I recently visited La Rumba in DeFuniak Springs and had mixed feelings about the experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful. I really enjoyed the spacious, culturally vibrant atmosphere. The floral décor and star-shaped light fixtures create a unique and inviting environment. I also spent some time near the bar to check out the vibe, and the music fit the overall theme very well. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the atmosphere. My waitress lacked enthusiasm and engagement throughout the visit. When I noticed that the street tacos were priced at $4.99 each, I commented that the price seemed high compared to other restaurants that offer smaller street-style tacos for less. She responded by citing "inflation," and when I pointed out that other places still charge less, her response was, "That's how the prices are in Florida." The interaction came across as dismissive and somewhat rude. I ordered a taco salad with ground beef, which was average at best. Shortly after placing my order, I noticed the La Rumba Signature Salad on the menu and asked if I could switch to that instead. I was told the order couldn't be changed because it would require a management void and they don't like doing those. Considering the request was made almost immediately after ordering, I found that response unprofessional and disappointing. Additionally, I had to flag down staff multiple times just to receive my check. On a positive note, one of the staff members cleaning the bar area was exceptionally kind and took time to engage in friendly conversation. That interaction was genuine, welcoming, and ended up being one of the best parts of the visit. Overall, while the atmosphere and décor are impressive, the service lacked significantly. For a brand-new establishment location, I expected a friendlier and more customer-focused experience. With additional waitstaff training and better customer service standards, this restaurant may have the potential to become a highlight in the area. read more

I popped into LaRumba on St Patrick's Day and had a really great time. It started as soon as I entered the front door and I was enthusiastically greeted by the hostess who also complimented me- telling me how much she "loved my look". Totally made my day! I was dining with me/myself/and I so I took a seat at the bar and again was enthusiastically greeted by the bartender. The margaritas were excellent - and 2 for 1 - BONUS!! I ordered the chicken fajita chimichanga that came with refried beans and rice. It was all fresh and delicious AND very generous portions. Enough for dinner that night AND lunch the next day. Really good! We were trekking I -10 and looking for a non fast food lunch and despite some Yelp reviews we decided on LaRumba. From the outside in a motel parking lot our 16yo was skeptical, but we headed in! We were greeted by a warm, friendly staff and our drink orders were filled stat! My cranky 16yo and I both had the Asada Mexican tacos. Simple, but they were delicious. My wife had the veggie quesadilla and liked it. She said, "I only needed half of this". Cranky, picky eater 12yo thought his beef quesadilla wasn't cheesy enough...but he loved his French fries! We had another 5 hours in the car so we can't comments on the Margs, but they looked healthy! Give this place a shot! read more

This was our first time here since they moved to the new location. We loved the decor but the food and service wasn't that great. We had to wait to be seated and evidently no one told our waitress we were there. Finally, another waitress came by and got our drink order. Our waitress was friendly but not very knowledgeable about the menu or how to give back our change. We asked if she could bring us some change so we could leave the tip. Instead of bringing back ones she only brought two fives back. We asked again if she could change it and she said she didn't have any ones and never offered to go get any. read more

At lunch, we waited 25 minutes for water, 45 for food that was really not good, and got forks after our food got there, after asking for them several times. Didn't know we could find good, authentic mexican food in Defuniak springs! I ordered the Sampler Platter off the appetizer section. It included flautas, quesadillas, chicken fingers, stuffed jalepeno poppers, and cheese sticks. This was nice cause it gave a variety of things and it cost under $10. The quesadillas were especially bomb but the chicken fingers were oddly shaped and kind of chewy. The only weird thing was that they put a huge thing of marinara sauce in the middle of the plate when you could only dip the cheese sticks in that and not the rest of the items. Hello, we are a or use to be a regular at LA rumbas in DeFuniak however it is changed a lot. I think the manager is too busy being friends with the workers and flirty with customers that this place is awful!!! The spanish waiters are very rude while you dine in but so so rude when you call to place a order. They never give you all of your order when you pick up your food. However there is a waiter named Amber who is very wonderful.She is knowledgable of menue and just great all around! This place is going downhill bad!! However you can go to LaRumbas in Crestview and it is 100% different than the experience in Defuniak! read more

We have been here a few times , each time it has gotten worse. Last night topped it off. We were seated , chips and salsa came No server. We just about ate all the chips. After 20 minutes my husband went up front where the servers were standing chit chatting and asked if they sat us where there was no server. They finally fill him back to the table and took drink order. Took food order. Took forever again. Finished our drinks. Still no food or server. Another server finally brought our food and we asked for another drink she brought it. One meal was supposed to have cheese dip on it. La Rumba; one of the very few options to us in DeFuniak Springs also just known as the Mexican choice. La Rumba has plenty of seating including a huge porch, a bar area and a back dining room. There was around 25 of us, we were served in a timely manner and were able to all pay separately. There was no lack of salsa; the cheese and spinach dip serving was real spinach; and the two-fer steak fajitas, served sizzling with plenty of peppers and onions, were very tasty. We weren't allowed to drink because of scuba diving, but the front bar looked pretty fun with karaoke though I doubt I will be returning to DeFuniak unless I'm diving. Curses! read more

Ordered chicken enchiladas, what I got was a over load of cheese and very little chicken. The oriental waitress didn't check on us so my tea was empty for a long time. Then she left and didn't even bother to introduce the new waitress. Very very poor service. When I mentioned the crud load of cheese in my chicken enchiladas, the second waitress was like well. New to town we went several months ago. As,a family we love Mexican. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her chimichangas, and my son is just too easy with chips, and cheese. I ordered beef fajitas. .... my go to when trying a new place. You can't screw up fajitas, Right ? Well. ....... these had a sweet taste that I just couldn't identify. I ate about half, and my stomach started cramping. I didn't even get out of the restaurant before having to go to the bathroom. Fajitas NEVER do that to me. I left the other half sitting there, and we haven't been back since. There are much better places in the area, and I just won't risk that again. Service was great! Two young ladies running front of house, courteous & quick! Very friendly and happy! Food was pretty good, could use a little more seasoning (salt was perfect, I don't like a lot of salt!) but everything was well cooked, not over cooked. We used to go there a lot, not really very clean, but we were able to look past that because the food was pretty good. Then four of us all got food poisoning at the same time. No more. Now I am told that they were closed down a couple of years ago for health code violations. Too bad because fajitas were really good. I do not know if the same people still run it now, but it Doesn't matter to me. I now have other choices, and I cannot drive past there without remembering the vomiting and diarrhea. read more

This place was great back in the day but has really gone down hill. The food came out after 45 minutes and was cold. The wait staff seems to have no certain section, hard to flag down your waitress. I should of turned around and went straight to taco bell. Literally everything about this experience was horrible. Waitress was nice but didn't know anything about the menu. Our cheese sticks came out with one cheese stick that was clearly from a totally different company. The marinara was ice cold. Our chips looked like they were from the bottom of the bag, very few whole chips just tiny random pieces. They messed up our order and then told us well you ordered it. And the food was so gross. Another waitress stood behind our table completely dogging a big top she had earlier, saying they didn't even tip her. I don't have to guess why. The worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. I ordered a steak and chicken fajita and it was greasy. They charged me for shrimp when I specifically asked for no shrimp. I addressed the matter at the restaurant and nothing was done about it. Ordered a small cheese dip and it was extremely cold. Also, they hand you the salsa without mentioning they charge for it.
