    Hole on the ceiling

The hotel is extremely run down: peeling paint from the walls, rust on the door frames and sprinkler heads in the pool area. The gym was closed "sorry for the inconvenience." In the room: There is rust around the bathtub drain, nasty looking toilet, dirty carpets, trash under the pull out couch and crumbs when we opened it. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, the pillows were hard and some of them were dirty. The chair in the room looked like it belonged in the dumpster. The faux leather was crumbling apart. The breakfast food was tasteless and overcooked. The juice was actually water with dye and a little bit of sugar. The cream cheese tasted horrible and the bagels felt like bubblegum. The photos of the place are definitely NOT what you get. This hotel may have been beautiful once but it is not so today. I would have asked for a refund if I could.

I'll start off by saying that the people who work here (like almost all the people we interacted with in Ruidoso) were incredibly nice and helpful. Everyone, from the front desk staff to the house keeping staff, were exceptionally cheery and always had something nice to say even though it was snowy and icy outside and during the holiday rush. The service they provide is the absolute best part of the stay here. The hotel itself is aging and showing its wear. It's a heavily used hotel and most of the patrons staying here seem to be headed to Ski Apache. There are a few nit picky things here and there, but for the price, it's a great value. The breakfast is not great, but at least it's something. You can carb load on fresh waffles and bagels or have some of the saltiest eggs I've ever eaten. They also have fresh fruit, yogurt, and cereal available too which is great. The coffee though.... It has to be one of the worst I've ever had. The pump creamer left clumps floating at the top of the cup and it was super weak. I finally broke down and bought some Starbucks instant coffee and just used their hot water. But again, it's a free breakfast so I'm thankful for that. The pet policy is fantastic. We brought along our golden retriever and their is no deposit or fee to bring them. All that is required is a signed waiver that you are responsible for any damage they make to the room, which is of course understandable. Overall, this is a great value for a decent hotel in Ruidoso and I would recommend it to anyone looking to spend a few days on the slopes or perusing their downtown area.

If you're looking for great customer service, then stay here. The breakfast was ok, the rooms are decent, but seriously, top notch friendly local customer service. I live in Santa Fe & it's rare to revive this quality of service. Great job

    Tub peeling.

We have a diamond membership with LaQuinta. We stay at LaQuintas a lot. This location was kind of a disappointment. Its old and really needs a serious update for one. It wasnt very clean either. Not vacuumed and a dirty washcloth left hanging over the shower head. Bathtub needs some work. Looks like the enamel is peeling off. Dont think we will stay here again.sheets clean though and bed comfortable.

I was disappointed in this hotel. Many amenities were not available that are expected to be at such a place. For example, the second floor ice Machine was broken. I mentioned it at least 3 times on different days and it still was not fixed. Shampoo was not available in the room, only conditioner. Pets were allow and one large dog was kept in one of the rooms that would rush and bark at the door every time someone would walk down the hall. The barking was non-stop. I feel as if people with pets should be housed in another part of the hotel--together. Vacations should be relaxing for people who don't want the noise of pets. The breakfast was meager and not what is usual for a hotel. I would not stay at this hotel again. I could not recommend it to others.

Clean, efficient, and good breakfast. Central to Ruidsoso and shopping and restaurants. I'd rate it as a 3+ and would stay here again.

4 Stars - A High-Desert Blackjack Fever Dream…read more There are casinos, and then there are casinos that feel like a mildly hallucinogenic roadside poem written at 7,500 feet above sea level. This is the latter. The blackjack tables here are loose in that beautiful way that makes a gambler feel briefly chosen by the gods. Chips slide, cards slap the felt, and the dealers and pit bosses carry a refreshing lack of casino stiffness. Nobody's breathing down your neck like a tax auditor of sin. The vibe is relaxed, almost conspiratorial--like the whole room knows we're all here for the same ridiculous dance with probability. Two dealers deserve special mention. Makaila runs a table like a jazz drummer--smooth, quick, unflustered. June, meanwhile, is a delightful menace. She enjoys tricking players into thinking she's pulled a blackjack. She'll pause, squint, grin, and for a brief moment the table collectively experiences a small existential crisis before she reveals the truth. It's performance art disguised as card dealing. The hotel itself sits out in Mescalero, right beside Ruidoso, overlooking the calm waters of Mescalero Lake--a high-desert lake that looks especially poetic when the mountain air hits your lungs like cold champagne. At 7,500 feet elevation, the place has that crisp alpine quiet that makes you feel like you've wandered into some strange mountain monastery... except the monks are holding blackjack chips. Inside, the casino is modern, comfortable, and easy to navigate. Outside? The parking lot is a bit ugly--like a sun-baked asphalt lizard. But it's shaded, which in the high desert counts as a civic virtue. The crowd is mostly reasonable. Sure, every casino has a few characters who appear to have been assembled from spare parts and bad decisions--but overall the patrons were friendly. I even noticed quite a few young women comfortably playing at the tables, which usually means the atmosphere hasn't drifted too far into creep territory. The rooms are spacious and many have great views of the lake, which adds a peaceful counterpoint to the card-table chaos downstairs. And if you're the adventurous type, there's a disc golf course nearby plus plenty of walking trails along the lake. It's a nice way to clear your head after battling the dealer and the laws of mathematics. One practical note: Hydrate like a camel preparing for a desert opera. The air here is dry enough to turn a raisin back into a grape. Would I come back? Absolutely. Between the mountain air, the laid-back blackjack, and the occasional theatrical dealer mind-game, it's a wonderfully strange little high-desert gambling outpost. Four stars. Bring water. Bring luck. And keep an eye on June's face when she peeks at that second card.

Ruidoso Lodge Cabins, oh how I would love to go back!…read more While we were there, we stayed in one of the Hidden Canyon cabins, which was so wonderfully remote. Tucked away between the foothills of the mountains, we got to experience a peaceful, quiet long weekend. There are only two other cabins on the road that ours was on, so the quietude really was palpable. In the mornings (we got up before our neighbors, apparently) it felt like we were the only two people in the whole world. Even though it was chilly, we would go out on the deck to enjoy our morning coffee (for him) and tea (for me) while listening to the creak of the trees, the chirp of birds, a distant woodpecker hunting for breakfast... it was just so lovely. Actually, the in-your-face nature reached a whole other level when we had a moment interacting with the local deer population. We were on our way to the car to head towards town, when we suddenly realized that there was a herd of deer wandering towards us. Not wanting to scare them with the car door sounds, we just stopped and stood completely still. We had expected them to just continue on their way, but they actually decided to stop and check us out. A few of them actually came right up to us and (I swear, I couldn't make this up!) licked our hands! (For the "pics or it didn't happen" people out there, please do see the pictures I've uploaded. Told you-- I couldn't make this up!) Regarding the cabin itself-- the amenities were everything we could have hoped for. The kitchen was immaculately cleaned and ready for us to make a meal in, the bathroom was lovely with its skylight and river stone shower, and the bed... well, it might have been just about the most comfortable bed the husband and I had ever slept in. Not kidding! Honestly, I can't do this place any justice by writing about it. You'll just have to go take a look at the pictures, or better yet, go stay for a weekend yourself! It really is an amazing experience.
