La Tapatia is one of my all time favorite Mexican restaurants in Bakersfield, their food has always been extremely delicious, and fairly priced. The carne asada tacos are KILLER, and especially their Red Chili Verde fried chicken. You can't go wrong when you order that. The service there is always perfect. Those ladies are some of the hardest working servers I have ever seen. They always stay on top of checking on you to make sure everything is good, and ask if you need anything else, and ALWAYS get you with a refill. The location is a little sketchy because of all the tweakers in the heart of Oildale, but man! Is it worth it to eat there. They always say Mexican food is always better in the hood, and they aren't wrong. DONT SLEEP ON LA TAPATIA! 10/10 recommend to everyone read more

Found this recommendation off Reddit. Everyone was saying to come here and that this was a little gem. So we figured why not. We roll in. The area is not the greatest and parking is difficult. Only real spots are in front on the curb. Those were all taken so we parked a block up. This was a good sign for the business. When we walked in, we were greeted with a warm greeting and seated right away. They had a good selection of food to choose from. We had drinks at our table rather quickly. We all ordered and enjoyed some chips and delicious salsa while waiting. Food arrived nice and hot. The table was silent throughout the meal, which is a good sign because we were all eating. Food was super flavorful and tasty. The fajitas were amazing. Kids loved their meals. My mom was shocked on how big the "street" style tacos were. We all ate until we were full and we had a bunch to take home. All in all, this place was amazing. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The food was delicious. Service was great. I travel often and this place always feels like home even though I live 1500+miles away in Nebraska. Bakersfield is where I grew up and every time I stop I visit the server who is now the chef. He absolutely has a heart of gold and I will always come back as LONG as he is here. I have had servers who have not been the same but at the end of the day, I go back and shake the hands of the chefs because I am a chef and know what they're bringing to the table. Try the spicy Chile' Verde Chicken and the chorizo nachos they're amazing!!!. I can't wait to be home at Christmas to try it again. You don't come to this place because you happened to drive by. You have to have heard from someone, or in my case it's my wife's grandmother's go-to spot. We have to call ahead to basically let them know we'll have 30 people. Annually, we do this. Parking is curbside, and the staff is extremely friendly and works hard. Bomb enchiladas!! I remember coming here with my mom years ago, and the food was great then too. Now I come here with my daughter and the food and service is always great! Today I had the #27, tostada (with whatever meat you want), and another item of your choice. I had the beef tostada with cheese enchilada. Their cheese enchiladas are one of the best in Bako., along with their ground beef they use for their tacos and tostadas. I tried a bite of my daughter's relleno, it was good, just need to cook the egg a little longer. I have to mention that their chips and sals, rice, and beans are really good too. read more

Been a regular here for the menudo for a couple of years. Today was the first day that the service was HORRIBLE. My family placed an order in which it took well over 30 mins to get. I noticed other tables getting their food before us. We had been seated way before the others had been seated and should have received our order quicker. Our family has been coming here for over thirty years. The food has that home style Mexican American taste. The menu has slightly expanded over the years but each addition is great. The servers are extended family to the regulars and welcoming to the newcomers. It's a small business so at times there's a wait for a table, but it's worth the wait. Interesting place and location. We found parking out front near the guy singing to himself. Went in and were seated immediately. Ordered drinks and got chips and salsa. Iced tea is fresh and strong. Yum! Chips were nothing special. Salsa was spicy! I liked that, but it was too soupy. I ordered the Ka Yobi from the specials menu. Sounded interesting...chile verde burrito in a corn tortilla with jalapeños, lettuce, onions and cheese topped with relleno sauce. My friend did her usual...taco, cheese enchilada, rice and beans. Our order was ready pretty quickly. My burrito was tasty. A lot of different flavors were mingling together. I enjoyed it. My friend loved the red sauce on her enchilada. We ate. Sat and chatted. Mexican food in Oildale? Absolutely! Who would have thought! I first came with coworkers about six years ago. A year later I met my now husband and it was one of his family's favorite Mexican restaurants. Needless to say we eat here at least twice a year. I've had their combos, enchilada and taco with a side of rice and beans. My favorite for the past few years has been their cheese enchiladas in their white sauce. I can be a creature of habit with food I really love, this dish makes it on my must have list when I'm craving Mexican comfort food. I called in a pick up order and was told it's a 30 minute wait. Showed up 35 minutes later and had to stand in the middle of an isle next to people eating for an extra 10 minutes. Absolutely packed house where people were waiting outside in the rain. Paid $40 for a cheese enchiladas combo, 1 asada quesadilla and 2 tacos. No chips or salsa included. Sit to eat and the enchiladas are SATURATED. In grease that's puddled on top of the cheese and pocketed in the red sauce. The quesadilla was floating on grease as well. The tacos were nice. Secret delicious Mexican food that's been in Bakersfield for over 25 years in... *gasp* Oildale? Yes! La Tapatia has a steady stream of regular customers. You can tell from their friendly chit-chat with the wait-staff. The service is impeccable and super fast. If you're looking for a place to get in and out in under an hour (you know, if you have a picky time sensitive boss) this is definitely the best stop. But yes, Oildale. North Chester of all places, too! It's been here for ages, too, which makes it one of those classic Mexican food restaurants that Bakersfieldians adore. Again, it's probably more along the lines of "Bakersfield Mexican" than classic Mexican food. Similarly to "Bakersfield Basque" -- it's just something us locals have grown to appreciate as nostalgic and comforting. I ordered the most gigantic burrito that has ever been born - the Fou. Why is it called the Fou? That, I will never know. But the Fou is definitely not made for the light of heart or the small of stomachs. It can be shared, of course, but then what's the fun in that. The BF ordered the Camarones a la diabla, and let me tell you. Adding that diabla sauce to the top of the Fou burrito was like adding something magical. I'm not sure if they would do this without actually buying both - but gosh darn it, I'll be asking next time. It was DELICIOUS. The burrito was fine on its own, but it definitely needed a kick of spice and the diabla was definitely what did it. La Tapatia is an Oildale stable. A little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant with warm, friendly service and good cheap food. They have the typical menu items that most Mexican restaurants have. There is nothing that I have tasted that stands out but it's good food nonetheless. I get the stereotype for Oildale and how some may be skeptical about eating in the area but La Tapatia is pretty clean. The restaurant is small and parking is limited. Like most restaurants in Oildale, this establishment gets a lot of regulars. I usually get the same thing when I come here. The combo with cheese enchilada, and chicken taco, Chile verde burrito. The chicken is flavorful and they give you a pretty good amount in the taco. The Chile verde is so-so. I love spicy Chile verde but this is lacking spice unfortunately. read more
