Being a turn and a block away from our hotel, we were excited to try this establishment. We were seated quickly and our server was at our table shortly after. We ordered chips, salsa and drinks to start with. The salsa had a nice kick to it. Not sure if they'll refill you on chips since you pay for them. I ordered Baja shrimp tacos with street corn and my husband got the fresh catch tacos with street corn. His came out correct; mine ended up coming out as fried fish which ended up not being a big deal, not worth the hassle of telling them and was just as delicious. The street corn was to die for yummy! Overpriced And Overly Complicated Went with three friends before a Padres game; the first thing that strikes you is the lack of chips and salsa. But then the drink prices slap you in the face. $8 for a can of Mexican lager? Another $4 to add tomato juice? Fish tacos were the high point; made to order; fresh and hot. But $8 each for what nobody else would have the guts to charge more than $5. And still not salsa. A Mexican pizza was good, but the crema was overpowering. A simple queso fundido is ruined by a mysterious "3 cheese sauce" that tastes suspiciously like still more crema. It's not hard: chorizo, chopped peppers, and Oaxaca cheese. But it topped with Oaxaca, not made with it. And the chips were cold and stale. We paid $160 for two rounds of drinks and some heavy appetizers. Nowhere near worth it. read more

We ordered queso fundido (fyi...don't call that bc it's an insult to the dish and it's best categorized as GOO), a basket of chips and salsa (the chips were the best thing), flautas weren't half bad, a strawberry lemonade (hideous, what an after taste!), Cadillac margaritas (more like juice from the local Von's market ) and a Mango margarita (way too sweet and again more like juice). We did ordered and extra shot for the Mango margarita that stayed on the bar counter, until we were ready to pay, only to be told, they just put it out; um no, it was sitting there for sometime. We had fantastic service! We were not rushed; our appetizers and drinks came out first and we were able to enjoy them before our main meal arrived. We ordered a second round of drinks and enjoyed our company before heading to a concert around the corner at Petco park. What a great place to pre game. We made reservations ahead of time because I've heard it' gets super busy. They have some out door seating. The carne asada tacos were super tasty and the Mexican street corn side was delicious with just enough spice. The ceviche was fantastic and the housemade chips made all the difference holding up to the weight of the ceviche and the salsa. The drinks were great a little on the pricey side but still delicious. I came here before the Padres game and we were able to squeeze in an order 2 mins before the Happy Hour ended! I had the House Margarita $8, Queso Fundido Supremo $11, Fresh Catch Taco $8, & Baja Shrimp Taco $8. Good amount of food but of course, the tacos are a bit pricey since other places in SD have tacos that are $5. Queso was cheesy and warm with a good amount of chips. We have been coming here for years during Comic Con for lunch, dinner, and drinks. We most likely spend up to $250 dollars a day here. This week has probably prompted us to find a new spot... especially today. The customer service has really gone down hill. The bartenders' attitudes are awful. Today we had a bartender that was so rude and disrespectful, we had to ask that he not serve us. On top of that he was constantly wiping his nose while handling food and drinks, taking shots behind the bar and complaining about how he hates working Comic Con and was supposed to be off today. If you were there today, he's the guy in the Batman shirt and jorts. My advice is that if this guy is working the bar, go somewhere else. read more

