We kept seeing Pupusa Loka all over TikTok, so we finally decided to check it out and see what the hype was about. Overall, the food was good. The pupusas were flavorful, fresh, and definitely worth trying. The service was friendly, but I do think the prices were a little higher than expected for the location and the portion sizes. I don't mind paying more for great food, but I expected a little more for what we received. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'm glad we gave it a try. Never answer the phone to get my order and I had a question about a job offer that they had, and was so disappointed on how the lady answered she was very rude and talking to me like she owned the business when I had talk to the owner like 10 minutes prior to me calling to the restaurant. I go once in a while to get my pupusa fix. The cheese and loroco pupusa is $3. It's pretty big and delicious. It comes with curtido (cabbage) and sauce. I also ordered boiled cassava (yuca). Because I ordered it with no pork, they served me extra yuca. The waitress was nice in general. I asked her for extra curtido and she said "claro que sí." I had a problem when my bill came. It totaled $19. Something didn't add up. I asked her about it. She said it's the taxes. I asked for a detailed print out. The receipt had an 18 percent added charge. She didn't mention it. It's sneaky. I had no idea and had left a tip. She never mentioned my bill was $19 because it included a tip. I was upset. She had continued on to wait on another table and I wanted to ask her about it. So I went to the bar to ask another waitress about the extra charge. She told me 'that charge goes to the boss." I tried this place for the first time last Friday. It definitely did not disappoint. My husband picked up pupusas for lunch and they were amazing!! They were full of flavor and you can tell that they were made fresh. I would love to visit the restaurant to see how their service and their vibe is. Yelp texted me a notification "Restaurant needs you more than ever". It points to La Pupusa Loka. My first impression was like, "eh, how do you know I love pupusa?" I didn't think anything of it. Then, I drove by after my grocery shopping at Kroger and saw this location. Wait, I remember wrote a review at this location. It was a Verona Flying Pizza Italian restaurant years ago. I finally came here by during lunchtime to check out the interior and its menu. I love the El Salvadoran decors and spacious dining room. There's a bar and intimate area with 2 giant screen televisions. I noticed a sign says LA PUPUSA LOKA BAR. Wikipedia says pupusa made famous in Houston, outside of El Salvador. I feel lucky that I get to enjoy my favorite latin american food in my favorite city. I tried 3 items that I'm familiar with: horchata, pupusa gueso con loroco and sopa de mondongo. For those of you don't me, I'm Hispanic. Waitresses were nice and friendly. They spoke good English. She emphasized horchata is El Salvadoran style. It was little too sweet for my taste. Loroco is a special flower from central america. I love the flavor as an important element in pupusa. I like its texture with gooey cheese inside of a corn patty. Cortidos as I called it sauerkraut of pupusa. It was little salty for me but tastes fresh and plenty. Mondongo is like menudo, but better. This soup is less gelatinous and less fat. It has yucca root, potatoes, carrot, corn, tendons, tripes and bone. The broth was well balanced. The dish came with rice and tortilla. I was so stuffed. I would have to try those on a different day. Overall, restaurant was clean and bright. There were families with kids dining here. I would recommend everyone to stop by to try food here. read more

The food was good. The service was not. If you go for the food, be sure to have A LOT of time available! We went for lunch, needing to get back to work, and did not have time to wait. We ended up taking our food to go, as it was time to get back to work as the waitress was finally bringing our food! Other issues: 1. My husband is diabetic so he always orders unsweetened ice tea. He was brought sweetened tea. When we finally (it took 20 minutes) had the waitress' attention again, I asked her about the sugar in the tea. I explained in Spanish that he is diabetic and needs sugar-free. She said there is only a little sugar in the tea. (Oh, that's okay, then. You're only a little poisoning my husband!) 2. My husband ordered 2 enchiladas and 1 pupusa. I ordered 2 pupusas. When the food finally arrived, he got 2 enchiladas on his plate and I received 3 pupusas on my plate. This really ticked him off! Why put his food on my plate? Then, when we had to take it to go and they moved it to to-go containers, his food was in my container. He dropped me off at my office and then went to his office, and I had his pupusa. Conclusion: The food tasted very good when we finally were able to eat it. I go pick up my food, the place is empty. There was only one couple eating in there. First time trying this place despite coworkers saying they had horrible service and the food took too long. The pupusas were huge which I thought was great but they were almost raw. You couldn't quite cut it because it would slip and slide everywhere. They tasted more like I ate raw tasteless dough. These are so incredible I'm not a Pupusa fan but dang I found the best in Houston literally close to my neighborhood. I ordered the chicharrón Pupusa. The chicharrón was súper minced and flavorful and not greasy at all! The masa was light and fluffy! My girlfriend ordered the cheese and frijol and it's was super good. Our other girlfriend got the shrimp one and was amazing! We also ordered plátanos con crema and frijoles they were fried perfectly and the crema was really good the black beans were very tasty and again not greasy! Completely recommend this new place! Not bad but not good. Ordered on Ubereats and my order was totally wrong and I was overcharged. I guess Ubereats is opting not to refund the total cost anymore. I ordered 6 pupusas which I upgraded to include meat either chicken and beef. I received, only two with meat the rest were cheese and one was bean only. I originally ordered all cheese and I upgraded and then charged for meat which I did not get. I ripped them all in half to make sure. Disappointing only for lack of meat.
