OMG! We came here for Drag Brunch and it was AMAZING! We had a reservation for the noon sitting and were seated right away when we arrived. La Pulperia offers all-you-can-drink mimosas for $40 or their brunch cocktails for $60 for a 90-minute sitting. I had the all-you-can-drink cocktails and my glass was never empty. The staff was great and very attentive - they would check in before bringing a new drink, but it was never long before it was delivered. The food was also delicious. We started with guacamole and corn & manchego empanadas. The guacamole was obviously fresh, and the empanadas were hot and cheesy. I had the Pulled Pork Tostada - it came with two eggs on top of beans, tortillas, and tender pulled pork. My mom had the burger, and it was cooked to perfection and huge. My aunt had the Market Salad with Skirt Steak, and she raved about the steak. Now the show - the show was AMAZING! The queens were engaging, and their dance moves were unreal! It was one of the best drag shows I have ever seen! It would get a 20 out of 10 if that were possible. What a great experience, it was one of the highlights of our trip. read more

I came here for the first time with one of my girlfriends after work. The server was so kind to explain the menu items to us, and answered all of our questions. The decor is cute and the food is so delicious. Once we found out they were going to shut down at the end of the year, we came back with the gang for brunch. The steak is so tender. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a decent experience. Had a reservation and our table was ready upon arrival. Staff was diligent in taking beverage orders. Started off with the skirt steak with fries and it was surprisingly decent. Requested for medium rare and the steak came out as such. The skirt steak was juicy, flavorful, albeit slightly oversalted. The green salad was light and refreshing while the french fries were served a touch cold. Ordered a side of broccoli rabe and it was also excellent. Jamie W and I just came out of a great Broadway show, "Hell's Kitchen", the Alicia Keys musical (review: https://yelp.to/fDv3SjBbJC), and naturally we were feeling peckish. We didn't want to venture far from our hotel, so we just went down to the corner of 44th and 7th. A couple of nights before, we had a pretty good Italian dinner at Mama Mia right across the street (review: https://yelp.to/2O8ECsc-14). You'd think we would go Italian again, but no, we were in the middle of Manhattan near midnight and wanted to try something new. We decided to try this stylish-looking Latin restaurant on the other corner. We were a bit perplexed why it felt so empty with the post-show crowds in full swing outside. On the upside, the host was effusive and attentive. I like a guy with a positive attitude no matter how slow business might be. The interior was bathed in deep pink and purple lighting that made me think they were developing pictures. Either that or we stumbled into a very quiet gay club. We perused the tablet containing the entire menu and both of us decided to order the $26 Pulperia Burger, a tender patty made of ribeye and skirt steak topped with melted cheddar and encased in a brioche bun. Returned to La Pulperia and enjoyed another memorable meal. Our server was exceptional, gave us a great "specials" recommendation, checked on us regularly, and we shared a few comedic moments that added to the memories.  Our libations, Coquito Passion...Paloma Sur...Pulperia HK, were colorful, strong, and with vibrant presentations. We ordered the recommended special and it was VERY GOOD (yuca/cassava, wrapped in Cuddle Fish ink, with grilled calamari, and a crispy garnish that made it enjoyable. Sharing the Guacamole & Lobster Taquito appetizers was just as delightful. Everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and were good selections. Our chocolate cake, with vanilla ice cream, was the perfect dessert to share, as well. So as you may have noticed, when we depart on each new road adventure we try and keep our followers in the loop. We want to avoid any confusion related to the location of the posts that immediately follow, and we also want to hear if you have any great suggestions for us to experience and then share with others. It is for that second reason that we are most grateful to @alan_howe because when he read that we were headed to NYC he enthusiastically submitted several recommendations including "La Pulperia." Their menu features rustic Latin cuisine and we found it immediately intriguing. We began our journey with the "King Crab Guacamole" and "Beef Empanadas" before transitioning to the "Roasted Chicken" and the "Moqueca Mixta." The latter was so unbelievably delicious that our server brought over what we spontaneously referred to as "the mercy spoon" because he simply could no longer bear to watch me futilely attempt to extract the remnants of the sauce with my fork. (Sorry, not sorry.) Just when we thought our meals couldn't possibly get any better Alan insisted that we try a "Pisco Sour" (which may just be the best cocktail that we've ever enjoyed). You won't find it on the menu, so you'll need to drop Alan's name in order to be granted access to it. That might feel initially unnatural, but you'll get used to it. Heck, I've been riding Alan's coattails for years! Some would tell you that I have a way with words (and by that they'd mean that I use way too many of them). It's with that backdrop that I report that my meal was so incredible that...I was speechless for a period of time (fact). When I did regain my ability to speak I found myself suddenly able to speak in foreign languages (slight exaggeration). While I've always held Alan in high esteem, I'm now feeling even more grateful for the ability to benefit from the exceptional cuisine standards