I came here on a Thursday evening, and the place was pretty busy. The service was awesome, and the whole spot had a really fun energy to it. They're also dog friendly if you sit out on the patio, which is always a huge plus. We ordered the nachos, and they were amazing. The portion was huge, fully loaded, and easily enough to share between the six of us. They also have tons of TVs throughout the place, making it a great spot to catch a game or any event. One of my favorite places to grab a bite in the area. Parking can be a challenge if you are driving, but that's downtown for you. The restaurant is pretty spacious and usually when i come, they are fairly busy during lunch. This time we got seated quickly for our group of 4. Like a lot of restaurants are doing nowadays you won't get free chips and salsa, but they are on the menu to order. Two of the people in my group ordered the enchiladas and they both said they were really good and their plates were completely wiped clean so I believe them LOL. We ordered chips and guacamole for the table, they refilled the chips but not the clock of course. It was pretty solid as far as far as guacamole goes, I order it again. I personally got the surf and turf tacos with the elote in a bowl. Normally I do not like elote in a bowl I only like it on the cob, but this is really good and I would definitely order it again. The servers were very nice and accommodating. Parking can be a challenge during busy times as it's in the Gaslamp so either Street parking, or a lot if you can find it. Came during the off-season on a cool Friday night, so the place was really empty. Service was really friendly and left us alone mostly. I do appreciate how they filled up the waters fairly regularly. We started off with the ceviche, which was good but didn't seem quite as fresh. I created a nice bowl by adding in pork and salmon. While it was good, I was disappointed that it was a small portion, not as seared crispy outside, and raw inside as I had requested so it was a little dry. The pork was a little salty as well. Overall, it was good, but nothing exceptional. We were originally planning on going to Baja Rick's but it closed early and confuse the blind burro with Baja rock'n lobster!?! so many options here! read more

She apologize and so did I but not anyone's fault the other costumer was entitles.. he was also with a child so of course I didn't make a fuss. When I got seated I ordered a strawberry margarita and the street tacos with carne asada. The tortilla was a fresh made one, a little more greasy than I'd like, the carne asada was tender, had great marinade and little chard pieces that gave it more flavor. We were headed to a concert at Petco and wanted to grab a few drinks beforehand and an appetizer. This was the least busy place out of all the spots around--and now I know why. We sat down, and it took quite a while for us to be attended to. The place itself looks good: not outdated and kept clean. However, the drinks were lackluster. We ordered a margarita, a Stone Buenaveza, and another fruit-based drink. The beer was nice and cold, but the other two cocktails were not good at all. We also ordered the "Queso Chorizo Fondio," and it was completely flavorless--not worth the calories. I can't speak for anything else on the menu, but if that's how a starter is, we won't be coming back for the main dishes. If you're in the area and just want some beers, this place is fine. For anything else, I'd suggest looking elsewhere--even waiting to get seated somewhere else would probably be worth the time. read more

Trained down to Petco Park for a Padre's day game on Wednesday. 2nd year in a row, dined for Mexican lunch at the Blind Burrow. Outstanding drink specials, we enjoyed Cucumber tequila Paloma's (dbls!) along with tacos, multiple kinds. Joe had lobster tacos with the kale Cole slaw, Tommy enjoyed the generous 3 plate of street tacos (he could only finish 2) so deliciously filled with meats & creamy guacamole. I loved my grilled shrimp tacos w/avocado, aioli sauce & bacon bits & a side of pinto beans. Crowded, but service was terrific, food delicious, we only had to walk across the street to enjoy the dramatic bottom of the 9th walk-off Tatis dinger giving us a 5-4 WIN. The Gaslamp has literally hundreds of choices for food.. this place is just across the street from Petco park. I got the Machaca Tacos which were really, really good. IYKYK about good Machaca.. the eggs have to be seasoned just right and mixed with the beef just right or else it's just scrambled eggs and meat.. these tacos were absolutely fantastic! I think they only serve them on weekends so check before you order. I have never seen them with the added nuts and seeds..great addition. Took a star off for not checking if we needed refills on our iced tea (we did) but not that big of a deal. read more

