Patio dining

This was our first visit to La Scala, and it certainly won't be our last. Note that they have a small parking lot at the back of the restaurant, though there is usually sufficient on-street parking. Wednesday is "chicken night" at La Scala, featuring all you can eat chicken, salad, pasta, and fries for only $15.95. The chicken is a baked rotisserie style chicken with your choice of the sides mentioned above. A tempting value, but we couldn't resist the many other tasty dishes on the menu, and ordered: * Garlic Bread $6.95: Grilled Italian bread baked with house-made garlic butter. * Cousin Vinny's Chicken $24.95: Sautéed chicken & spinach in a roasted red pepper cream sauce served over cheese ravioli. * The Godmother $25.95: Chicken parmigiana layered with fresh herb ricotta & spinach, topped with eggplant, cheese & pink sauce. We were dining al fresco, they have a small patio on the side of their building, and it was a beautiful evening. We started with the Garlic Bread, which was nicely executed, crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside and served with roasted peppers. It arrived with 6 slices, we ate three, and could have eaten more. Fortunately, we left room for two excellent entrees. I tried both and had a difficult time determining which I liked better. I selected The Godmother which was delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly, a tender and juicy breast. Of course you had to get past the cheese, spinach, and eggplant on top, which were tastier than the delicious chicken below. The cheese was lightly browned, slightly chewy, and very tasty. A really great dish! That said, Cousin Vinny's Chicken was an equally excellent dish, with tender chicken and a delicious cream sauce. There was a light touch of red pepper permeating the sauce, and the sauce wasn't overly heavy. The ravioli was cooked nicely al dente, and both our dishes arrived hot. The portions were substantial, and there were plenty of take-home leftovers. Service was excellent throughout the meal, Anna was our waitress, she was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We'll be back and look forward to trying some of the other tasty sounding dishes. I have my eye on the Capone ($25.95), chicken parmigiana layered with meatballs & sliced cherry peppers, topped with eggplant, cheese & home-made tomato sauce. Kudos to the La Scala team for an excellent dinner.

We ordered the cod, mashed potatoes & broccoli. It was delicious . Server was good, she was in our table making sure we were having a god time. The restaurant is a cozy place. I do like it. We have been a few time there.

Veal Marshala

Overall 4 stars because of the service we received at the bar from Bryana where we ate. What made us try LaScala was because when we called on the road coming home from Maine for the weekend, the owner Dave answered the phone and was so very friendly, so we picked LaScala over the other Italian restaurants in Worcester. The food we had was good but my wife and I both talked about trying other things the next time. I started off with the Meatball appetizer which came with delicious garlic bread. My wife started off with the Caprese Salad which she said was fantastic. I had the Veal Marasala which was good. My wife had the Eggplant Parm. Again, we had a such wonderful service by Bryana we will definitely come back to try it. Next time I will try the Steak Tips which she highly recommended.

Steak & Cheese Egg Rolls

I don't know where to begin.... I made a reservation for 3 at 5:30. We ordered an appetizer of the steak and cheese egg rolls... they were ok..... at 6:00 we were asked what we wanted for dinner. Service was painfully slow. My carbonara had zero flavor. After a couple bites I was done. The other 2 meals were veal piccata and chicken ala vodka. They were ok. I was very much looking forward to this meal and I was completely underwhelmed!

Pros: Cozy, British pub style atmosphere; interesting small plates, not too expensive…read more Cons: gets extremely crowded in the evenings; very loud when crowded; staff is snobbish I've been here a few times, and my most enjoyable experiences were during lunch. If you can sit at the bar or in one of the 2 tables by the window, you'll get excellent service. The charcuterie board is great, and the drink selection is also pretty good. However, the last time we came here, it was the middle of the afternoon on Valentine's day. I'm from Boston and Cape Cod and my partner is European; we look like it and we act like it. Upon a brief interaction with the hostess, we both felt spoken down to: "YOU'RE trying to come in on Valentine's day? Without a reservation?" This, coming from someone with a Worcester accent who was dressed like a boy going to church choir. We were shooed away into the dining area: "I guess you could stand over there and look at the menu". It's about 330 in the afternoon- most tables are completely empty. Then a different staff member, also with a working class accent, says "I need you to clear out of this walkway because this is for staff only", despite the fact that no staff were walking there and we had been standing there about 20-30 seconds. We left without saying anything as the hostess tried to say something to us. If you want to feel spoken down to, in the working class city of Worcester no less, come here. Alternately, if you're feeling aggressive and want to squeeze your way in to sit touching shoulder to shoulder, come here. The time before this, the hostess was a soft-spoken woman who mumbled a lot; we had to elbow people out of the way at the middle bar section, which is where she directed us. Maybe in another year I'll want to come back for lunch only. Honestly, I'd rather drive back to Boston if I'm going to be treated snobbishly.

