious, but.... we must bid you farewell, Boss Bagel. Godspeed.

All things in my mind brought this down from a 5 star to a 4. Clean up the tables is definitely something the restaurant has control over. We sat down, and the acetone smell dissipated so either I was use to it or they turned down a shared ventilation system. The food though was the big surprise! It was excellent. We ordered the Special House Bun with beef, pork, chicken, shrimp and a crispy egg roll. The proportion of vermicelli noodles to fresh lettuce, carrots, cucumber, bean sprouts and peanuts provide d that perfect bite were one ingredient dominated the other. All the proteins were cooked perfectly. The real winner was the lemongrass Banh mi with once again perfectly proportioned ingredients. We also ordered the fresh spring roll, which never came but wasn't missed except that they did try to charge us for but did remove them. They definitely have some work to make this a comfortable dining experience but I wouldn't let it stop you from trying some phenomenal Vietnamese food.