We met some friends at Blind Burro on the morning of the Padres Opening Day. The place was absolutely packed. Nuts to butts people, yet somehow our friends were able to snag a table in the bar area. After letting the bouncer at the door know that we weren't trying to skip the line, we were just meeting friends, he allowed us entry. We found our friends, rather, they found us as they saw us walk up. Not long after we sat we were approached by our lovely young server. She was amazing. I wish that I had gotten her name to give her proper kudos. We were there just for a few drinks and she was on top of it. She had to squeeze through the mass of standing room only people to deliver drinks and food and take orders. Somehow she pulled it off. We were never left waiting. (Management: Opening Day, two couples at the 4-top near the entrance, by the satellite bar at the windows. Our server was fantastic!) Good drinks, good times, great service. It's definitely more of a bar vibe, but we were pleasantly surprised at the taste of the food, plus our server was very nice and attentive. Our group had the burro bowl (salmon, shrimp, asada) and all agreed each one was very tasty. Luckily we had ordered guacamole and a side of sour cream for another person, so we added some of that along with salsa and that really brought it to the next level! The al pastor torta was good (according tot he people that had it). I was at conference at the convention center and this spot was relatively close to walk to. I've been to SD many times before, but this was the first time I have been to this restaurant. The moment you walk in you can tell it's a cool spot to just hang and watch sports. The bar(s) are welcoming layout is designed in a way where you can see a TV on any screen. I came in with a relatively large party, and the waitress was amazing. She took care of us and made sure all was done well. I ordered the chilaquiles and thought they were good. It was pretty quiet at the Blind Burro on a Sat morning after Diplo's Run Club had an event down the street at Gallagher Square. We sat in the patio bar area which is just great people watching so I love it. I ordered the street tacos with carne asada and oh man, they were delicious but that habanero sauce on there was spicy! I judge Mexican food restaurants based on the chips and salsa and both were very tasty. Prices were very reasonable and overall it was a great experience. My friends and I stopped by The Blind Burro during peak brunch time on Sunday after a big running race. We had 11 people and very little hopes to be seated but the restaurant did not disappoint. We were able to be seated immediately and were pleasantly surprised by brunch specials - $20 for mimosa set (a bottle of champagne with four different juices) and a HUGE, I repeat, absolutely MASSIVE breakfast burrito for $22. My partner and I ended up ordering one for two of us and both were very full. What a great value for the price. We will be back for mimosas and breakfast burrito! read more

I went here with my family we got seated right away but the communication from our server regarding our food and drinks was lacking throughout the visit. That being said, the wait and service are not the reason I'm writing this review. My boyfriend found a piece of stainless-steel wool from the scouring pad in his food YES, the same type used to scrub pots and pans. He actually had it in his mouth and had to pull it out himself. It was extremely disturbing and unacceptable!! We immediately brought it to our server's attention. She took the piece away, otherwise I would have taken a photo and included it with this review. When the manager, Ana, came to speak with us, her response was simply, "that's a bummer" and after the second time I spoke to her because I was in SHOCK to hear that was her response she now said to me "That's unfortunate." There was no sincere apology, concern, or sense of urgency. Her reaction was disappointing and unprofessional. I'm honestly not sure how someone with that attitude is managing customer concerns. I asked who the General Manager was and was told it is Ryan. Ryan, I truly hope you look into this incident and the way it was handled by Ana. Finding metal in a customer's food is serious enough, but the complete lack of concern afterward made the experience even worse. read more

I was staying at Margaritaville across the street and just happened to find this place. I ordered a Burro Bowl with carnitas and it was delicious. The dish has a good balance of everything. Their mocktail (watermelon fauxito) was so refreshing and I just wanted more and more! Service was amazing as well. I was in San Diego for work with a team from Miami and this place became our favorite place. We ordered lunch from them a few times and their machetes were absolute hit among all of us and we got super hooked on them! read more

