This place is a recent discovery for me. I'd heard of it in passing and thanks to the high recommendations of fellow yelpers I decided to give it a go. I'm assuming that the Chile Verde is their specialty due to the fact that a greater portion of the menu is chile verde related. This is a good thing. The Chile Verde sauce was flavorful and just a hint creamy. The meat just fell apart in your mouth. I do refrain from giving it all five stars because the second time I tried it out the Chile Verde, while being tasty was not as good as it had been the first time. We have been looking for a new spot for Mexican and this one makes the ticket. We have a family of 4 and we only paid about $32 to have dinner. Their chips and salsa are authentic with just the right amount of kick. For dinner, my husband had a combo plate: 2 ground beef enchiladas that he woofed down quick along with the delicious rice and beans. He is very hard to please when it comes to Mexican food so I was so glad that he loved it. I also enjoyed a combo plate: 2 cheese enchiladas(so big I could only finish one, great leftovers) with rice and beans. Our 3 and 6 year olds are little birds, so they share plates. They shared the kid's bean and cheese burrito with rice and beans. They licked the plate clean! Not to mention their service is great and friendly. So our family gives this little spot a top rating. read more

This is a great little place is Oildale. The food is always good and consistent. It is nothing fancy just good food. I have been frequenting this place for at least 20 years. This was a family owned place that has changed hands, however the new owners were very smart and did NOT change the recipe for their famous enchilada sauce and salsa! We stopped here on the way from the Sequoia National Park to Santa Barbara. The enchiladas were amazing. Seriously, the best meal we had during our road trip. Just tried out this little gem for the 1st and I can't believe we waited so long before eating here. The food was wonderful. There wasn't a wait when we went but we went on a week day. The staff that we encounter were all very nice and attentive. Our food make it to our table in record time and did I mention the food was delicious! We will be back. I have eaten here a couple of times. This restaurant is in an old part of Oildale. The parking is right in front, I think you could find parking on the side streets if they were too busy. Both times I went was between 6 and 7 on weekdays. The people are very friendly, and service is good. Myself, I did not particularly care for the standard chips and salsa. Not sure what it is, just that there is way better out there. First time I had cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. The enchiladas are very good, I really enjoyed them. Rice and beans, I don't get too excited about that but I did eat it. Second stop I tried something different- the fried chicken topped with chili verde. Another really good dish, with homemade flour tortillas. Food came out fast and iced tea was refilled before it was empty. I hesitate to add more stars as both times I sat in the booth in the corner to the left as you walk in the door. There is a round window that almost looks like a wagon wheel. As I sat and looked out over Chester, I noticed how filthy that glass was and there was at all times six or more flies in the glass. As I looked at the flies in front of me and the health department "A" by the door, I just wondered if the glass was full of flies when the inspection took place. And I hoped that it was not. Sorry, but the flies grossed me out. I was ready to get a to go box and take the food with me. But the flies did not try to eat with me. read more

This is my go to Mexican food place! Everything is good but my favorite is the chili Verde fried chicken. It's 3 crispy fried white meat boneless chicken breast smothered in either red or green chili Verde with a side of rice and beans, I can't ever finish it all its a lot of food. Hands down-best Mexican RESTAURANT in town! I have been coming here since a child and I am glad it has stayed the same despite the original owner selling it a few years back. The chips and salsa are so wonderful, nothing else compares! The salsa is just so unique, I can't have enough! I have tried everything off the original menu (not the current menu since a lot of things have been added with the ownership change). I have never had a bad meal! Their chile relleno sauce is to die for and my husband and I always ask for a side to put over our rice. The Kip Enchiladas are covered with the chile relleno sauce and the chicken is very flavorful in the enchiladas. I always get a chile verde burrito- the chile verde is PERFECT! Not too much fat, very flavorful, nice portion- I just love it. The enchilada sauce is also very tasty- they really know how to make sauces. The portion size is large enough to take half of your food home for the next day which is nice. And the prices are still reasonable. We love going because of the service. Most of the original waitresses still work and they almost become a part of your family. Everything you need is addressed promptly. They are very friendly and always know what you like to drink which is a nice touch. Although I don't really know the new owner (she has actually been the owner for a few years), she is always working and very nice. She has really continued the legacy of the restaurant and we love that about it! If you have never eaten here, you HAVE TO TRY IT! You will never find a better restaurant in Bakersfield! read more

While the service was alright and the eatery was somewhat clean, the food that what we ordered was sub standard. I ordered #21 chili Verde burrito & chili rellano. Ugh!! I first took a bite of the chili Verde burrito, as this is one of my VERY favorite Mexican foods, the first and final taste to hit my tongue was......wait for it.......yep, you guessed it, cornstarch. Oh Ya.....good ole corn CORNSTARCH! Ugh...pst..pst. I decided my taste buds were off & took another bite. Yep, cornstarch for sure. But hey, at least they added enough food color to make it green, neon green. My rellano, well, I've never had one with "brownish-gray" gravy on it, but I took not one, but two bites of this favorite of mine and heck yes, I was done. My partner ordered the shrimp fajita salad, or should I say, the frozen shrimp and hot, soggy lettuce salad. Alright, enough said. But......although we have been here a few times now, & kept hoping it would get better, I absolutely advise going across the street to what looks like "a hole in the wall". This has been one of my family's favorite restaurant's for many years, like maybe 20 years. We used to also go to the other location near Union and Truxton. Although we moved away from Bakersfield several years ago, when we are back in the area this is usually one of the first places we think of visiting. Staff are friendly and one waitress even recognized my dad and remembered his usual order even though he's been away for two years. I usually get the guacamole and the bean and cheese burrito with sides of rice and beans. Simple, but so good. read more