of such a good friend. The food itself is fine, I wanted to focus more on the ambiance and vibe. I've come here a few times only for their drag brunch on the weekends and I don't know why I keep coming back because I get completely blacked out and have the best time (as far as I remember). I've done both bottomless mimosas and then the more expensive margaritas and they're quite expensive but if you want to not remember anything, both will work. A wonderful gem sitting on the corner of 44th street and 9th Aveneue. La Pulperia will easily become a regular go to spot for me when in the area. My friend and I finally reunited after 3 years due to the pandemic. We were looking for a spot that offered a cool, chill vibe as well as good food. Enter La Pulperia--a Latin American hot spot that has everything you might be looking for. Happy Hour food and drinks were offered at the bar and table ($1 extra per item at the table) so it was no surprise most seats were taken at the bar when I arrived. In just a few minutes the host was able to pull 2 chairs together as I waited for my friend. The menu was diverse with great selections. When my friend arrived, and was settling, Red Sangria was beckoning which we ordered (with a request for not sweet). It was delicious--not too strong and refreshing. As far as food, the guacamole from the HH menu was a must try. I'm glad we did. The serving was plentiful for two with a switch of 3 round, crisp mini tortillas instead of a basket of chips. I'm used to the chips but it was well made and flavorful. The star of the show was the main entree. We chose the Octopus Paella with the option of black rice. It took some time to be served but once it arrived, we were amazed at the presentation and portion. As we began eating, the flavors were on another level. An octopus strip lay on top the rice which included a medley of shrimp, calamari and scallops. It was out of this world delicious and could possibly serve 3 people with the order of additional appetizers. We were looking for dinner before a show and came across this place. If you tell them you have a show to catch, they'll make sure you get out on time and rush your food orders which we appreciated. They do have a prefix theater menu but we ended up just sticking with the regular menu. Everything we got was delicious, flavorful and filling. Wow, where do I begin about this place!!! From the moment me and my friends walked in we were pleasantly greeted by the host. Our table was ready and our waiter Bryan was absoultely wonderful. Went for a bite to eat at the tail end of Happy Hour... The draw to this place was the fresh raw oysters. They were fresh and delicious but what made my evening was the mignonette sauce that was served with the Oysters. I fell in Love with the vinegar based sauce which I never had before. Don't know why everywhere doesn't serve this with fresh oysters because it was delicious! And who doesn't love a fresh Guacamole? The Guac here is freshly made and also super delicious. The Queso Fundido was different. I liked it, but as the dish cooled the cheese became a little difficult to eat. I sat a the bar since that's where the Happy hour specials take place. It's not a large bar so thankfully there was room when I arrived. My drink of choice was the Columbian Passion. It wasn't bad, just not my cup of tea. I'll try something else the next time.... I heard they are known for their drag brunch so Maybe one day I'll get to experience it. Love the atmosphere and decor of LA Pulperia. I came here for a bachelorette party on Saturday with a group of 14 We were sitting in a long table all the way in the back. The first session was at noon. There's no reason to get there earlier than noon because the restaurant doesn't open until 12PM on the dot. They seat you and will start taking drink and food orders very quickly. The host, Misty Mountain D walks around to each table to chat and will also help exchange any big bills that you have for singles. (The singles come in handy for tipping the drag queens as they are performing, it is all part of the experience!) The queens are so funny and so talented. The food is good. I got the steak and fries and it was cooked perfectly with a nice char. They do warn you that after their show, they have another seating at 2:30 and pretty quickly ask everyone to leave as quickly as possible. Understandable but it is a mad dash to wrap everything up, go to the bathroom and get out of the servers' way. read more

Amazing food. Just simply amazing. Bewitching even. Came here on a Tuesday night (not exactly a going out night) and pretty early too around 6:30 or so. Ordered seafood and the name sake of the restaurant: The Octopus. What arrived was an obscenity of deliciousness. Tentacle was very large with garnish of the Parsnip Puree. It was incredibly soft and tasty. Our server Alejandra was was great and very knowledgeable and made suggestions that were right on point. Guacamole, Lobster Taquitos, Ceviche, my god those were delicious! But the key was the namesake of the restaurant. Octopus was not just delicious it was obscenely so! Cocktails were great even though I don't particularly like them (I think that straight up drink is better). And then to top it all off were the Churros. Best ones I've had since Spain and they were missing the melted chocolate (that might be a great idea). One thing though I didn't count on were the musicians. We came here because of restaurant week. The service of the staff is impeccable. The inside noise level was really loud to the point where you can't really hear the people at your own table. I ordered the ceviche mix and it was fresh, amazing seasoning and plentiful portions of meat. My friends' 2 piece crab empanada was creamy and the pastry was very flakey. For my main dish, I ordered the fish of the day. It was a blackened sea bass which was cooked nicely but the seasoning was on the more bland side. The molten lava cake was the biggest disappointment--the exterior of the cake was hard and only a little bit of the inside was actually molten. Not sure what the whipped cream was but wish it was creamier. Everything tasted good but nothing that blew me away. I left super full but didn't quite feel like I got my money's worth on the $60 fixed menu. Glad I stopped by to give it a try! Paloma was good. read more

