Delightful. A Friday…read morenight dinner in South Padre Island led me to LongBoard Bar & Grill, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I walked in around 7:00pm and was seated right away. I started with the mozzarella sticks. They were exactly what you'd expect--nothing particularly memorable, but they satisfied the craving. For my entrée, I ordered the deep-fried seafood basket with all three options: shrimp, oysters, and fish. Everything was perfectly seasoned and fried to a crisp without being overly greasy. It came with cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and a small serving of coleslaw that balanced the heaviness of the fried foods nicely. The jumbo shrimp were sweet, plump, and succulent, while the oysters and fish were also delicious--exactly what my soul ordered. What truly elevated the evening was the atmosphere. Live music and a spectacular fireworks show over the water. The singer's rendition of the national anthem was absolutely beautiful and gave me goosebumps. Between the food, gorgeous ocean views, live entertainment, and fireworks, this was a memorable dinner and a great way to spend a Friday night on South Padre Island.

Our food was not great whatsoever, it taste like everything was frozen previously and thawed incorrectly. The sampler came out cold, the fried basket was basket flavoring, the tacos were eatable, and the mahi mahi fish was okay. Honestly DO NOT come here for food, However Come HERE for dancing/environment.

As soon as you get seated they bring a paper to let you choose what oysters you want , with a description of where they come from. Our server was kind enough to explain to us the taste of each oyster & told us to go check the oyster bar where the chefs will crack it open so you know it's nice & fresh! Hubs got 1 Momma Mia oyster that was served with lemon & other types of sauces to dip it in. You can also order as many as you want since they are sold by the piece. I had a chicken sandwich that was crispy & just delicious! fyi the chicken sandwich is huge; you probably will have leftovers for later:) Our experience was great & we will definitely come back to try other dishes from Captain's Cove Oyster Bar!

We made a reservation for two and specifically requested the best available table for the sunset. When we arrived, our table wasn't ready, and we were asked to choose between two less desirable tables inside. Our reservation was at 7:45 p.m. It took over 15 minutes just to receive our first drinks and another 15 minutes before our order was taken. We ordered both appetizers and entrées together because service was already moving so slowly. While we waited, we watched a party of five, a party of three, and another party of two seated around us. All three tables received their food before we did, despite arriving after us. We waited approximately an hour for our food. The presentation was also disappointing. I ordered the espresso martini, but unlike the drinks featured on their Facebook page and in customer photos, mine wasn't garnished with the toasted marshmallow that appears to be part of their signature presentation. The mussels and the seafood enchiladas suizas also looked nothing like the beautifully plated dishes shown in their advertising. Several of the mussel shells were empty, making the appetizer feel incomplete. When our food finally arrived, it felt rushed. The fish tacos and seafood enchiladas suizas were underwhelming and did not justify the long wait. Our server was polite and apologized several times, explaining that the delays were coming from the kitchen. Unfortunately, the manager handled the situation very differently. Instead of acknowledging our concerns, he argued with us and made excuses for the delays. When we asked for a refund because of the overall experience, our plates were immediately cleared from the table, and the manager never returned to speak with us again. We chose Captain's Oyster Cove because of its reputation and wanted to enjoy a special sunset dinner, but the combination of poor service, inconsistent food presentation, long kitchen delays, and dismissive management made this one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had on South Padre Island. Their Cobbfather salad with grilled chicken is an awesome selection if you are trying to eat healthy. The only thing I miss is soup. It would be great to have maybe a soup of the day option 2-3 times a week. For dessert they offer ice cream or cakes, which I believe look like they're from Sam's club, but they are still pretty good. If visiting the beach and trying to find someplace good to eat that is reasonably priced, I would highly recommend stopping here.

Browsed the menu & ended up just getting their "tossed salad". I asked what was on it which was; sliced tomato, shredded carrot, red onion & cucumber. Opted out of the cucumber & requested two blue cheese dressings. My husband ordered their cheeseburger dressed with pepper jack cheese. My salad arrived fairly quickly & it was on a flat plate with a weak portion for $7.75. The two dressings were in taco cups over flowing with a hefty amount of fresh blue cheese crumbles packed on top. Super disappointed with not only the presentation, the cost & never being asked if I wanted my salad prior or when my husband received his meal. I ended up pushing it to the side & was waiting for our waitress to return to not only ask if my husband would like another beer, but to also provide the option of not eating that ridiculous amount of rabbit food-getting a refund OR to bring out more lettuce & ask to please just bring out standard blue cheese dressing without the added amount of crumbled cheese. We don't see our server for sometime, so I went to the hostess asking if she were also the manager which she stated she wasn't & that they were at the bar.That's when our server came up behind me & asked if there was a problem. I explained the situation to her, then she tells me that this dressing is always served this way and that, that is what blue cheese dressing is! Blue cheese dressing does have blue cheese "chucks" within the original recipe. It's salad dressing, it shouldn't be this difficult! LOL After this fiasco, they brought more salad and a watered down milky dressing that had zero flavor and zero cheese along with sliced cucumber?! The consistency was like milk. It was running, bland, NO blended cheese in the base-it definitely wasn't blue cheese dressing! WT?! This ALL transpired while my husband was still waiting on his burger & fries . About another 15 minutes goes by, I finally had to just start in on the bland salad. My husband's beer still sat empty & was never told when his burger would be served the few times are server swung by regarding my order issues. 20 minutes later, she comes by again & he was asked if it was cheddar cheese & he said, "no it was pepper jack". A total of 30 minutes he waited for a very rare burger, cold fries & FINALLY another beer! Terrible service and food wasn't very good either.
