I told my friend I wished my masseuse could have left the stones on my body after being worked on with them. She told me that her masseuse left it on her. So naturally, I felt like a VIP. I took a nice, warm shower in the super-clean shower stalls. Afterwards, I soaked in the hot tub for about 10-15 minutes, as I was accompanied -- the whole entire time -- by a lovely woman who "was assigned to me" to make sure my entire stay was extraordinary. (By the way, my attendant regularly served me cups of tea. . . talk about personalized client service!) So, from the in-floor hot tub, I went into the steam sauna; I could've chosen to walk into the dry sauna, but I just didn't feel like it. Once again, I had the whole sauna room to myself! I loved that! Then, I was directed to go to the Quiet Room to relax and meditate for 15-20 minutes before my full-body scrub (which included a deep soak in a wooden tub), and full-body massage. I HAD A FANTASTIC TIME. I stayed for a little over three hours!!! Ann Karen Day Spa was simply a beautiful place. It was tastefully decorated. Every attendant was so friendly. The Himalayan salt room is the only shared area. The interior is well maintained, although it feels a bit outdated. the cleaning staff was attentive and kept the spa clean. I arrived 45 minutes before my massage so I could use the Himalayan salt room and sauna, and take a shower before my 60-minute massage. Overall, my experience was good. They charge $50 for a day pass. I would love to go back and use the spa again sometime in the future.

I spend long hours working in front of a computer, and I have also been involved in several car accidents in the past, so I constantly deal with shoulder pain and stiffness. Whenever I come here, I can feel the tension in my shoulders loosening up, which is why I keep coming back. Their Package A includes a foot massage and a full-body massage for one hour. It costs only $30, and I usually leave a $10 tip. Package B includes the same foot massage and full-body massage plus complimentary hot stones. That package costs $40 before tip. Besides Lei, both Tiger and Sam are excellent massage therapists as well. I usually request Lei every time, but yesterday he was not available during our appointment time, so I received a message from Tiger for the first time. Tiger tends to use stronger pressure, but he did a good job, too. My friend usually requests Tiger, but since I was with Tiger yesterday, my friend was treated by Sam instead. According to my friend, Sam is also an excellent massage therapist. I later heard that Sam is actually the owner of the spa. During my friend's massage, Sam was answering reservation calls while working, which made the room a little noisy. Normally there is a lady at the front desk who handles appointments. I believe she is Chinese, and she speaks excellent English, as well. Since she had not arrived for work yet, Sam was taking calls himself while giving my friend a massage. That was probably the only downside of our visit. Other than that, I really appreciate that they have not raised their prices despite the rising cost of everything these days. I have recommended this spa to my family, my mom's friends, and many members of the Korean singles social group that I organize. They also offer a loyalty stamp card. You receive one stamp per visit, and after collecting 10 stamps, you can enjoy a complimentary massage. But I totally see what she meant after my visit) PROS: Friendly staff who was super helpful in accommodating my schedule despite a last minute change on my end. I appreciate that! Also, long facial massage. Unfortunately, that's... kind of it for the pros. CONS: Like Tanya said, the massage was pretty lame. It was more perfunctory rubbing rather than thoughtful massaging. My thoughts usually wander during this relaxing part of a facial, but here, I couldn't help but notice the movements were REALLY repetitive. It was like 3-4 different moves, repeated about 20x. So yes, long massage, but oddly lazy and with virtually no pressure :/ The lotion used did not feel luxurious; it felt like those thin generic hotel ones, and she didn't use enough, so a lot of it was her hands rubbing my face dry. It all just felt so perfunctory (wow, a rare incidence where I got to use an SAT word I learned many years ago!). Same with the post-massage steps. She blew through everything as quickly as possible, to get to the mask part where she could put it on then leave for a really long time. This brings me to the second con: poor noise control. This was kind of ridiculous, but I've never had an esthetician be so oblivious to the noise she's making. There was no music, so she used her phone to play whatever music she found on YouTube (I assume it's YT b/c she had to skip a few ads). That means when she was gone from the room (e.g. during the mask part), she took the phone with her. AND I could hear her movements all over the spa. This included loud, stomping footsteps, banging doors, objects being noisily dumped and moved around. Like, she wasn't even TRYING to be quiet. It felt like someone was packing and moving cinder blocks 10 feet away from me. Speaking of phone, it was placed next to my head while she worked on me, and I could hear AND feel it buzz every 5 seconds. Seriously, who does that? The door BADLY needed some oil on its hinges! It creaked way too loudly for a space that's meant to be calming. I know this sounds like nitpicking, but when you're lying on a bed for 90minutes, and someone is opening and closing the door every 5 minutes, five feet away from your head, it's really noticeable. I try to be an easy, understanding customer, but the poor quality, laziness, and thoughtlessness of this place was pretty mind-blowing. If I'd known, I'd have gone somewhere else. I personally agree with a previous reviewer: this was one of the worst facials I've received (and I've been to many!)