We had an outstanding experience at 110 Grill and will absolutely be back…read more First off, a huge shoutout to our server, Jeff. He was friendly, personable, and really made the night enjoyable. He had the menu completely dialed in, gave great recommendations for sides, and kept things light with conversation and humor throughout dinner. That level of service really elevates the whole experience. We also have to recognize the cook, also named Jeff, because the food was phenomenal across the board. My son ordered the New York strip steak, and it was hands down the best steak he's ever had. My daughter had shrimp and tried some of the steak as well and loved both. My wife ordered the baked cod--it was incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly. She actually couldn't finish it, not because it wasn't amazing, but because she filled up on the appetizer and was genuinely disappointed she couldn't keep going. I had the hot honey chicken sandwich, and it was fantastic--great balance of heat and flavor. For an appetizer, we tried the BBQ chicken nachos. Definitely something different for us, but we couldn't stop eating them--they were that good. The ambiance was exactly what you want: comfortable, relaxed, and not over the top. Between the incredible food, top-notch service, and overall atmosphere, this was a 5-star experience all around. Highly recommend.

The kitchen is open to the dining room, nice, clean open.. but then the cooking team has an audience in the dining room. I don't think they know? I certainly appreciate 110 Grill being open later than most, but it puts a bummer on dinner to hear how much they didn't want to be working, got screwed with that shift, or found their stations in disarray, whatever. I don't let my kids use that much foul language at the dinner table, but here we had to just kind of pretend we weren't dining to a chorus of f-bombs and excrement. Maybe it's usually busier/louder in the dining room and doesn't reverberate through? I'm telling you it was weird, man. There was some humorous irony to the excellent front of the house. Friendly, cheerful, professional, and helpful. For all the grumbling, the food came out of the kitchen just fine. Cuban sandwich was tasty, but could have used some kind of sauce or moist anything.

Friends ordered the salmon and mushroom ravioli and both really enjoyed their meals. Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Not much to look at from outside nestled in a tight residential neighborhood with limited street parking but complimentary valet service. Going inside of the restaurant ,however, the space is much more upscale and very nice. Prices were what I would expect for an upscale menu of this quality with most entrees between $25 and $40. I look forward to returning!

Mare E Monti - Exceptional Authentic Italian & Seafood Pasta Spot in Worcester, MA…read more Mare E Monti is an exceptional Italian gem -- probably home to the best seafood pasta I've ever had. I was in town ahead of a half marathon near Hampton Beach on Sunday. After a long drive and a surprise call that my extended family was touring the East Coast nearby, we decided to meet halfway -- and Worcester made perfect sense. I booked a table for eight at 8 PM on Saturday. We miscounted our party, which led to about a 45-minute wait, but honestly, that just gave us more time to catch up. The interior strikes a lovely balance -- rustic yet modern, cozy yet romantic, and unmistakably Italian in feel. Starters We kicked off with two plates of Calamari Fritti -- classic native calamari, lightly fried and tossed with cherry peppers and a delicate butter sauce. Absolutely delicious; I had to restrain myself from finishing the whole plate. Complimentary garlic bread with olive oil was also served, and I stopped myself at 2-3 slices to save room for the race-fueling carbs to come. For salad, I chose the Insalata Casalinga -- crisp field greens, grape tomatoes, julienne carrots, cucumbers, red onion, and imported olives in a light vinaigrette. Simple, fresh, and highly recommended. The Main Event The real reason I chose Mare E Monti was simple: carb loading. I went with the Pasta con Cozze e Fagioli -- sautéed mussels in a garlic white wine sauce with diced tomatoes and cannellini beans, tossed with linguine. It was everything I'd hoped for: flavorful yet light, satisfying without being heavy. The mussels were tender, the beans added substance, and the pasta was perfectly cooked. Others at the table tried the Ravioli di Aragosta (lobster ravioli) on my recommendation. I snagged a bite -- and it was heavenly. Rich, delicate, and beautifully balanced. Final Thoughts Dinner here was the perfect pre-race meal -- nourishing without weighing me down. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the service attentive, and the food consistently excellent. Even parking was simple; I found easy street parking just around the corner (though valet is also available). Oh, and the next morning? I ran a personal best in my half marathon -- just over 1 hour and 20 minutes. I'd like to think the perfect plate of pasta helped fuel that finish. All in all, Mare E Monti is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Italian cuisine and standout seafood pasta in the Worcester area. I'll absolutely be back next time I'm in Massachusetts.
