A very clean place and very easy to find, service was 15/10. They were very kind to my son and helped him pick out a flavor. When it came time to pay I only had card and no cash and there card machine was down that day. He literally told me it was fine and to just take the ice cream for free, (3 ice creams and a agua Fresca). Unbelievably creamy, delicious and refreshing on a 103 degree summer day. By far the best paletas I've had (including several in Mexico). Service was prompt, courteous and attentive. I can't believe I've never done a review. I've been coming here for the past five years since I've lived in the neighborhood. This is a small shop with a big back area where they make ice cream magic. They have different delicious ice cream treats and at least one agua fresca at all times ranging from $2 - $5 or so but I usually stick with the paletas. They have at least theee different strawberry options and every other fruit - and some veg like avocado- don't knock it til you try it. The paletas are separated by water-based and dairy-based. Both are good. My favorite water-based: watermelon, lime, jamaica (hibiscus) and fave dairy-based: both strawberry - sooo good. Currently, paletas are $2 each with no discount that I could see. I'm pretty sure two summers ago, the dairy based were like 25 cents or 50 cents more (adds up when you buy 10 like me haha). I love the ice cream at this place. Over the past year or two, I've tried all the "unusual" flavors of ice cream there ("unusual" meaning, I'd never seen these flavors at SaveMart), like mamay and guanabana. Everything is delicious, but my absolute favorite there is the coconut ice cream. It is extremely creamy--it has that fresh, homemade flavor of really good ice cream. It is also packed with coconut. It's amazing. The other two reviewers both mentioned the service. One said the service was slow, and the other said the teenagers serving at the counter were standoffish. The service can be a bit slow, because the ice cream is great and sometimes a lot of people walk in at once. Personally, I don't find slightly slow service at a busy place to be a problem, when it's due to popularity (and not, for instance, the servers being inattentive). Amazing place for paletas near Tower District (perfect for a thrift shop break). The shop is vibrant and clean. There is seating and a gorgeous mural. We enjoyed the cookies & cream, strawberry, and corn cream paletas. All were fantastic! The strawberry and corn had frozen chunks of the fruit/vegetable so just make sure you are okay with that! While camping in Sequoia National Park, we caught wind of a mythical ice cream place where people all over the world congregated. Several ladies at our campsite shared with us a glowing article that they had read about this place--the way La Reina was described it was as if one spoonful of this magical ice cream elixer could possibly make a blind man see. Soon this ice cream place became the subject of many fireside conversations. We contemplated the magnificence of all the fabulous flavors that would cool us down on a hot, muggy, summer night, and all vowed to stop by on our way back home. I love my ice cream, so stopping here despite the disadvantage of having nothing more than a name and a cell phone to locate the Paleteria, seemed to be a minor obstacle in finding ice cream bliss. I'm not familiar with the area, and given that, it took us about an hour detour to find. Once there, we entered a small ice cream shop with an overwhelming amount of choices. I definitely felt like an outsider when I had to ask about the flavors I didn't immediately recognize--flavors like Mamay, Zarzamora, Nuez and Guanabana. We ordered the Santa Maria (?) -- a waffle cone that held 3 scoops of ice cream (mango, guava, and mamey were our choices), and also ordered a dragonfruit flavored fruit popscicle. It was all very good. The teenage staff was a bit standoffish and seemed put out by all my questions (altho they did allow me to try many of the flavors, probably as a means of shutting me up), and the eating area could have been a bit cleaner (all the tables had dried food/juice/ice cream on it that I ended up wiping off before sitting down). But we came here for the ice cream, not the service or clean tables. On ice cream alone, it was good, but far from the mind-blowing ticket to ice cream shangri-la I was anticipating. Good variety, solid ice cream, and I love that its a truly authentic Paleteria y Neveria. But I probably wouldn't go out of my way again to return based on ice cream alone. read more

A huge variety of paletas (ice cream popsicles) with plenty of all-fruit, non-dairy choices like kiwi, guava, tamarind, and cucumber. The energetic owner was clearly doing everything he could to manage the hoardes of people standing in line, but to no avail. They could have used at least three more people there today just to make it run semi-decently. Trust me, with the amount of traffic they get, they would still make a killing. I hear they are planning a considerably larger location in north Fresno. Fine, but just make sure that regardless of whatever happens next, crowd control is worked out first. On to the delights...My family enjoyed everything they got (cream and water based paleterias, etc.), but the highlight was an incomprehensibly fresh and delicious drinkable strawberry sno- cone thing--which is basically a combination of shave ice, fresh strawberries, salt, lemon juice, chili peppers, and two kinds of sweet syrup. The flavors were just screaming with intensity without being spicy hot and the seemingly odd assortment of ingredients only brought out the flavor of the strawberries even more. My wife (a shave ice connoisseur if there ever was one--she holds that the guy outside the grocery store in Kapaa, Kauai is the world's best and it turns out that Lonely Planet agrees with her) claimed that this just moved to the top of her list. I've had the water-based one, but I think there's a cream-based mango, too. It has good-sized chunks of mango and is sweet. 2) Avocado. This is cream-based, light green, and delicious. I know it sounds weird, but I think of it more as a cool snack for a hot afternoon than dessert. It is lightly sweetened, though. Also has big pieces of avocado. 3) Chile Mango. Also water-based, not especially sweet, and the spice was definitely getting to be a bit much for me by the end. But it was still delicious, and I never considered not finishing. My search lead me to La Reina de Michoacan a little ice cream and palleta shop who's name I could barely pronounce. The ice cream was so good I dragged my boyfriend here once a week for two months. The strawberries and cream ice cream was absolutely amazing, it tasted like I was eating perfectly ripe strawberries and freshly whipped cream. The Coconut ice was really good also. I could tell that the guava ice cream was fresh it had such a good flavor to it, but the seeds were a pain in the teeth. The only reason that I did not give them a five star was that they did not have many chocolate infused ice cream choices. I'm a chocoholic so as much as I like fresh flavors and tasty fruits, I need me some chocolate. As for the Palletas they were awesome. The variety of flavors is almost overwhelming. Again the strawberries and cream was my favorite with the coconut being a close second. All of the flavors that we tried were good, such as: corn, avocado, cookies and cream, and mango. LOVE the ice cream here. La Reina is literally in the middle of no where but their ice cream is worth the drive. It is actually a five minute drive from the zoo. Love their guava, yogurt with fruit, pineapple, and coconut ice creams. Oh, and their strawberries and cream is soooooo good. Most flavors also come as popsicles. I've been known to bring a cooler with us to Fresno so we can bring home 20 popscicles to the SF Bay Area. Why do I do this? Because the quality of the fruit they put in their ice cream is unparalleled. Sure, the Bay Area has great ice cream, but not guava. And for the unadventurous kids, they have bright blue bubble gum ice cream full of gumballs -what kid doesn't love that? One last thing, when it is too hot to eat ice cream (yes, there is such a thing), they have shaved ice covered in a fruit syrup (pineapple is my favorite).