This was a REALLY TOUGH call on how to rate it. Trying to give some leeway for it being gay pride Sunday and the place serving brunch all day. BUT, here's the thing about the thing ... The biggest issue for us was that it took an hour for us to get our food, when the kitchen couldn't have been too backed up since most tables were already served. And when the food did come, my husband's Eggs Benedict was very, very cold and the eggs over cooked. And his French Toast (yes, he ordered to meals) was burned and two pieces were hardened and hard to eat because they were tough. Yes, everyone was festive. But, my husband is a server at one of the busiest brunch restaurants in the city. So, that really shouldn't have happened, PRIDE or not. The wait would have been easily overlooked for the day if his food hadn't come out so cold, overcooked and half or more inedible. And I don't know if our waiter was drinking as part of the fun, but he was certainly more involved with the entertainment leaving us forgotten ... and leaving our food to be almost inedible. At least his. I had the burger, which was oddly cooked almost the way I like and still warm. And my husband really didn't want to wait another hour because we'd already been there awhile. That said, it was a really fun environment. The drag queens were awesome, funny, entertaining and a crowd pleaser. We hadn't been here before and happened to pass by on our way to a different restaurant and stopped in. Unfortunately, we eat out a lot and food is important when we do. So we're not likely to come back. However, I'm guessing (or hoping) for a normal Sunday drag brunch, food comes out hot and with less than an hour wait. read more

A few weeks ago, my family and I visited NYC for the first time and on our last night before returning home, we wanted to have a wonderful dinner to remember. We certainly did at La Pulperia 44 Hell's Kitchen! The restaurant is very charming and the ambiance is relaxed. Our dinner reservation was for 5 pm and we were seated immediately upon arrival. Our waiter was Francisco and he was such a lovely person! He was kind, attentive, and took great care of us. He took the time to explain the menu, made sure our waters were always filled, and asked how we were doing. The food was delicious! We started with the guacamole and chips, the beef empanadas, and the crispy calamari. These starters were devoured and my sons who can be picky, loved them. For our meal, I had the Skirt Steak 10oz. and for my husband and sons, they all shared the Argentinian Parrillada for Two (I probably didn't need to order my entree because there was plenty of food)! We also ordered a side of coconut rice which was absolutely scrumptious! We all enjoyed our meal because the food was seasoned well, very tasty, and cooked perfectly. Made a reservation for my girlfriend's birthday for 2 hours before we went to see a broadway show. We got there 6:02pm. At 6:32pm we left since nobody came to take our orders beyond water. I asked for a soda I never got. She asked for sparkling water in a glass and was handed a can of tonic water and a cup. When we were leaving, 3 people thanked us for coming and none asked why we were leaving. We were sitting right in front of the bartender who was talking to two people in the same shirt the guy at the door was wearing, so I assume they worked there too. There was 3 other tables sat, so it's not like you were too busy to attended to our table. Honestly, it was the worst service possible. Went here for the first time celebrating a birthday at their Sunday drag brunch. We ordered a la carte drinks instead of bottomless and also had to order food based on a pre fixe menu. They bring guacamole and chips to the table along with 3 different types of empanada starters ( corn&cheese, beef, and crab) for the entree I ordered the steak and eggs(came with fries). Shout out to this fantastic 'pan-Latin' restaurant with an outstanding menu and great service from Carlos. We came with a party of five and ordered the parrillada for 2, the pulpit (octopus) paella for 2 and 2 appetizers (bacalao - cod - fritters and jaiba-blue crab - empanadas). The parrillada came with SO MUCH FOOD - 3 types of steak (the NY strip was just incredible - perfectly cooked super-high quality beef), 2 types of sausage and a generous portion of chicken, along with a good salad, super potatoes, and of course, some excellent chimichurri sauce. All of the other food was delicious as well. And to finish off the churros and the chocolate cake were perfect. I loved the moqueca mixta (especially the shrimp and the green coconut rice, though it also had a way too salty fish) and the Argentinian Parrillada, which came with a delightful salad and potatoes. Such a jewel and hidden gem in the Theater District. First off, the decor and design is cool earthy and transports you to a Mediterranean cliff side villa, but the vibe inside is lively and communal. Now the food is a fascinating fusion of traditional Greek but inspired by Latin elements that complement rather than overwhelm. The staff couldn't have been more gracious and knowledgeable making you feel welcome and appreciated. I'm not big on Lobster but this ended up being one of my favorite dishes! The steak was cooked perfectly and very tender.