After a morning herding cats at the Bayfront Hilton and the Convention Center (IYKYK), I was in need of a drink... and a seat. Thing is, during a hectic convention, full of out of towners and short on time, one doesn't have the luxury of perusing lots of dining options. One opts for the convenient and close. Thus, my colleague and I wound up at The Blind Burro. This is not a dig at TBB. It has tons of a reviews and many of those are from locals. The people like what they like. But the fact of the matter is that location is a key factor in the health and success of a business and being within walking distance of a MLB ballpark, major convention center and smack dab in one of the biggest tourist draws in SD means that you don't have to work very hard. It is what it is. Like I mentioned earlier, my thirst was epic, my nerves were fraught, my hunger was getting there, and my time was short. We snagged a seat outside and... waited. And waited. And waited a bit more. The place was busy, but I have to imagine that a place like TBB knows how to deal with crowds. It's the nature of the beast/location. By the time our server deigned to wait on us, I knew what I wanted. I ordered a harvest sangria and the lobster tacos. The sangria came with a bit more ice than I would have liked but it was also served in a decently large glass. The combo of cabernet, orange liqueur, blackberry brandy, pomegranate juice, lime juice, lemon juice, and fruit was pleasing to the eye, my mouth and my BAL. The food was more of a mixed bag. The tacos (two) were of a barely generous size (always a risk when ordering seafood tacos; thought I was safer since I was in a coastal city) but they tasted fine. Inside each corn tortilla was a combo of lobster, pico de gallo, garlic butter, cabbage, avocado, and cilantro. Tasted fine but for the cost I would have liked a bit more. The black beans side were awful. No sugar coating. The beans were terrible -- bland on the front end and acrid going down. I don't even know how that was possible but there you have it. Two meals, two drinks, tax and tip came out to over $100. Overpriced for what it was but I get it: location, time of year, captive audience. No one forced me to order what I ordered but... yeah. TBB has this down to a science. I can't hate the player but I'm not that fond of the game. read more

I totally get why my friends in San Diego say this is their fave lunch spot for workdays and a perfect pre-party stop for concerts and evenings out. The atmosphere is great, the staff is kind, and both the food and drinks were perfect. It's quite a large place, but the open air setup was my favorite. I'm a people watcher. Mix in a tequila espresso martini and probably the best quesadilla (called something else) I've had and hot dogs for my friends that they raved about, perfect win for us. In lieu of ballpark food we came -pre game and I had a great tap beer the name of which I do not recall, two meaty chicken tacos and really delicious pinto beans. Been here twice, once before and after a Padres game. If you leave the game in the 8th inning and get there before everyone else leaves, it's easy to find a table. If you leave the game when everyone else does, it's a risk. It filled up really fast once the game ended. If you get there 30-45 min before a game, it will be packed. For a table of 2, the wait was surprisingly short - 10 min. We ended up finding seats at the bar instead. They are a well run machine. Service is great, everyone is friendly, and you do not feel like you're being ignored despite how busy they are. Food is decent, but we mainly came for drinks. They have a great happy hour. If you don't see the specials listed, ask! When we went, it started at 3pm. Grab the tall can of Estrella and a shot of Casamigos for $18! It's a great deal. Their queso dip is really good and filling. It was a lot for two people. It's a sports bar/restaurant vibe. No one is dressed up when we've come. According to my Yelp history, I've been eating here for over 10 years, almost all of which is during Comic Con weekend. Blind Burro is a good place...you come for the lively ambience, festive downtown crowd, for some elevated and a bit overpriced Mexican food. Service from the staff is always friendly and attentive. Inflation! The Chimichanga Burrito went from $18 to $23 in just a year...I remember it being good but not that good. It's enough food for the average American, but my beer belly needs more. I opted for the $16 Nachos, and added carne asada for extra $6, for a total of $22. This was a lot of food! A generous pile of flour and corn tortilla chips, covered in queso manchego, triple chile cheese sauce, pico de gallo, radish, candied jalapeños, guacamole, queso cotija and that extra $6 carne asada that was beefy, tender, and delicious! I ate about 2/3rds of this before giving up and sharing with my friends. This is the best bang for your burro! read more

We really enjoyed this place because of it's location, vibe inside the bar/restaurant, and beer selection. There were 6 in our group so we were able to order a variety of items to share. Everything was good but not anything new or different from other restaurants. The tacos and bowls were very tasty as were the nachos. My one recommendation is to change or get rid of the TJ Dog. I am a huge fan of TJ dogs and this one was very underwhelming for a couple of reasons: bun was like a Ball Park bun but was dry, the hot dog was on the skinny side and too cooked, and the bacon was a thin strip hardly present. It lacked the "white" sauce that they use on the streets and the pepper/onions were really soggy. Ironically, we could have walked 50 yards down the street (outside of Petco) and got a TJ dog with freshly cooked ingredients, big dog, and big bacon. Just a recommendation since we live in SoCal and we know our "street dogs." read more
