Grouper platter, cheese grits, green beans and hush puppies.

The service was great, the food was delicious and the atmosphere is family oriented and has such a hometown feel to it.

Nicks is along a remote section of the highway and by the amount of cars in the lot we figured it had to be decent. Mostly locals, it seemed. There was a table full of officers who were finishing up their meal when we arrived. There were lots of families, kids of all ages. The walls are lined with some really great pics and memories (maybe of the family?) and also some pretty impressive w trophies from hunting and fishing trips. There's lots to see. I didn't get a pic but my husband had the fish sandwich. It was huge. Three large pieces of fish. Would be enough to share. I ordered a half pound steamed shrimp. It was very tasty. We also ordered a fried shrimp platter that my son and daughter shared along with a grilled cheese for my other kid. The side of hush puppies was more than i realized.... They were really good too. The food was all seasoned well. Only one complaint.... Service was pretty rough. We got there around 1:45.... Waitstaff was frazzled at the hind end of a lunch rush and tho we were seated fairly quickly, we sat quite a while waiting for someone to come address us. Maybe they were just having a bad day? If we were locals, we'd definitely be back. The food was great and the casual mood was just our style. I'd go back with low expectations for a warm welcome tho....

My $25.00 fried fish meal. Gloppy grits, 4 shrimp, and 2 fish nuggets. I was robbed.

I drove by this scenic place a hundred times and always told myself I had to eat there. We finally did, and it is just a big regret from start to finish. We ordered 2 seafood dinners and a fried chicken breast dinner. The wife got grilled shrimp and fish, and I got the fried version. First, the chicken...the portion was good, but the chicken was overcooked and dry. My fried fish and shrimp were fine, but for $25.00, it was an absolute ripoff. The fish weren't even whole fillets but 3 inch sections of a larger fillet. Basically, they were 2 fish nuggets. Do the math on this and you quickly realize that you have been had. The wife's grilled was the same meager portions, but to top it off, the skewered shrimp were hammered and tough. Someone forgot about them on the grill or they sat and sat. The cheese grits were anything but creamy. They were actually gloppy and unappealing. The cooks have to had known the grits were obviously gloppy, yet they never took the effort/initiative to heat them up, add some milk, and get them where they needed to be. The place wasn't busy, so they couldn't say they got slammed and lost the quality. Walked out and paid $95.00 for 3 people - no appetizer, no beers, just 3 meals and 3 sodas. Sad.

Love this place. We went there for the crabs as usual and everything was great. One of our "go to" places when we are in Destin.

Food was awful! The quality of the food is not good for the price . The seafood platter was too expensive.

The service was very friendly. The food was good/decent. My wife enjoyed the tile fish and I had the blackened grouper and cheese grits.

Great local place with history and heart. Best fried shrimp on the Gulf Coast! Family owned and operated still, which is rare these days.

We are so happy we did! Delicious food and great service! They definitely know how to make "dunk-able" over medium eggs, epic omelettes and hearty breakfast potatoes with toasted home style bread. We had gone for breakfast several times and noted their daily lunch specials which sounded really good so the next time we were in Freeport later in the day we decided to go BJ's for lunch. Best chicken fried steak ever! Next time we stopped for lunch my husband got the buffalo 10 chicken wing special and I had an awesome (huge) Chef salad. His wings had a nice heat build up and he was sweating at the end which is his perfect wing experience. Service is awesome with obvious teamwork. "ORDER-UP" means somebody get it to the table, and they do it while it's hot. The atmosphere is homestyle comfort just like the cooking and the prices are reasonable. Last but not least, is the "pay it forward" they do. You can buy a ticket for a meal and the ticket hangs outside to be redeemed by someone in need. This my friends, is small town America at its best, taking care of each other. Whether you're a local or just hungry and passing through, you can't go wrong with Bubba Jacks good old homestyle southern cooking!

I rarely leave reviews--good or bad--but I felt this experience was worth sharing…read more We've tried Bubba Jack's twice because it's always busy, so we assumed the food must be excellent. The first time, there was about a 30-minute wait. When I told the waitress we had a party of four, she responded in a very irritated tone, saying it would be 30 minutes. That was completely fine with us. I worked as a server for years, so I know everyone has stressful days. Our kids were hungry, so we decided to come back another time and didn't think much of it. I always like to give a restaurant more than one chance before forming an opinion. The second visit is what changed my mind. We arrived at 10:09 a.m. and waited for a table. We were seated at 10:29, planning to order breakfast for our kids. Our server didn't come to the table until about 10:34 and then told us breakfast had stopped being served at 10:30. I understand restaurants have cutoff times, but we were seated before 10:30 and had no opportunity to place our order before then. Rather than offering any flexibility or apologizing, she spoke to us in a condescending way, saying that if we wanted breakfast, we needed to be there before 10:30. It wasn't the breakfast cutoff that bothered us--it was the way we were treated. Customer service makes a big difference, and we left feeling like we were an inconvenience instead of paying customers. The restaurant is obviously popular, so the food may be great. I can only speak to our experience, and unfortunately, based on the way we were treated during both visits, we won't be returning.
